Chapter 45 - Rules and the Radio
Upon seeing this sentence, He Gu felt a jolt in his heart and immediately sat upright.
Could this be a note left by the previous employee who held this position?
Moreover, it seemed like he had left warnings for his successor in the note!
He Gu continued reading:
【First, I must remind you that if you get a chance, you must flee! Escaping from this hellish place as soon as possible is your only survival path!
Of course, I understand that escaping is not so easy. If you recklessly run away, they will definitely catch you, definitely!
So, I need to remind you, don’t be rash, wait for the opportunity.
Hahaha… the sunlight tonight is particularly dazzling, that cat’s wings are on fire…】
……
Upon reading this, He Gu furrowed his brows.
The first few sentences of the note, albeit disjointed, were coherent. However, the later part turned into a bunch of nonsensical phrases.
Sunlight dazzling at night?
A cat’s wings on fire?
What on earth was all this about?
The following pages were full of illogical gibberish. Some sentences were even incoherent, utterly uncomprehensible.
Yet, looking at these ludicrous sentences, He Gu felt a bizarre chill creeping up his spine.
It wasn’t until flipping through seven or eight pages that He Gu found another passage with coherent sentences:
【It’s coming, they’re all coming!
Be careful of the places you can’t see!
Beware of the Black Cat, beware of those boxes, beware of anyone who is alone with you!
And the transport tunnel at the Goods Inlet! It’s there! I saw it!
That pigeon actually chopped off its own finger… Hahaha… How interesting…】
……
Following this was another bout of incoherent babbling, and the handwriting became more and more distorted.
Frowning, He Gu continued flipping through the notebook.
Just then, He Gu suddenly noticed that the radio, which had been playing music just a moment ago, had somehow gone silent.
“Shhh… Zzzz…”
A chaotic electrical noise came from the radio, making He Gu somewhat irritable.
Just as He Gu was about to try tuning the radio, a song suddenly started playing again.
However, the song only played for a few seconds before it was interrupted by more electrical noise.
A few seconds later, a man’s voice came from the radio: “424, do you copy? 424, do you copy?”
Hearing this, He Gu was slightly taken aback. Had there been a frequency cross?
The voice from the radio continued for a while, soon to be drowned out by the unpleasant electrical noise.
Then the channel returned to normal, playing music again.
However, this time, the music seemed to be intermingled with a woman’s sobbing, which was quite unsettling.
He Gu didn’t pay too much mind to it. The main purpose of playing the radio was just to have some noise.
Shifting his gaze away from the radio, He Gu continued to flip through the notebook in his hands.
The content became more and more chaotic as he went on. By the last few pages, it was no longer text but a series of abstract doodles.
He Gu quickly lost his patience and carelessly flipped to the last page.
To his surprise, there were words on this last page:
【I don’t know how much longer I can live, or even how much longer I can stay sane… Regrettably, I never found an opportunity to escape. Instead, due to my impulsiveness, I ended up being watched…
It’s been watching me all along. I have no chance to escape, and I might not survive tonight…
While I’m still lucid, I want to leave something behind, hoping to help the next person.
If anyone sees these words, please remember, my number is 424.
Please remember these rules that follow!
1. Never stick your head into the Delivery Port; (Instant death)
2. Never peek into the box through the cracks;
3. If you hear someone speaking to you from inside the box, never respond; (Instant death)
4. If a person dressed in white enters, ignore them, never make eye contact; (Instant death)
5. You can listen to the radio when you’re bored, but never tune into the fourth channel;
6. Never sign your real name on any document;
7. No one is singing at night, no one is singing, no one is singing!
…
Hidden Message: In the place you dare not look, the truth may be watching you.
…
After reading this, a loud “bang” resounded in He Gu’s head.
New rules!
These rules actually appeared in front of him in this form!
And the owner of this notebook, said his number was 424?
Wasn’t that the number that was being called out when the radio was changing channels earlier?
Thinking of this, He Gu’s scalp tingled.
The radio!
The 5th rule he just saw said that he can listen to the radio, but never tune into the 4th channel!
He Gu had been listening to the 4th channel for over ten minutes!
Thinking of this, He Gu’s back turned cold, and he hurriedly reached out to turn off the radio.
However, perhaps because he was too nervous, He Gu failed to switch it off, instead accidentally knocking the radio off the table.
Whether it was broken or the battery was dislodged upon impact, the music from the radio stopped the moment it hit the ground.
Just as He Gu was about to breathe a sigh of relief, he suddenly realized that although the music had stopped, the faint crying sound that had been mixed in with it hadn’t!
That crying sound wasn’t coming from the radio!
In that instant, He Gu felt goosebumps all over his body.
He quickly stood up from his chair and looked around nervously.
The crying was faint, as if it was coming from a corner of this warehouse!
He Gu’s scalp tingled, he held his breath and listened closely.
Soon, He Gu figured it out.
That faint crying sound, was coming from the pile of wooden boxes in the corner!
Was there someone in there?!
For a moment, He Gu was somewhat stunned, standing by the table not knowing what to do.
Just as He Gu took out his intercom to call his Supervisor, the radio that had fallen on the ground suddenly came back on.
“Shhh…zzz…”
The sudden sound of electricity made He Gu jump.
Then, the man’s voice came from the radio again: “424, it’s in your warehouse! Hold the door, we’re on our way!”
“424, hold the door! We can’t let it escape!”
…
These sudden two sentences left He Gu stunned.
Was this simply a case of radio interference picking up a signal from some intercom, or something else?
But based on what He Gu just saw in the notebook, it’s highly likely that 424 is no longer around, right?!
Or could it be that after the owner of that notebook, someone else was assigned the number 424?
“Zzz…beep—”
Without giving He Gu much time to think, the radio suddenly emitted a series of extremely harsh electrical noises.
He Gu quickly went forward to pick up the radio and attempted to turn it off.
However, the radio seemed to have been broken when it fell, regardless of whether He Gu tried to switch it off or change the channel, that piercing noise continued.
The noise was so loud it made He Gu’s eardrums throb, and even caused him to feel a bit nauseous.
At the same time, it seemed like something in the pile of goods was being agitated by this noise.
Bang, bang, bang!
The wooden box closest to He Gu suddenly began to shake violently, as if something inside was struggling to get out!
