Chapter 8: The Light Within: A New Dawn
The morning after the farewell, Anim woke up feeling… strange. Not the usual tiredness from pulling all-nighters or the weight of expectations crushing her chest. No, this was different. She felt light—not just in the metaphorical sense but physically.
When she tried to sit up, she almost floated off her bed. "Oh great," she muttered. "I've finally lost my mind."
She reached for her phone, but it slipped right through her fingers, landing on the floor with a loud thud. Panic set in. Was she a ghost? Had she actually disappeared? Just yesterday, she had been drowning in emotions, and today… she was barely touching the ground.
"This is either a dream or I need therapy," she whispered.
Just then, her brother barged into her room. "Mom said—" He froze, eyes widening. "What the—"
Anim panicked and slammed herself onto the bed, pretending to be normal. "What?" she asked, trying to sound casual.
He squinted. "Did you just… float?"
"Nope," she lied, throwing a pillow at him.
He caught it but kept staring at her suspiciously. "You sure? Because for a second, I thought you—"
"I'm fine! Go away!"
He shrugged and left, but Anim knew this wasn't over. If she wasn't careful, she'd end up as some government experiment.
The Light Choice
That whole day, Anim tried to act normal, but how could she? She could feel the difference in her body, in her heart. It was like something inside her had let go of the pressure, the weight of being the perfect student, the perfect daughter, the perfect friend. Maybe that was what made her light.
And then it hit her.
For the first time in years, she didn't feel trapped. She didn't feel like she was suffocating under expectations. She had spent so long trying to be what everyone else wanted that she had forgotten who she actually was. But now? Now she had a choice.
She grabbed her notebook and made a list:
*Find out if I'm a superhero or just losing it.
*Tell Ayera before she thinks I've been abducted by aliens.
*Do something crazy for once.
*Finally, tell my parents what I actually want in life.
The last one made her pause. That was the hardest, wasn't it? Facing the people she loved, the ones she didn't want to disappoint. But wasn't that the whole point? She had spent her life being who they wanted. Maybe it was time to be who she wanted.
The Light Moment
The next day, she met Ayera at their usual spot—the corner café with terrible coffee but great company. Ayera took one look at her and frowned. "You look different."
Anim smirked. "I am different."
"Did you finally get over your crush on that senior?"
"What? No! And that's not the point!" Anim huffed. "I think I've… changed. Like, literally. I feel lighter. Freer."
Ayera raised an eyebrow. "Did you start meditating or something?"
"No! Well, kind of. But more like… I let go. Of everything. The pressure, the expectations. I just… I don't care anymore."
Ayera sipped her coffee. "And this led to you floating?"
Anim groaned. "I knew you wouldn't believe me."
Ayera chuckled. "I believe you. Because you seem happier." She paused. "What now?"
Anim took a deep breath. "Now? I live. For me."
Ayera grinned. "About time."
The Light Future
That night, Anim sat on her rooftop again, but this time, she wasn't crying. She was laughing. Laughing at the absurdity of everything—the stress, the expectations, the fear that had kept her chained for so long.
Maybe she wasn't meant to be light in the supernatural sense. Maybe she had just learned to let go. And that? That was the real superpower.
With a smile, she whispered to the stars, "I am here. And I am enough."
