Chapter 448: Chapter 445: Akatsuki (Part 2)
"Suigetsu, here's your new weapon," Daniel said as he tossed a large sword resembling the Kubikiribōchō (Executioner's Blade) to Suigetsu. Since the Kiba blades didn't suit Suigetsu and Kurotsuchi Raiga wasn't dead yet, Daniel had no intention of stripping his weapons. In the meantime, he crafted a blade similar to the Kubikiribōchō, taking into account Suigetsu's abilities.
"Hey, this isn't just for show, right?" Suigetsu complained as he caught the blade, clearly unsatisfied. If it was only a replica, then it would be no better than the mass-produced knockoffs of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen's blades sold on the market—some of which even had collectible figures.
"It's not just for show. I replicated the exact properties of the original Executioner's Blade. It has the same ability to repair itself using the iron from the blood of its victims." Daniel explained that he had analyzed the original Kubikiribōchō and used a combination of his Ope Ope no Mi abilities, alchemy, and Metallion plants to craft the sword. If it weren't for Suigetsu being part of Sasuke's team, Daniel wouldn't have bothered going to such lengths to recreate it.
"You're serious?" Suigetsu gave the sword a test swing and remarked, "The weight is exactly the same as the original."
"You can test it out on some animals' blood to see for yourself," Daniel said as he casually flicked his finger, shattering the tip of the sword with a focused burst of wind pressure.
"I'll do that right now!" Suigetsu dashed off with the newly forged Kubikiribōchō to test its regenerative properties.
"Should I get myself a fixed weapon too?" Daniel mused as he watched Suigetsu rush off. He began considering his own collection of swords.
Daniel possessed several legendary blades, including the black and white Xuanshan, the Hanguang, and the red and white twin blades from Qin's Moon. He also had a few named swords from the pirate world, like the famous Shusui, which he had given to Akame.
However, despite his extensive collection, Daniel rarely used them. He could create weapons on the fly using energy or alchemy, and most of his battles didn't even require a sword. His weapon collecting was more of a hobby, like someone who collects antiques.
But now, with his shadow clone focusing on dedicated sword training, it seemed like a good idea to settle on a single weapon. After all, focusing on one sword would allow him to "nurture" it, channeling energy like chakra or qi into the blade.
While nurturing a weapon wasn't essential for most people, for top-tier warriors, it made a difference. It could lead to a blade gaining legendary status, like the black blades in One Piece.
"Even though it's just for practice, it might come in handy in the future." Daniel finally decided to craft his own blade. He combined vibranium with several rare materials to forge a long single-edged sword.
He also engraved the sword with mystical symbols, making the weapon invaluable based solely on its materials, not to mention its ability to seamlessly channel various elemental energies.
Unlike the Kiba blades or the Sword of the Thunder God, which could only channel lightning chakra, Daniel's newly crafted sword could channel all five chakra natures, similar to Sasuke's Kusanagi sword.
Sasuke's Kusanagi was known for its versatility with elemental chakra. Though often shown with lightning enhancements due to Sasuke's preference, it worked equally well with all five elements.
"Come to think of it, I regret not filming the Konoha Crush during Orochimaru's invasion. It could've made for a great action movie," Daniel thought to himself as he watched a movie play on the giant screen in the Angkor Fortress' main hall.
In this world, there were actual films, and actors had their own fan bases. One of the most famous was Fujikaze Yukie, the star of the Princess Gale trilogy.
After the Angkor Fortress arrived above the southern base, Daniel made several modifications, such as setting up movie equipment and even installing a holographic projection system.
Karin loved watching movies, though most others didn't share her enthusiasm. For the ninjas, the special effects looked too fake, considering their real-world combat experiences.
Though they were still far from the technology of Boruto's era, films and entertainment were a budding industry. However, no shinobi had ever tried to become a movie star—at least, not yet.
In addition to the movie setup, Daniel installed a holographic arcade, which quickly became Suigetsu's favorite hangout. Sometimes, he even dragged Jugo along. Fortunately, Daniel implemented an anti-addiction system, or Suigetsu might never leave the arcade.
The Angkor Fortress wasn't floating too high above the ground. Daniel had created a wooden ladder using Wood Release, connecting the ground to the fortress for easy access. Though the upgrades weren't just for entertainment, they served a purpose. The fortress also became a place for Karin to study, with even Sasuke occasionally dropping in to learn.
Knowledge of science proved incredibly useful in ninja techniques. For instance, understanding electromagnetism could greatly expand the possibilities of lightning-style jutsu. Techniques like lightning shields or electromagnetic fields became much more feasible. In fact, one could replicate the powers of magnetic release with a deep understanding of how electricity and magnetism work.
Daniel himself had created an electromagnetic pulse jutsu, which wouldn't have much impact in the world of shinobi but could easily disrupt the power grid in a modern city.
"Looks like it's raining again. Is Nagato using Rain Tiger at Will?" Daniel mused as he hovered invisibly over the lake near Amegakure. The constant rain over the village was an iconic feature of the place, and it seemed Nagato was once again using his technique to monitor the area.
"This jutsu really leaves no room for sneaking around. No wonder Jiraiya had such a hard time infiltrating," Daniel thought, acknowledging that there was no simple way to avoid being detected by Rain Tiger at Will. It was a specialized sensory jutsu that could detect any foreign presence, no matter how small, like a single toad.
"I guess I'll have to resort to this." For a regular shinobi like Obito, there wasn't much that could bypass the Rain Tiger at Will technique. But Daniel had a trick up his sleeve: the Mirror Dimension. No matter how powerful Nagato's sensory abilities, they wouldn't work inside the Mirror Dimension.
"An iron city..." Daniel observed the unique layout of Amegakure as he entered through the Mirror Dimension. The village was dominated by towering steel structures, a necessity given the constant rain. Without such buildings, most would have crumbled under the relentless weather.
Amegakure had only one bridge connecting it to the outside world, guarded by numerous ninjas. Anyone wanting to enter or leave had to undergo strict scrutiny. This level of security ensured that very little information leaked out of the village. It was an incredibly isolated place.
Despite its isolation, many clients still sought out Amegakure, thanks to the fearsome reputation of Hanzo the Salamander. Little did they know, Hanzo had been dead for some time, killed by the Six Paths of Pain.
Hanzo, known for his incredible strength, had been extremely cautious in his old age, surrounding himself with elite guards at all times. His residence was a labyrinth of nested rooms, with elite jonin guarding every corner. There were always at least twelve jonin protecting him at any given moment.
In addition to his personal strength and his salamander's deadly poison, Hanzo's paranoia had kept him alive through countless assassination attempts during the Second Shinobi World War. Even the major villages had failed to take him down.
Unfortunately for Hanzo, no amount of security could protect him from an enemy with overwhelming power. Nagato's Six Paths had simply bulldozed their way through Hanzo's defenses, killing him without much of a fight.
Though Hanzo was dead, Nagato and Konan continued the ruse that he was alive, mainly to maintain Amegakure's status. Inside the village, however, everyone knew that the new rulers were Pain, the "god," and Konan, the "angel."
"This village has some tight security. Between Rain Tiger at Will and Konan's paper clones, nothing escapes their watch," Daniel thought as he observed the layout from the Mirror Dimension. His gaze eventually settled on the tallest iron tower in the village, where Nagato and Konan were most likely hiding.
"Akatsuki's main base is here, but it seems like only Nagato, Konan, Obito, and Black Zetsu have ever been here," Daniel reflected. He was mainly interested in finding Black Zetsu, though.
"So this is Nagato..." As Daniel stepped into the topmost floor of the tower, he found Nagato's real body—emaciated and frail—being cared for by Konan. IV drips were attached to his body, clearly keeping him alive. It seemed like Nagato had been relying on this setup for years just to survive.
In the corner, the Deva Path—Pain's most prominent body—stood motionless, leaning against the wall. When no outsiders were around, Nagato didn't bother using the Deva Path.
"He looks worse than Whitebeard..." Daniel noted. Whitebeard had needed constant IV drips as well, but at least the pirate could still drink and eat heart
ily. Nagato's body, on the other hand, was in such poor condition that it seemed unlikely he could do much of anything. Only his Uzumaki lineage had kept him alive this long.
"Even without using the Rinne Rebirth Jutsu, Nagato probably doesn't have long to live..." Daniel thought after examining the contents of Nagato's IV. He then formed a series of hand seals, and the Mirror Dimension expanded, creating a dazzling light show as it enveloped Nagato and Konan.
"Nagato!" Konan's face hardened as she immediately moved to shield Nagato, summoning paper to defend them. At the same time, the Deva Path leaped into action, positioning itself in front of Konan protectively. It was clear from their reactions just how much they cared for each other.
"Yo," Daniel greeted casually as he stepped into view. Despite his friendly tone, Nagato, Konan, and even the Deva Path stared at him with wary eyes.
"Spatial ninjutsu... I can't sense them," Nagato muttered, his Rinnegan narrowing as he tried to figure out what was going on.
"What?" Konan's expression darkened further. Though Nagato hadn't explained in detail, she understood his meaning—they were cut off from the other Six Paths.
"There's no need to be so tense. I'm not here to fight. I only brought you two here so we could have an uninterrupted chat," Daniel said with a smile, taking a few steps back to show he meant no harm.
Though Nagato and Konan remained on high alert, they chose to listen. Nagato's frail condition made him vulnerable, and Konan knew she couldn't risk a fight. Their priority was protecting each other—Konan wouldn't let Nagato get hurt, and Nagato wouldn't let Konan fall like Yahiko had.
The bond between them wasn't romantic but rooted in deep friendship. Konan's love had always been for Yahiko, not Nagato.
"So, what do you want to talk about?" Nagato asked, his voice calm but cautious. He and Konan both recognized that Daniel had some sort of time-space jutsu, and with Nagato's true body here, a fight wasn't ideal.
"Let's talk about Uchiha Madara," Daniel replied with a sly smile.
