Chapter 12 - When Did I Die?
Hearing what Professor Fang said, He Gu was totally confused.
What prank?
What dead person?
This sounded…so bizarre!
Before He Gu could think more, Professor Fang had already hung up the phone again.
Not willing to give up, He Gu called back right away.
A few seconds later, He Gu heard Professor Fang’s angry voice through the receiver: “What exactly are you trying to do?”
He Gu smiled wryly: “Professor Fang, although I don’t understand what you mean, I really am He Gu.”
The phone was silent for a few seconds, then Professor Fang said in a deep voice: “Student, I don’t know what your purpose is for doing this, but I warn you, if you make fun of a deceased student again, I will call the police right away!”
Upon hearing this, He Gu’s heart skipped a beat: “Deceased student!? Who died!?”
Professor Fang scoffed: “Student He Gu unfortunately passed away in a car accident last week and died on site. Do you think it’s funny to impersonate him and call me?”
When He Gu heard this, his mind went blank.
What the hell!?
He himself died last week!?
How is that possible?
After being stunned for a couple seconds, He Gu hurriedly said: “Professor Fang, I…I’m not dead!”
“I haven’t left the school since last week until now, let alone encounter any car accident…You must have gotten it wrong?”
There was obvious fatigue in Professor Fang’s tone: “Student, if you picked up He Gu’s phone or SIM card, please turn it in to the teaching office.”
“If you want to continue your prank, I really will call the police.”
After saying this, Professor Fang impatiently hung up the phone again.
He Gu held his phone with a confused look.
Professor Fang’s words were frightening upon further thought!
The more He Gu thought about it, the more uneasy he felt, with chills running down his back.
After pondering for a few minutes, He Gu opened WeChat and directly video called Professor Fang.
More than ten seconds later, Professor Fang picked up the video call.
Seeing He Gu’s face on the screen, astonishment was written all over Professor Fang’s face, and a trace of horror flashed through his eyes.
“You…you…who exactly are you!”
Professor Fang was so flustered he could barely speak: “Is this…is this some new scam!”
“What exactly are you trying to do!”
He Gu smiled wryly: “Professor Fang, it’s really me, I’m not dead at all, nor was I in a car accident!”
Professor Fang’s voice trembled: “No…impossible…you can’t be He Gu…you…are you human or ghost!”
He Gu was also helpless: “Professor Fang, did you hear from others that I died, or did you see my corpse with your own eyes?”
Hearing this, Professor Fang was stunned for a moment, and blurted out: “Last week, all eight of you in the dorm were assigned to intern at Kangde Chinese Medicine Factory in the next city, and you all died in a car accident on the way there…this was the information confirmed with the school and given to me…”
Upon hearing this, He Gu was also shocked. All eight people in his dorm died!?
How is that possible?
He and Zhang Chao clearly hadn’t received the internship notice yet!
Thinking of this, He Gu tentatively said: “Professor Fang, could the information be wrong?”
“Zhang Chao and I never received an internship notice. We’ve been at school this whole time. Zhang Chao just went home yesterday on leave…”
Hearing this, Professor Fang was even more flustered: “Nonsense! Zhang Chao’s parents came to the school to make a scene over compensation a few days ago, how could he have been at school with you the whole time!?”
“Who…who exactly are you!?”
When Professor Fang said this, He Gu also panicked.
Zhang Chao wasn’t at school the past few days!?
Then who was the one who brought Xiao Ying back yesterday!?
He Gu quickly thought in his mind, and said: “Professor Fang, there must be some kind of mistake somewhere.”
“At least I can confirm that I’m still alive!”
“I’ve been in the dorm waiting for the internship notice the whole time, never leaving, so why don’t you check again?”
Hearing He Gu’s explanation, Professor Fang was also confused.
“How is that possible? You all got the notices at the same time for that dorm room!”
“You…you really are He Gu?”
Seeing Professor Fang’s hesitation on the screen, He Gu said helplessly: “Professor Fang, I really am He Gu, and I really didn’t get an internship notice or die.”
Professor Fang pondered for a moment, then said: “Then let me check the situation again…”
He then added: “If this is a prank, just wait for the police to come knocking!”
After saying this, Professor Fang hurriedly hung up the video chat.
Looking at his phone, He Gu still felt something wasn’t right.
Suddenly, He Gu seemed to think of something. He quickly went to a WeChat group called “302 Eight Buddhas”.
This was their dorm group chat.
Opening the group chat, He Gu was shocked to see that just the day before yesterday, some other dorm mates had still posted messages in the group!
Just what was going on here?
Looking at the chat records in the group, and recalling what Professor Fang just said, He Gu felt uneasy.
After hesitating for a bit, He Gu sent in the group: “Bros, you there?”
He waited a few minutes, but the group was silent.
He Gu thought for a bit, then sent a sexy girl pic in the group.
Still no reaction from the group.
After waiting another few minutes, He Gu directly sent a red envelope in the group.
No one grabbed it.
The group was dead silent.
He Gu started panicking. He directly called each dorm mate one by one.
As expected, all his dorm mate’s phones were off, including Zhang Chao’s.
Just as He Gu was feeling more and more uneasy, he suddenly heard Xiao Ying’s voice next to him: “What are you doing?”
“Making so much noise so early, annoying.”
Xiao Ying’s abrupt voice gave He Gu a fright.
Only then did he realize Xiao Ying had woken up at some point and was sitting on the bed hugging the blanket, looking at him resentfully.
Seeing Xiao Ying still not dressed, He Gu reflexively averted his gaze again, awkwardly greeting her: “You’re awake?”
Xiao Ying pouted: “Starving, got anything to eat?”
He Gu again pointed to the leftover bread and instant noodles from yesterday, and said: “The cafeteria is about to open. If you don’t want those, I can go buy breakfast for you.”
Xiao Ying immediately nodded: “Okay, I want meat!”
He Gu was helpless: “No cafeteria serves meat for breakfast right?”
“The only meat related stuff is hot dogs and meat buns, want those?”
Xiao Ying nodded: “That works.”
As they talked, He Gu glanced at his phone again, and unconsciously it was already 7:21. The cafeteria opened at 7.
Outside the window the sky was bright, only the sun hadn’t fully risen yet.
He Gu took another look at the silent group chat, shook his head and put his phone away.
He didn’t know what the situation was, he’d have to wait for news from Professor Fang’s side.
“I’m going to the cafeteria to buy breakfast. You…put your clothes on first. I’ll be right back.”
After leaving this sentence, He Gu turned and opened the dorm room door.
He first peeked out into the hallway, and seeing no one, He Gu walked out.
He quickly went downstairs, the dorm building guard was already sitting at the entrance, still wearing that red vest.
Right now the guard was reading a newspaper with reading glasses on. He Gu swiftly walked past him.
The school cafeteria was diagonally across from the dorm building. He Gu arrived at the cafeteria entrance in a few minutes.
Just as he was about to enter, He Gu suddenly noticed an A4 paper posted on the cafeteria’s glass door:
【Rule #4】
