Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Throne of Guilt, Crown of Ash
Mirrostasia stood just inches away.
The mirrors on her body rotated faster—slicing the air, distorting the chamber. Each reflection showed a different version of me:
One who took the throne.
One who burned it.
One who walked away and forgot everything.
> "You have to choose," she said.
"This place is breaking. I can't hold the Root much longer."
Adrian screamed behind me. The vats were leaking now, spilling thick fluid onto the floor. One of the clones—Prototype 06—was twitching violently, the system trying to reclaim it before it could think.
Harper drew her blade.
"I'll fight her if I have to."
"No," I said.
"Let me."

> [SYSTEM ALERT: CHOICE LOCK IMMINENT]

Memory Integrity Risk: EXTREME
Seed Code Reactivation Detected
---
I walked toward the throne.
My feet splashed through black water that burned like acid, but I didn't stop.
I ran my fingers along the roots—slick, throbbing with old sins.
> "You gave them trials built on trauma."
"You fed the system our worst memories."
"And you called it growth."
Mirrostasia tilted her head, one eye shimmering like Emily's.
> "And they all became stronger for it."
"No," I growled.
"They became haunted."
---
She stepped aside.
The throne waited.
Wires writhed like serpents, ready to pierce me.
And then…
A fourth reflection appeared in her mirrors.
It showed me…
Breaking the throne.
Burning the whole Root.
Screaming.
Smiling.
Free.

---
I looked at Adrian.
At Harper.
At the clones still gasping in the dark.
And I knew—
There wasn't a good choice.
Only one that meant something.
---
I turned to Mirrostasia.
Took one breath.
And said:
> "I choose to burn it."
---
She didn't scream.
She didn't beg.
She just... smiled.
> "Then you'll finally be free, Kai."
> "But freedom has a cost."
---
I walked to the throne.
Tore out the Root Key.
And shoved it into the system core.
The chamber shattered.
Mirrors exploded.
The roots screamed.
The throne caught fire.
---
Adrian cried out as light blinded us.
Harper grabbed my arm—
But I pushed her back.
> "Don't. Let me go."
> "Live."
> "Remember me."
---
The fire consumed the throne.
My skin cracked.
My vision bled into red and gold.
And the System—
> Began to reboot.

---
> No voice.

Just… ash.
---
Somewhere, a child woke up in a new system room.
They blinked, confused, as the system whispered:
> "You are not alone."
"This one was built by someone… who cared."
