Chapter 17: Task Tasks and more Tasks (3)
Struns sat watching what he considered a true spectacle. The twins were always seen as the most formidable in terms of mental and soul strength but they were never considered as combat worthy. They were strategists and worked better behind the scenes or even behind the combatants as support.
Struns was seeing a different side to Mis and Anis. Mis came out of the new library room full of fury and determination. He wanted to become some type of warrior before Struns and Anis left the library.
First they fought to exhaustion with Anis using fate magic and Mis using knowledge magic. They rested a moment and now they were both using only mental and soul magic.
Three times they had both stood standing frozen on the spot and Struns was not sure if he would need to intervene. Now they were frozen again but this time he could see the sparks of grey and yellow light igniting between them. For some reason he was a little more at easy at seeing that they were able to resist each other.
At first he thought they would both be lost in the other's attack.
"They really are pulling out all the stops this time."
Anis's body trembled slightly. She understood she was in an illusion but still she could not break free. She never imagined that Mis would be this powerful and she fought against both jealous and pride over her brother's ability.
He had formed an elaborate illusion that actually set in the center of at least two other illusions and as soon as she thought she was out she was sent back to the center.
She had to find a way out without thinking of logic. She had to use instinct and she was not sure how. Could she be taught something like that?
Mis walked through a dense forest. He was examining his surroundings. He had already discovered how to escape the illusion. His sister's illusion deteriorated as soon as the person realized they were in an illusion.
When he discovered this he was a bit surprised and even found himself shaking his head in judgment. Anis was brilliant with fate magic.
With purple light no one could match her, but outside that she was like a fish out of water.
He could tell she was not fairing well in his illusionary trap. He knew she would not find her way out soon so he decided to explore her illusion to gain greater insight in using it
Rachel's face was lifted up toward the light pouring down over her. Emil had come to Azzit yesterday and they had planned to leave for Klut tomorrow.
She felt like she had too much to do and so little time to do it. The light poured over her rejuvenating her abilities and waking them to a point that she had never felt before.
As the light poured over her some seeped into her being and flooded every part of her. When she first wielded rainbow magic with eleven distinct colors and a multitude of shades she was only three years old.
At that time no one knew and she did not fully understand the implications. She closed her eyes wishing that she could go back to being that obliviously ignorant child.
The light continued to flow into her body. It saturated her every pour and filled her soul well. When her well filled to capacity she felt a slight tremor within it and she gracefully sat down in a cross-legged position.
Her forearms rested on her knees and her thumbs and index finger touched with the palms of her hands up.
As her soul well broke free of its current limitations more light surged into her being to refill it.
Her muscles swelled. Knowledge filled her brain. Her innate sorcery expanded and her mentality and soul capacity increased.
As her body and mind adjusted and became familiar with the new normal and she calmed and centered herself.
"How many times are you going to increase your abilities in one day?"
Cramnal's voice was overly calm, as usual. Rachel smiled thinking about her seemingly emotionless brother.
"You know that I do not allow my abilities to evolve. I felt that there was no need."
"But now you've changed your mind because of the chaos?"
Rachel nodded. "Because of the extent, type, and the fact that I did not sense it."
The truth was Rachel was so intrinsically tied to the core realm that any minute changes should register with her immediately. For a thing like this odd chaos to grow unchecked, even altering the realm to where it could not remember things, or recognize the Milana, made her extremely nervous.
The core realm centered all the other realms and all things within the other realms originated in some form or fashion from it. As people discovered the different realms they typically moved from realm to realm and most ended up living in the core realm.
Only the Azmin originated from the core realm and this is why the Milana was usually chosen from this ethnic group.
A part of Rachel felt guilty about not increasing her abilities regularly but it had always been a hindrance rather than an asset. When traversing from realm to realm the barriers were effected by the individual. Rachel was too unique. She found out a long time ago that crossing realms essentially alerted the realm and even though only the core realm was sentient the others innately "wanted" her.
She believed that this is why her grandmother became corrupted. She passed into a realm and was "touched" by it. As the realm laid claim her unique inner balance was disrupted; essentially her grandmother's body no longer knew where it belonged.
It took Rachel a long time to realize this and even longer to accept it.
Still she chose to bring that realm under subjection. Right or wrong she would pacifie or tame the realm.
But to do that she had to have the realm believe she was not unique. She could not have the realm wanting her.
Now she would have to come up with a new plan. Maybe she would allow the realm to own a part of her soul. Azmin could allow an infinite number of realms to possess them. They just needed to understand the realm and know if they could keep the realm balanced and at peace.
"I want to increase two more times. I think that should be sufficient. With where I am now I can slightly sense the main knot of chaos. Most of the smaller ones are screaming loudly and some are just a normal murmur; so I think two more increases will have me at the right spot."
Cramnal looked at her impassively for a long moment. He turned to walk away. "Resisting an advancement can be dangerous Milana."
As he walked away Rachel smirked. He had emphasized the word Milana. She shook her head and started her next increase. She allowed the light fall to enrich her as she remained sitting.
The color of her hair deepened as the number of rainbow streaks increased. Her hair rose into the air the rainbow streaked strands sparked varying colors of light.
She allowed the light to fill her but she focused on this new ability. It was an ability within sorcery and the only Azmin she had ever known to have it was a great aunt. The previous Milana's sister.
Only a few knew that this was a sorcery ability because sorcery was taboo for the Azmin. It was a secret that only her grandmother knew. But all Milana memories were transferred to the new Milana so this knowledge passed to Rachel.
She allowed the strands to move on their own as her body, soul and mind regained balance.
Each stand contained a unique spell and was able to control specific runes. What surprised her was the runes were not just of ancient Azmin and she actually didn't recognize some. She thought she knew all runic languages and she was completely unaware of five… no…. six that her hair strands controlled.
'I'll have to scan my memories later.'
She took several deep breaths, focused to see how well she perceived the chaos, and started her last increase.
It was time. Emil was now within the falls strengthening himself and Shain had re-centered and increased his skills substantially. They needed to go to the central continent soon and physically look at the main knot of chaos.
