Chapter 260: Team Rocket’s Second-in-Command! [260] [30 PS]
Emboar sidestepped, narrowly avoiding Dragon Pulse.
Planting its feet firmly, flames erupted around its body as it charged toward Dragonite with a Flame Charge.
"Jun's Emboar has decided to counterattack after dodging Dragon Pulse. But does Jun really think Emboar can go toe-to-toe with Dragonite?" The commentator's rapid-fire analysis filled the arena, his words spilling out as quickly as a machine gun.
By the time he finished speaking, Emboar had barely made it halfway across the battlefield.
The audience, momentarily distracted by the commentator's speed, snapped back to the action on the field.
Emboar's fiery charge exuded an imposing energy that seemed almost equal to Dragonite's, at least to the untrained eye.
However, for Dragonite—having recently battled Malva, Kalos' Fire-type Elite Four member—Emboar's attack fell significantly short in comparison.
Of course, underestimating an opponent was a mistake Luo Yuan never allowed.
Despite recognizing Emboar's weaknesses, Dragonite prepared to strike with full power.
It shifted slightly, stepped back, and coiled its arm briefly before throwing a devastating punch just as Emboar entered striking range.
"Hyper Punch!"
Whoosh!
The punch tore through the air, producing a sharp, whistling sound.
Though "Hyper Punch" was merely a name for its immense force, in that moment, Dragonite's punch truly looked as if it carried the weight of a million tons.
Seeing the incoming blow, Emboar instinctively crossed its sturdy arms in front of itself for defense.
Boom!
The punch landed squarely.
Thud!
The impact reverberated like a drumbeat, sending Emboar skidding backward along the ground, carving two deep trenches into the battlefield.
"Whoa! That was a misstep from Jun—Emboar has been completely overpowered in a head-on clash with Dragonite!"
"With the gap in strength so apparent, things are looking grim for Emboar."
The commentator's blunt remarks grated on Jun's nerves, but he quickly refocused.
After confirming Emboar could still stand, he gave his next command:
"Emboar, go for evasive attacks—use Heat Wave!"
Adjusting tactics, Jun aimed to pressure Dragonite with Heat Wave, hoping the fiery attack might leave it burned.
But Dragonite and Luo Yuan, who had fought through countless battles to reach the semifinals, were unfazed.
With a mighty flap of its wings, Dragonite lifted itself skyward, completely avoiding the Heat Wave.
Before Jun could decide whether to use Flamethrower or Overheat to force Dragonite down, the battlefield took an unexpected turn.
Dragonite tilted its head back and roared skyward.
A golden beam of energy erupted from its mouth, shooting straight into the clouds.
"What's this...?"
The audience, bracing for a physical clash, was caught off guard.
Their confusion deepened when the golden column halted mid-air before exploding outward like a firework, sending golden streaks scattering in all directions.
Sharp-eyed spectators noticed what appeared to be meteors wrapped in golden energy falling from the sky.
"It's Draco Meteor!"
Someone in the crowd recognized the attack, one of the most powerful Dragon-type moves, known for its devastating strength and wide area of effect.
Despite its power, Draco Meteor's steep Special Attack reduction made it a move typically reserved for finishing blows.
To use it so early in the battle was rare, to say the least.
But the crowd's focus quickly shifted to a more pressing concern—would the meteors strike outside the battlefield?
"Should we intervene?" Bruno asked from the VIP section, watching the descending meteors.
Lance frowned for a moment, assessing the situation, before relaxing and shaking his head.
"No need. Luo Yuan clearly has this under control."
Just as Lance finished speaking, the meteors rained down with deafening roars.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Explosions erupted across the battlefield as the meteors struck.
Emboar did its best to dodge the falling projectiles, but its bulky frame hindered its movements.
After narrowly avoiding two meteors, it failed to escape a third, which struck it squarely.
Emboar stumbled, dazed by the impact, but before it could recover, Dragonite directed the rest of the meteors in a concentrated assault.
Forced to act quickly, Emboar barely managed to erect a Protect shield before being swallowed by the relentless barrage of meteors.
"Emboar!" Jun shouted.
But amidst the cacophony of explosions, his voice was drowned out.
Through the thick smoke, the faint outline of Emboar's Protect shield flickered, struggling to withstand the onslaught.
"Emboar has been hit by Draco Meteor! Although it managed to use Protect at the last moment, can it hold on?" the commentator's excited commentary kept the audience riveted.
Some keen observers noted that despite the ferocity of the attack, none of the meteors had strayed beyond the battlefield.
The judges, initially retreating out of caution, were dumbfounded by Dragonite's precision.
"What extraordinary control," Bruno remarked.
As a Fighting-type specialist, Bruno understood the difficulty of achieving such precise control over a move while maintaining its full power.
"Your thoughts, Lance?" Bruno asked, turning to the Champion.
Lance, whose own Dragonite was the gold standard, admitted, "Its control is remarkable. Even my Dragonite couldn't match this level of finesse."
He watched Luo Yuan with growing interest, his expectations continually exceeded.
Of course, what neither Lance nor Bruno knew was that Dragonite's precision was the result of decades of training. Having lived an isolated life on its island, it had honed its skills out of sheer boredom.
As the final meteor fell, the battlefield was left in ruins, with debris scattered everywhere.
In the center of the devastation, Emboar lay motionless, battered and defeated.
"Emboar is unable to battle! Dragonite wins!" the referee declared.
