Chapter 228: Chapter 128: The Trap

Great Wheel Wisdom King, the wrathful manifestation of Maitreya Bodhisattva, is one of the Eight Great Wisdom Kings in Esoteric Buddhism. He exists to destroy all karmic obstacles and purify the precepts through wrathful compassion.

They say, "When the Buddha grows angry, even the Four Mara submit."It refers to the fury of the vajra protectors.

At this moment, Master Yicheng burned like a living inferno—his face turning blue, fangs protruding, charging like a beast toward the Ghost Grandmother. The Great Wheel Wisdom King's divine form he summoned wielded a string of prayer beads, which it smashed down upon the ghost with golden light erupting from every impact.

The light from the divine form was highly destructive to ghostly beings. Ghost Grandmother instantly fell into a disadvantage, retreating several paces under the blows.

But soon, her claws grew longer and blackened, her eyes gleamed with murder, and she hissed coldly,

"To manifest a divine form at such a young age… let's see how long you can last!"

Master Yicheng let out a beastlike roar and charged again, still in a state of spiritual emptiness—not quite rational, driven only by righteous fury against evil.As the two fought evenly, I turned my gaze instead to the Princess Spirit (Gege) sitting inside her ornate sedan chair.

Because I was currently guarding the core of the Longxian Snake-Robe Formation, I couldn't move freely. To extract the truth I needed, I decided to invoke a higher power—Words with Legal Power (Yan Chu Fa Sui).

I sunk my breath into my dantian, gathered my Hao Ran Righteous Qi, and bellowed toward her:

"Laozi says: All under heaven know beauty as beauty, and thus ugliness arises; all know good as good, and thus evil is born.Beauty and ugliness, good and evil, are like yin and yang. You, for selfish gain, endangered others' lives—this is evil.If you walk the Buddhist path, you should revere the heavens. To defy fate is a crime the heavens will not tolerate.Tell me—who gave you this plan?"

I wasn't just speaking; I invoked Daoist scripture.I spoke on behalf of Laozi, turning his words into spiritual pressure.Though she had absorbed dragon qi and become something more than a ghost, she was still at her core a soul.

Sure enough, her body trembled. She looked up dazedly, her eyes locking onto mine, and muttered:

"It was the descendant of Tuli Ta. He taught me how to do it."

Tuli Ta?!Wasn't he the one who once taught people to consume the hearts and livers of children for immortality? My head throbbed. Why would his descendants be involved with Jiang Shiyu? What was their true aim?

Most troubling of all:Who is really behind all this?

Yicheng and Ghost Grandmother were still battling with no clear victor.I stood safe in the formation, untouchable by ghosts—But what's the use of being untouchable if we can't stop them?

I made a bold decision—I stepped out of the formation.

I picked up the snake robe, which meant the formation was no longer active. No more protection.

I approached the sedan chair, the Princess Spirit still inside.Holding the snake robe tightly, I said solemnly:

"If you wish to be human again, allow me to strip away your dragon qi, and enter the underworld for rebirth."

Now we were less than a meter apart.Even holding the robe, I was wide open—If she wanted, she could kill me instantly.

"No! Then I wouldn't be me anymore!"She shook her head violently.

My cultivation was shallow."Yan Chu Fa Sui" could only shake her spirit, not fully command her.But it worked to break her will—which was enough to learn the truth.

Suddenly, she smirked:

"Little Daoist, stalling with me is meaningless. He's probably already at your girlfriend's home.Soon, my remaining two souls will be retrieved—And I shall be reborn."

My mind went blank.A diversion!

"Damn your ancestors!"Furious, I bit my tongue, spat out a mouthful of blood-infused qi—Blood Spirit Mist—at her.

But it had no effect. She retreated into her sedan with a whoosh. The mist dispersed uselessly.

From within the sedan, her voice came:

"Soon I'll be human again.Just now you said that girl is your girlfriend? Then I mustn't kill you anymore. You may leave. The endless nights—I can finally walk free."

I wanted to kill her then and there. But all my defensive formations back home were meant to ward off ghosts—not humans or dark sorcerers. And now it was the dead of night… how the hell would I find a taxi?

No more hesitation.I turned and ran, yelling at Yicheng:

"Stop fighting! It's a trap! Shiyu is in danger!"

She still had her three hun and seven po souls. If the last two were taken, she'd die permanently.

Yicheng didn't respond.Clearly, he was still trapped in that emptied mind state.

I panicked and bolted toward Tiexi District. That's at least 20 kilometers from here.My blood essence had been drained, my hands were wounded—I was weak to the point of collapse.

I prayed for a miracle.Tears flowed as I ran.My house defenses wouldn't work on humans. Her parents were ordinary people—no match for dark sorcerers.

If something really happened to Jiang Shiyu…I didn't know what horrible things I might do in revenge.

I ran with everything I had.Even when I fell and puked blood, I got up again.

Eventually, I collapsed on the roadside—Staring up at the dark street, dim lights overhead.

"God… what now? How do I get back!?"

"AHHH!"I screamed into the pavement, full of despair.

Why didn't I think this through!?If I had left Yicheng behind, none of this would've happened!

Regret and guilt crushed me like a mountain.

I crawled up again, staggering into the middle of the road.If I missed even one car, I'd regret it forever.

I screamed, waved my arms, looking like a madman. At last, a tanker truck rolled into view—These only run after midnight because of hazardous cargo restrictions.

The truck roared toward me at full speed, headlights blinding.

But I didn't move.I stood in the middle of the road, fearless, willing to die to stop this steel beast.

Maybe Yuan Beitang was right—She and I were connected by fate from a past life. Her right eye and my left eye…Those tiny tear moles were silent witnesses to something greater.

Past life for what? This life for what?

Screaming and waving madly, the sound of screeching brakes exploded around me.

The truck dragged on for ten meters before finally stopping—Half a meter in front of me.

"Are you f***ing crazy!? Wanna die? Then get lost!"The driver cursed out his window.

"Sir, please! I need to save someone's life! Please help me!"I begged, utterly humbled.

Hearing that I was trying to save someone, the driver calmed a little, saw how beaten I looked, and said:

"You got robbed? You should call the cops.I'm carrying hazardous cargo—if I'm late, I get fined."

"I'll pay you! Please, I'm begging you!"I was desperate.

"Okay, calm down."He got out, pulled out his phone, and called someone.

A few minutes later, he said:

"Take a breather. I called the local police substation—they'll be here in ten minutes."

Then he handed me a cigarette. It was my first ever smoke.

My hands trembled, couldn't even speak clearly.

The driver asked how I got injured. Then he sighed:

"I'd help you if I could, but this job…If I hit you, lost my license, my whole family's screwed."

"I-I'm sorry. I panicked."I choked on the cigarette, but it calmed my heart.

Ten minutes later, a police van arrived.

The driver explained what happened. They loaded me in.

A young officer gave me a pep talk:

"Don't ever do something that crazy again. In trouble? Call the police!Where do you live? Were you robbed?"

"Officer! Please, hurry—go to Tiexi District, XX complex!Someone's life is in danger!"

The officers looked at each other, surprised.

"A murder? Kidnapping?"

I nodded furiously.

"Please! If we're late—it'll be a murder scene!"

One officer drove, the other called for backup. The police car shot forward, lights flashing, red-lining at 120 km/h, blowing past red lights.

We arrived at Jiang Shiyu's neighborhood.I jumped out the moment we stopped.

"Wait! Let backup arrive first—it's dangerous!"One officer grabbed my arm.

"Call the kidnappers!"

Call them?No time!

I broke free and ran for the apartment, the two officers yelling and chasing behind me.

As I stepped into the stairwell—My heart went cold.

This building had my Five-Element Formation and Four-Symbol Formation, powered by yang energy, should feel like spring even in winter.

But now…

"Why's it so cold?""Feels like a freezer in here."

You could see your breath in the air.Just like a morgue.

I drew my Seven-Star Sword, rushed up the stairs—And when I reached Jiang Shiyu's door,my mind went blank.

The door was wide open—And fresh blood stained the floor.
