chapter 395 - The Infinite Tower [lll]
Taufik arrived at the Saranjana Kingdoms, leaving behind the chaos he had just caused. He stepped out of a shimmering portal and found himself in the Portal Hall, a vast chamber lined with crystalline archways and softly glowing runes. The air still buzzed faintly with the residual energy of his arrival.
The guards stationed near the portal stood at attention and saluted him respectfully.
"Where are the Queens?" Taufik asked one of them.
"All the Queens are in the Royal Garden, Your Majesty, together with the Princes and Princesses," The guard replied firmly.
"Is that so? Thank you. Keep up the good work," Taufik said with a nod, his voice calm yet commanding.
He left the Portal Hall, walking with steady strides toward the Royal Garden, located behind the grand palace.
The path there curved through a corridor of blooming flowers and led to a breathtaking garden overlooking the sea. The breeze carried the scent of salt and petals, and the distant cries of seabirds mingled with the laughter of children.
As Taufik entered the garden, his gaze softened.
He saw his parents, playing joyfully with their grandchildren beneath a tall magnolia tree.
Nearby, in a large white-painted gazebo, sat his wives, cousin, and grandmother, engaged in light conversation. Shasha, ever dutiful, served them tea with a warm smile.
Taufik paused for a moment, his eyes drawn to the laughter of his children running barefoot through the soft grass.
A gentle smile played on his lips.
Then, he made his way toward the gazebo.
"I'm back," He said simply.
That was all it took. Every woman in the gazebo turned to him at once, their expressions lighting up with recognition and curiosity.
"Lil' bro, you're back," Amanda said, setting down her teacup, her eyes glinting with interest. "I want to ask-"
"Is it about that tower?" Taufik interrupted knowingly.
"Oh~ So it was you who made that tower, honey?" Gaia added, her tone amused, as if she had already guessed. "Does it have something to do with that Realm Gate?"
Taufik didn't answer right away. He took a seat as Shasha gracefully placed a cup in front of him and poured in the tea.
"Thank you, Shasha," He said, taking a sip before replying.
"Yes," He confirmed. "I created that tower to contain all the 'bad' Realm Gates"
"'Bad' Realm Gates?" Kaela echoed, her fingers already moving, scribbling notes in her ever-present journal.
Taufik nodded and began to explain. He detailed everything he had learned about the Realm Gates, their dangers, their origins, and their potential.
Kaela, as expected, noted down every word diligently.
"That thing is that dangerous?" Jenn asked, frowning.
"It is," Taufik admitted. "But with the tower, humanity now has an opportunity to grow stronger. Yes, it's dangerous… but the opportunities it offers are just as great"
"Huh~ That sounds interesting," Said Rani with a mischievous grin. "So, when can I go to that tower?"
"For now… I won't be opening the tower to others," Taufik said firmly.
"Hmph~ So when?" Anugerah pressed, intrigued.
"I need to test it first," He said, casually sipping his tea.
"So… you're going again, Master?" Tina asked softly, her expression tinged with worry.
"I will"
"Just don't push yourself," Grandma finally spoke, her voice carrying a quiet authority. "I know you're strong… but beyond those Realm Gates lie unknown realms. Be careful"
"I know, Grandma. Don't worry"
"…Like right now?" Jenn asked, surprised. "Will you take Aksara with you? Maybe Father?"
"No. Aksara is busy. And Father… I want him to enjoy time with Mom. Instead, I'll go with someone else"
He turned his gaze to Amanda and Jenn.
"With that said… Jenn, where's my brother-in-law right now?"
"What, are you planning to bring Jay with you, dear?" Jenn asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah. Not just him. I'm bringing Caldwell too," Taufik said, then looked to Amanda. "Is he busy at the moment?"
"Caldwell?" Amanda thought for a moment. "I don't think so. Mother, Father, and Uncle Edmund are helping him out lately, so he should be free enough"
"Good. I'll bring him. And I plan to invite four more people. Hopefully, they're not too busy"
"Huh? You're bringing that many people?" Jenn said, eyes widening. "Is that Realm Gate… really that dangerous?"
"Actually, I could go alone," Taufik said, his tone calm. "But I want to bring these people with me to train them. This world is growing more dangerous by the day. I could be in multiple places at once, but honestly? That's just too bothersome"
He took the final sip from his cup.
"That's why I'm training them. So that if something ever happens and I'm not there… at least they'll be able to act in my place"
"Ahaha~ What a good way to say you're just too lazy, Lil bro," Amanda teased, leaning back with a smirk.
Taufik rolled his eyes but didn't bother to argue. She wasn't wrong, after all. Why handle everything yourself when you can prepare others to handle it for you?
"So, you're going to the British Empire, huh?" Amanda continued, her tone becoming a bit more serious.
"Yes," Taufik replied, raising an eyebrow. "Why? You want to come along?"
Amanda tilted her head thoughtfully. "Can I?"
"Huh? Why not?" Taufik asked, now genuinely puzzled. "Something happens? Did something make you uncomfortable about going back home?"
There was a pause.
Amanda lowered her gaze, fingers gently tracing the rim of her teacup. Her voice softened.
"…Well~" She began, hesitating slightly. "…It's just… you know, Caldwell… he's… he's become something different"
Taufik's brow furrowed slightly. "Different? What do you mean?"
Amanda sighed, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, then glanced sideways, hesitant.
"You know… he told me something. That night… the night he asked you to make him a Vampire..."
Taufik tilted his head, now visibly confused. "He did ask me that. Is your brother turning into a Vampire really that strange to you?"
Amanda hesitated.
"Wolf..."
"Wolf?" Taufik echoed, blinking.
Amanda's voice dropped to a near whisper.
"...Caldwell didn't become a Vampire..."
Taufik's expression hardened. "Huh? Then what did he become?"
She looked him straight in the eye now.
"He turned into... a Werewolf"
Silence.
"...' Were'-what?"
"It's Werewolf, he turned into a fucking Werewolf"
Taufik just stared at her, blankly.
"..."
"..."
"...Werewolf? Really?" He repeated slowly as if testing the word on his tongue. Then, without missing a beat, he gave her a dry look and asked: "Amanda… how much did you drink today?"
Amanda huffed, smacking his shoulder lightly.
"I'm serious!"
"So am I! That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard all week-" Taufik stopped himself mid-sentence, suddenly remembering something. A brief flicker of memory, an odd energy during the ritual, something primal… wild… off.
His smirk faded. Slowly, his eyes narrowed.
"...You're not joking?"
Amanda shook her head solemnly.
"Not at all. He hides it well… But I've seen the signs. His eyes… the way he reacts to the moon, to instincts… and one time, he disappeared for three days. When he came back, his clothes were shredded and he had no memory of what happened"
Taufik leaned back, one hand resting on his chin, the weight of the situation settling in.
"...That's impossible… unless…" He muttered, then let out a sharp breath. "Damn! I really don't know, how is that even possible?"
Amanda crossed her arms, clearly not amused. "You're asking me? Who am I supposed to ask, huh? You're the one who turned him into that, remember?"
Taufik opened his mouth to respond, but no words came out. The confusion, the doubt, it all swirled in his mind. Instead, his gaze drifted toward the person who sat beside Amanda, locking onto the one person who might have the answers he lacked.
"Grandma," He called out, voice more serious than before. "Is what this girl said… true?"
His grandmother didn't even flinch. She set her cup down gently, then looked at him with calm, steady eyes.
"It is," she replied without hesitation.
"...But there's no need to worry. In fact, with that, the British Empire has a chance to survive the calamity. So… it's all good"
Taufik went silent.
He could have questioned Amanda and even dismissed her concerns as a misinterpretation. But his grandmother? Never. Her words were never casual. If she said it was true, it was true.
He looked down, his thoughts racing.
'...What the hell happened? Was there something wrong in the process when I turned him to a Vampire? Did something… interfere? No, that's Impossible too'
For a moment, he clenched his fist.
'Or… was it never just a Vampire? Did the system do something?'
The more he thought about it, the more uneasy he became. There had been no error message, no sign. But he remembered… that night; there's really nothing happened.
Amanda's voice broke through his thoughts.
"So? Now what, Mister Genius?"
He looked up, his expression firm again, though a shadow of uncertainty still lingered.
"Now… I figured out what really happened when I met him later. And make sure Caldwell doesn't lose himself in the process"
"Good." Grandma smiled slightly, as if satisfied with his answer. "Because this world needs people like him. Like you. Not perfect, but prepared"
