Surviving the Apocalypse with a System.

Chapter 23 Morning Showdown ( Part 3 )

Nevya smashed her spear into the tiled floor and just like before rapid chains of electricity came lashing out.

The static energy built up fast and before Caesar knew what had hit him , he was once again in the air, having been blown off the building without any prism to now hang on to.

Now the cowboy’s durability was pushed to the limits as he came crashing on the asphalt below and rolling on the streets like a vehicle that had lost control. He burst through a petrol tanker and left it exploding behind before finally being able to twist and contort his body till he was on his feet once again.

“Death embraces soul ,” he breathed heavily , unsure of how he had just survived that sequence.

He had stopped in the same street that the military and Aiko had gathered at , standing just a few metres ahead of the group.

Carol bit her lip , fearing that their battle might drag out to them and lead to severe casualties.

“ If I am not careful , that woman will have me in the after life ,” Caesar spat furiously , struggling with his depleting stamina to once again produce more prisms.

He managed to produce about five and four were instantly shot down when Nevya’s spear landed , sending multi directional surges of power.

Aided by the flooded street , the electricity was able to quickly spread everywhere , blowing up major portions of that street's infrastructure and raising some of the military vehicles to high heavens.

As Caesar leapt out of harm’s way and took off on his last remaining prism with Nevya close on his heel , Aiko was left to watch the charred remains of countless innocent soldiers fall off their feet one after the other , having been fried senseless by Nevya’s immense power surge. Unnecessary casualties.

She turned to her left, where Carol had been. The charred remains of the soldier were just barely enough to identify her. Prudence and Hamilton’s son never stood a chance , the vehicle they were in having been amongst the very first to blow up.

“ Oh no , the son of the fool is dead as well ,” Aiko approached the vehicle that Prudence and Hamilton’s son had been in and took a peek inside.

Nevya was again able to land Caesar onto the streets , this time aiming her spear so perfectly that it impaled his shoulder when he fell , cutting right through and severing the arm off.

“ That spear is driving fucking mind to madness !” Caesar yelled at the pain.

Nevya wasted no time after landing , bringing the fight to a fast paced hand to hand.

Caesar just about finished healing and replacing the severed arm with a fresh one before Nevya clocked him viciously with the back of her fist.

She leapt lightly into the air , ripples of electricity condensing and forming small floating platforms that her feet could use as stairs to get above Caesar and flip on over to his unguarded back side. This lively show was merely meant to be a distraction so she could get behind him and thrust her spear through his heart in one clean throw.

His healing talent was nowhere near good enough to heal such a fatality.

He could only stand still and watch as Nevya pulled back her spear and proceeded to chop his head clean off with it even before he fell to the ground. It was going to be the evidence that she presented to her master to prove that the job was done.

State House , Rein City.

“ Mr President , the first Titan has made its appearance in the East Atlantic ocean ,” a soldier interpreted what she was reading on the wall-sized global monitor.

“ So what we feared has finally come to pass. How many people have you been able to get past the portals?” the president asked the Inspector General of the nation’s defence forces.

“ Reports indicate that ten percent of the population has been evacuated, Mr President. We were unable to do more with the international Mage Association getting in our way” the general replied.

“ Ten percent is more than we could have hoped for , Pablo. With the earth at death’s door , let us hope that the plans we have been working on to restart the nation will succeed,” the president spoke solemnly , his patriotic heart pained by what was happening to his motherland.

“ And what of Jack Kamphar , Mr President?” The general wanted to know more.

“ What of him?”

“ Well , Mr president ,after he escaped arrest he has not only taken down some of the most powerful monsters we’ve seen so far , but also a first class mage. Reports are even coming in that he has killed one of those enforcers , but that is still being verified ,”

“Jack Kamphar is quite possibly the strongest human of earth origin right now , you’ll find no argument here. But those are just earth standards , we cannot hedge our survival on him,”

“ Mr President , you’re saying that he is not enough to save us? Even after he’s proven to be far stronger than even the highest ranked first class mage?”

“There are real monsters out there , general , and you know it . Beings of unfathomable power whose worlds still lost to the Titan race,” the president took a seat from the round table , his legs giving in to old age.

“Mr President , that new enforcer who approached us , do you think she will keep her word?” the general pulled up a seat closer. The other officers did the same too , status and decorum having been set far away at this time of apocalypse.

“ She is shrewd and driven , some of the traits that make a person most dangerous. But I doubt that the enforcer’s interests fully align with those of the Titans she serves. To that end , I can at least rely on her word that our people are going into safer lands as they walk through those damned portals,”

Another officer entered the room and saluted .

“Mr President , all of the nation’s remaining military forces stand at the ready. You only need give the command and we will join forces with other nations to fight for this world,”

“ You speak of things as if you think I’m leaving you people,”

“But Mr President , we already talked about this. My job right now first and foremost is your safety,” the general intervened , angry that the president still wanted to stay back.

“ And I trust you to do your job , general . This is the last I will hear of this matter. What commander in chief would I be if I left my soldiers behind in the war for the world?”

As he stood motionless floating amongst the clouds , Jack felt the high winds blow past his hair and give him a therapeutic sense of calm. Naaman was beside him , maintaining both of their aerial positions with one of his own System’s talents.

Looking into the horizon , the both of them had a clear view of the Titan that had just landed on earth.

After he'd sensed Nevya’s victory and was sure she no longer relied on his stamina, Jack had activated Constricted Surface and made short work of the Dread Ghost .Following this , he had gone straight to the street where he had seen Carol and the rest of the military during one of the moments that Caesar had sent him flying across buildings .

Nevya had met him here , offering him the head of Caesar.

“My hand has served the master,” she had bowed.

Aiko was standing beside Hamilton’s dead son , unsure of what to do or feel.

The nanny had tried to protect the child by shielding him with her own body. This had protected the boy’s body from severe burns ,and Jack was able to see that he had red hair and a funny face just like his father.

“ Hamilton , I’m sorry. Your son died before you ever knew he existed,” he walked away from the disturbing sight.

Taking a sweep of the area and seeing how many burnt corpses there were , Jack just assumed that Aiko had been the only survivor.

A noisy racket was heard from behind and Naaman appeared , casually pushing away a truck that was blocking most of the road to make way for himself.

Naaman smiled on seeing Nevya holding Caesar’s head , “ You have exceeded all of our expectations.”
