Chapter 31 Divine Descent Skill
The air suddenly grew quiet.
Silence was the theme of the day in Si Fan Valley.
"What if I said I forgot? What would happen?" Jiang Li contemplated this thought in his mind.
For the past twenty or so days, he had been so engrossed in learning that he couldn't extricate himself—there was no time to worry about "Young Hero A Bin."
Even if Jiang Li had come to his senses yesterday, he was caught up in practicing the True Intent Technique Python and exchanging for Ninth Grade Talismans at the Daoist Law Pavilion. Writing, among other things, had long been tossed to the back of his mind.
"You didn't forget, did you?" The diminutive paper figure uttered with a gaze as piercing as a sword.
"How could I?"
Jiang Li replied with a frank face, "It just needs a bit more polishing and refining. You understand how important this sort of elegant writing is in stirring emotions, Elder Brother. And moreover..."
"And moreover what?" Qi Changsheng immediately asked.
"Elder Brother, could it be that you've forgotten what you promised me?" Jiang Li returned the gaze with a deep and sharp look, "It was clearly agreed upon before: I write the book, and you find out where Luo Yi went after leaving Wuqu Ping. I'm almost done with the book now, so where is the news?"
He turned the tables, switching from defense to offense.
The paper figure stiffened on the spot.
The spirit possessing the paper figure reacted in real-time, and since the paper was thin, the reaction was particularly evident.
Seeing this, Jiang Li knew that Qi Changsheng had not found Luo Yi's whereabouts.
Well, if it had been easy to find Luo Yi, Jiang Li wouldn't have needed to trouble himself in the first place.
In truth, Jiang Li had spoken casually at the time: it would be great if Qi Changsheng could find the information, but it wasn't a loss if he didn't. What Jiang Li truly valued was the storage bag. But now that he had forgotten to write the book, he could only grasp at this point to stand on moral high ground.
"Elder Brother, oh Elder Brother," Jiang Li sighed deeply, "In order to write for you, I've neglected my cultivation, to the point that Elder Wan punished me with reading a hundred classics and the Daoist scriptures of Three Teachings Unification. I trusted you so much, yet you intend to mooch off me."
With a second turn in his offensive strategy, he kicked his opponent while they were down.
Using his superb acting skills and keen insight, Jiang Li successfully shifted the pressure over to Qi Changsheng's side.
"Ah, this..." Qi Changsheng hesitantly said, "You can't blame me, ah, who would think that Luo Yi is so cunning, and the time was too short. I used all my connections, and I could only figure out that he took a boat out on that day. Before I could continue investigating, I ended up here."
"This... Elder brother, can we talk it over?" Qi Changsheng pleaded.
"No." Jiang Li was unyielding.
The paper figure hopped and jumped frantically on the stone table until finally, Qi Changsheng seemed to come to a decision.
"How about this? You finish refining the book, and I'll take you to seek an opportunity," Qi Changsheng proposed.
"An opportunity?"
"Why do you think I insisted on having your book? Why do you think I sought you out as soon as I found out you had arrived?"
As he spoke, the paper figure tensed and a faint light emerged on the surface, pulling at something.
After a moment, a sheet of paper filled with writing flew in through the small window and floated gently onto the stone table.
"Elder Brother, your Divine Essence is far surpassing the ordinary Ninth Grade, and you should be able to learn this technique. Give it three days; learn it and then I will take you to find the opportunity," said Qi Changsheng.
After speaking, the paper figure slowly collapsed, the faint light dissipating—the spiritual power it had been animated with was now exhausted.
The sheet of paper had landed precisely in front of Jiang Li, the first three bold characters catching his eye.
—Divine Descent Skill.
Jiang Li's curiosity was piqued, and he promptly scanned the sheet, fully covered with writing on both sides.
The Divine Descent Skill was the reverse version of the Summoning God Technique.
By reversing the Summoning God Technique, the original inviting of a deity into oneself turned into the descent of a deity into another's body, allowing one's own spiritual power to be projected onto someone else. Those of a higher Realm could even project their Divine Sense thousands of miles away, descending upon another's body using theirs as a vessel.
However, the version recorded on this particular sheet of paper was not the true Divine Descent Skill but merely a minor method of hosting spiritual power, equivalent to a low-end knockoff version.
By attaching spiritual power to a paper figure and controlling it, one could explore through objects as Qi Changsheng had just done.
Although the paper figure had virtually no combat capabilities, only serving as a means of reconnaissance, it was not an ordinary Magic.
If it were judged by Grade, the method would rank at least Eighth Rank, because theoretically one should reach Eighth Rank to achieve an out-of-body spiritual power experience. But for those with powerful Divine Essences, it wasn't impossible to achieve this at Ninth Grade, as was the case with Jiang Li. Indeed, there were many more who could accomplish this at Ninth Grade with spiritual power than those who could project True Qi from their bodies.
This was because the essence of spiritual power was formless, unlike True Qi, which had substance.
Qi Changsheng, having witnessed the battle at Fengyun Platform, was well aware of the strength of Jiang Li's Divine Essence and was thus not worried about his inability to cultivate the skill.
"So it is this Summoning God Technique... It doesn't seem to be a technique of our sect. This should be a Magic that the Upper Pure Sect excels in."
After comprehensively reading the content, Jiang Li had gained a basic understanding of the Divine Descent Skill and realized it was not a specialty of the Dinghu Sect. It was in fact a Magic of the Mystic Sect, precisely what the Upper Pure Sect was skilled at.
Moreover, the Dinghu Sect and the Upper Pure Sect did not have much of a relationship. Logically, Qi Changsheng, a disciple of the Dinghu Sect, should not have had access to this Magic.
For a moment, Jiang Li's curiosity about the opportunity Qi Changsheng mentioned grew substantially.
"The problem is that achieving the goal is a bit troublesome."
Jiang Li felt somewhat vexed.
Learning the basic version of the Divine Descent Skill wasn't difficult; with his perception now enhanced by the Three Teachings Unification, he had nearly understood it after a single reading. The Magic itself wasn't complex and, with some effort, it could be mastered. The challenge lay in completing "Young Hero A Bin."
Although he had initially copied the contents from his memory to the Karma Collection and even made the necessary alterations to fit the ancient background, Jiang Li could copy verbatim. But!
It was over five hundred thousand words.
Copying nine hundred thousand words of scripture, Feng Ziyang had given two months, yet for writing a novel of five hundred thousand words, there were only three days.
This...
Jiang Li looked around and heaved a deep sigh, "It seems I've really ended up in the 'small dark room.'"
The procrastinating writer turned out to be myself.
And with Fasting Pills at hand, eating, drinking, and bodily functions could all be spared; he was truly committed to the writer's path to the very end.
So what else was there to do? Write.
Jiang Li resignedly began grinding ink, then picked up his brush to write.
"Three days then, if I am determined and diligent enough, it's not impossible to finish writing five hundred thousand words in three days. The Karma Collection is invincible!"
Jiang Li never thought that one day he would use the power to fixate karma for such a purpose.
But as he wrote, he discovered some potentials for development.
Like ambidexterity, using both hands to write simultaneously.
Like multitasking, with both hands producing different contents.
Effort yields rewards. Whatever humans can accomplish, Jiang Li could as well—this included writing a five hundred thousand-word novel in three days.
One person, two pens, three days' time, creating a miracle.
