Talent System In The Naruto Universe

Chapter 117: 117. Karin's Mother

"So... so amazing..."

Kurenai Yuhi's face turned slightly pale, unable to stop herself from exclaiming in awe.

It was her first time witnessing such a bloody scene, and she felt a bit unsettled.

Rin Nohara felt the same way, but she truly understood how terrifying Tsunade's strength was.

An ordinary Jonin stood no chance against her.

However, should they proceed with the plan they had just discussed?

"Run!"

At that moment, the three Grass Village ninjas finally snapped out of their daze.

They were utterly terrified and didn't even think about avenging their comrade, Shun Gen. They turned and fled.

The red-haired young woman also followed suit.

"Chase them!"

Hanekawa gave a short command and dashed forward, her figure turning into a blur.

Her target was the middle-aged man on the left because he was the fastest.

The sound of slicing wind echoed.

The middle-aged man, being a Chunin, remained vigilant even while fleeing.

He turned around, pulling out a kunai to block Hanekawa's Thunder Fire Blade.

Sparks flew as a screeching sound rang out.

The middle-aged man's eyes widened in shock as an immense force pushed him back involuntarily.

This is no ordinary Genin!

Without hesitation, he released his kunai, kicking off the ground to leap into the air.

As he prepared to form hand seals, the scenery before him flipped dramatically. His face filled with terror.

His body froze, and he started falling.

The pain snapped him back to his senses—he was caught in a genjutsu.

But when?

The thought barely crossed his mind before darkness engulfed him.

Hanekawa stepped forward, twisting his Thunder Fire Blade to finish him off.

He couldn't help but marvel at how convenient it was to use genjutsu against ordinary ninjas.

Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet Technique!

Kurenai Yuhi swiftly closed in on another young Chunin.

Once within range, she stopped, formed hand seals, and unleashed a water dragon.

Sensing danger, the young Chunin halted and slammed his hands on the ground, raising an earth wall.

The water dragon crashed into the wall, sending water and debris flying, but the wall held firm.

Kurenai anticipated this. After performing her jutsu, she used the Body Flicker Technique to leap atop the wall.

"Die!"

The young Chunin noticed her and pulled out four kunai, hurling them toward her.

Water Release: Water Blade Slash!

Kurenai jumped down, her kunai coated in water, slicing through the four kunai effortlessly.

"Wh-... Urgh..."

The young Chunin's eyes reflected the water-coated kunai as it slashed his neck.

He fell backward, blood gushing out.

Kurenai instinctively avoided the blood and refused to look at the fallen ninja.

Taking a deep breath, she suppressed her discomfort.

Although she had killed Grass Village ninjas before using Water Release techniques, this was her first time personally using a kunai to take a life.

"How does it feel?"

Hanekawa approached and asked.

"I'm fine," Kurenai shook her head, responding.

Hanekawa said no more, extending her hand to her.

Kurenai paused momentarily, her pale face gradually flushing red.

"Wait!"

Rin Nohara quickly caught up with the red-haired young woman.

Although the young woman was a ninja of the Uzumaki clan, she hadn't learned many techniques and was of average strength.

"We're Konoha ninjas, here to rescue you!"

Seeing the woman still trying to flee, Rin shouted loudly.

The red-haired woman froze in place, her expression one of disbelief.

"Really?" she asked cautiously.

"Really!"

Rin looked at the bite marks on her body and couldn't help feeling sympathetic.

She stepped forward and extended her hands.

Healing Technique!

A soft green chakra emanated from her hands.

The red-haired woman felt her fear lessen significantly.

If they wanted to kill her, there was no need to use medical ninjutsu on her.

Could she truly escape the hellish Grass Village?

She had survived the annihilation of the Uzumaki clan by sheer luck, only to encounter Grass Village ninjas shortly after.

They treated her as nothing more than a tool, a living blood source, keeping her barely alive.

Escape attempts always ended in failure due to her lack of strength.

"What's your name?"

Tsunade shifted her gaze to the red-haired young woman after watching Hanekawa and Kurenai's swift victories with satisfaction.

"Uzumaki Miho," the red-haired woman trembled, replying.

The sight of Tsunade killing Sungen with a single punch still haunted her.

"So, you're from the Uzumaki clan," Tsunade said, reaching out to gently pat her head. "Do you know Uzumaki Kushina?"

"I've heard of her name," Uzumaki Miho's eyes lit up as she said, "She was chosen by the clan and sent to Konoha Village."

"I'll take you to meet her," Tsunade said with a smile. "From now on, you're a ninja of Konoha."

Uzumaki Miho froze for a moment, her eyes reddening before she could no longer hold back her emotions. She rushed forward to hug Tsunade, crying her heart out.

Hanekawa let out a sigh.

In his past life, he had always felt that Karin and her mother had endured too much suffering. Saving them now felt like fulfilling a dream.

But then a question crossed his mind—would Karin even exist now?

Karin was about the same age as Uchiha Sasuke, which meant she hadn't been born yet. Although it was unclear who her father was, it was certain that he was a Grass Village ninja.

Now that Uzumaki Miho had joined Konoha, even if she married and had children later, her offspring wouldn't be the Karin from the original story.

A bit of a pity, but it was still for the best.

There was no way he could stand by and watch Uzumaki Miho suffer and die.

"Hanekawa," Tsunade said while gently patting Uzumaki Miho's back. "Go clean up the bodies."

Though Konoha wasn't afraid of Kusagakure, it was better to avoid unnecessary trouble.

As one of the major ninja villages, Konoha had to maintain its reputation.

"Understood," Hanekawa nodded slightly. He let go of Kurenai's hand and walked toward the corpses of the Kusagakure ninjas.

He piled the three bodies together, gathered some dry twigs and leaves, and set them ablaze.

By the time the fire had burned everything to ash, Uzumaki Miho had regained her composure—or more accurately, she now looked excited, as though she had been reborn.

The five of them began their journey back to Konoha Village.

---

Hokage's Office

Hiruzen Sarutobi studied Uzumaki Miho carefully.

He had never expected a C-rank mission to result in the rescue of an Uzumaki clan ninja.

In a way, it was quite remarkable.

He had always believed that Uzumaki Kushina was the sole surviving member of the Uzumaki clan.

"Tsunade, what do you think we should do with her?" Hiruzen asked after a moment's thought.

"Let her stay with Kushina," Tsunade replied without hesitation, having already made up her mind.

"Let's go with your suggestion," Hiruzen nodded slightly.

Uzumaki Kushina, confined within a barrier, had always wished for a companion to play with.

Although Minato Namikaze and Tsunade often visited her, they couldn't stay with her all the time.

Of course, Hiruzen had his own reasons for agreeing.

The Uzumaki clan was uniquely suited to becoming Jinchuriki.

Keeping Uzumaki Miho in Konoha would serve as a backup plan, just in case.

"Did you leave any traces?" Hiruzen asked as he picked up his pipe, only to set it down under Tsunade's sharp glare.

"Of course not," Tsunade said matter-of-factly. "You don't need to teach me something so basic."

"Let's talk about the mission rewards then," Hiruzen cleared his throat and continued, "One B-rank and one A-rank. Does that sound fair?"

"Fair enough," Tsunade replied, extending her hand. "Pay up."

"Shin," Hiruzen called out, "Bring 1.1 million ryo."

Before long, Shin entered with the payment.

Tsunade took the bankbook, glanced at it, and said, "Let's go, old man."

The mission was over, and there was no need to stay any longer. She still needed to take Uzumaki Miho to meet Kushina.

"Alright," Hiruzen nodded. After they left, he instructed Shin, "Have the Anbu keep an eye on Grass Village's movements."

---

Outside the Hokage's office, Tsunade casually handed the bankbook to Hanekawa.

While Tsunade was often short on money, she wasn't about to embezzle her students' mission rewards.

If it had been Hanekawa's money, she might have taken it, given their close relationship.

But for Rin Nohara and Kurenai Yuhi, that wouldn't do.

As a Jonin of Konoha, Tsunade had to maintain some dignity.

"After a week of missions, you must be exhausted. Take two days off," Tsunade said after some thought.

"Thank you, Sensei," Kurenai and Rin quickly replied.

The past week had been filled with either battles or long journeys, leaving them utterly drained.

"You two can leave now," Tsunade added after a pause. "Hanekawa, stay behind."

Kurenai and Rin exchanged a glance but didn't ask any questions, turning to leave.

"We're going to see Kushina," Tsunade said to Uzumaki Miho.

Miho appeared nervous, almost like someone hesitant to return to their hometown.

"Don't worry," Tsunade reassured her, taking her hand gently. "Kushina will be thrilled to see you."

"Alright," Miho nodded firmly.

"Let's go," Tsunade said, not letting go of her hand as they continued walking.

Hanekawa followed closely behind.

Before long, they arrived at Uzumaki Kushina's residence.

"Lady Tsunade! Hanekawa!"

Even before they saw her, Kushina's voice reached them.

A gust of wind blew past, and Uzumaki Kushina appeared before them.

With the Uzumaki clan's extraordinary sensory abilities, Kushina could detect Tsunade and Hanekawa long before they arrived, as long as she wasn't communicating with the Nine-Tails in the sealed space.

Suddenly, Kushina let out a curious sound.

Her gaze locked onto Uzumaki Miho.

Red hair, coupled with a terrifying amount of chakra—was she a member of her clan?

"Her name is Uzumaki Miho," Tsunade introduced.

"Wow!"

Kushina's face lit up with excitement as she quickly pulled Miho closer, looking her over carefully.

But then her eyes landed on the bite marks on Miho's skin, and her expression darkened.

"What happened here?!"

Kushina's temper flared as she entered a state of rage.

An enormous surge of chakra erupted from her, causing her clothes and hair to whip in the air.

Hanekawa instinctively took a step back, feeling an overwhelming sense of suffocation.

The sheer amount of chakra made him envious to the point of drooling.

"Kushina!" Tsunade intervened immediately.

"I... I'm fine!" Uzumaki Miho suppressed the surge of emotions in her heart and replied.

In Grass Village, no one cared whether she lived or died.

But here in Konoha, for the first time, she felt the warmth of being cared for, especially from Tsunade and Kushina.

"Who did this?"

Kushina took a deep breath, calming her chakra, and asked.

Miho opened her mouth to speak but didn't know how to begin.

"It was Grass Village," Tsunade explained briefly, summarizing Miho's ordeal.

Though Miho hadn't explicitly stated everything, it wasn't hard to piece the story together.

"Those bastards!"

Kushina clenched her fists, her face filled with anger. "Let's destroy them!"

"Calm down," Tsunade said, rubbing her temple.

In a way, Kushina's fiery temper rivaled her own. After all, Kushina was nicknamed the Red-Hot Habanero in the original story for a reason—a title earned during her time at the Konoha Ninja Academy, where she beat up all her classmates who teased her.

"Now isn't the time to act. I think we can wait until the next war breaks out, then deal with them quietly," Hanekawa suggested with a sly smile.

The three immediately turned their eyes to him, all looking surprised.

"Did I say something wrong?" Hanekawa asked with a cough.

"Good idea!" Kushina agreed enthusiastically. "We'll let them off for now!"

"You're quite the clever kid," Tsunade remarked, suddenly reminded of Tobirama Senju.

Hanekawa bore some resemblance to him.

Unlike Hashirama, Tobirama wasn't shy about using any means necessary, whether they were honorable or questionable. Techniques like Edo Tensei were proof of this.

Without human experimentation, creating such a jutsu would have been impossible.

Tobirama used Edo Tensei multiple times in the original story, including on the Second Tsuchikage, Chiyo, Kinkaku, and Ginkaku.

The jutsu required living people as vessels.

In a sense, Tsunade wouldn't use such methods herself, but as Hokage, one couldn't always remain overly righteous.

This kid might be Hokage material, she thought.

"Let's go inside," Kushina said, pulling Miho along. "Lady Tsunade will give you a full check-up."

"Thank you," Miho said, her eyes reddening once again.

"What's there to thank me for?" Kushina replied earnestly. "If anyone bullies you, I'll beat them up!"

With her personality, she absolutely meant it.

Hanekawa suddenly thought of Naruto.

If Kushina had been alive, Naruto would never have endured such cold treatment.

She might even have punched Hiruzen Sarutobi a few times.

In the living room, Tsunade placed her hand on Miho's forehead.

Her chakra flowed through Miho's body, scanning it thoroughly.

"Just as I thought, she's fine, though she's lost quite a bit of chakra," Tsunade said, meeting Kushina's worried gaze with a smile. "With some time to recuperate, she'll recover fully."

"That's great!" Kushina exclaimed, her face lighting up with relief.

"I'll prescribe some medicine. Give the list to the old man and have him buy it," Tsunade said after some thought.

She knew Hiruzen had ulterior motives for taking Miho in.

If that was the case, she might as well make him pay a hefty price.

Tsunade pulled out a piece of paper and wrote down a long list of rare and expensive herbs.

However, she wasn't trying to scam Hiruzen—the materials were genuinely necessary.

Restoring chakra meant replenishing vitality, and such ingredients were naturally costly.

"The old man said Miho will stay with you from now on," Tsunade said, handing the list to Kushina with a smile.

"I'll take good care of her!" Kushina promised firmly.
