Chapter 825 - 692: Underground Palace, Mysterious Tracks Prison
Chapter 825: Chapter 692: Underground Palace, Mysterious Tracks Prison
After receiving the tour permit for the Sealed City, Chu Mu had the authority to freely enter and exit the city.
Generally, the Sealed City is alternately guarded and patrolled by three major powers: The Soul Hall, Nightmare Demon Palace, and Soul Pet Palace. Due to a number of Soul Emperors being deployed in the war against the Demon Worms, the security of Immortal City has greatly weakened.
Of course, before entering the Immortal City, Chu Mu must first greet the World’s Contest Organizers as the method to open Immortal City is in their hands. The token Chu Mu carried only allowed him to enter and exit.
Although Chu Mu was on patrol, during his entry, the World Contest Organizers would assign two members to follow him as companions and prevent the possibility of pilferage.
What surprised Chu Mu was that one of the accompanying members was someone he had met a few times: the somewhat haughty Miss Shan in the purple robe.
“Buxom, plump and slender waist…” Upon seeing Miss Shan, Chu Mu’s mind inexplicably recalled Ye Wansheng’s six-word review of Miss Shan.
During the Fourth Realm when Chu Mu guarded the Boundary Gate, Ye Wansheng was also present. Having met the proud Miss Shan, he seemed to have pursued her for a while, but at that time, Ye Wansheng was really not her match. He could only sigh: such a delicate beauty is going to become someone else’s bedfellow, what a pity, what a pity…
When Miss Shan saw Chu Mu, she also seemed somewhat surprised. However, Chu Mu noticed a hint of a smile in her eyes for some reason.
“So it’s you, Chu Chen.” Miss Shan said with a smile.
Chu Mu just nodded, not saying anything more.
The other companion was Zhou Jinglong from the Soul Pet Palace. It was hard to tell whether he was twenty-seven or eight, or over thirty. Often, such an age gap would give people a visual misperception. Most of them are strong ones who have stepped into the Soul Emperor-level. Obviously, Zhou Jinglong was the one to supervise Chu Mu to prevent him from pilferage.
“So you are Chu Chen from the Soul Hall, indeed a combination of talent and good looks.” Zhou Jinglong seemed very enthusiastic, introducing himself and showing goodwill towards Chu Mu.
Talent and good looks? Chu Mu had a feeling that this phrase was used to describe women.
…
The Immortal City is opening. This time, Chu Mu didn’t have to enter it with his Soul Sense sealed. As a manager, Chu Mu had the right to know the specific location of the Immortal City.
“Surprised, aren’t you? Actually, Immortal City is right here at the place you first guarded.” Miss Shan glanced at Chu Mu and said indifferently.
“Yeah, I didn’t expect it. It seems that the legend is true, that the Boundary Gate will open during a lunar eclipse…” Chu Mu appropriately expressed his sentiment.
A grin of triumph flashed across Miss Shan’s face, but it soon returned to her usual proud demeanor.
Chu Mu didn’t notice Miss Shan’s expression, but he chuckled silently. He had known for a while that the Immortal City was here.
…
The dark sky hung over the decayed city, haunting it with an eerie aura. From time to time, lightning strikes would turn the entire city pale. Standing outside the city, one would get a chilling feeling.
A bizarre wind blew from the derelict city gate onto Chu Mu’s face, bringing with it the scent of death.
“It seems like there should be some undead creatures in the Immortal City, right?” Chu Mu mumbled to himself.
The birth of creatures from the Netherworld relies on this thick aura of death. The creatures that come alive after death, if one is not used to their existence, would indeed cause shivers down the spine.
“A few seals mysteriously broke before the end of their lifespans. The creatures sealed within could be hiding anywhere in the Immortal City. We need to find them and re-seal or kill them. Otherwise, they could inadvertently break other seals.” said Miss Shan.
“How strong are they?” Chu Mu asked.
“They are likely at the quasi-Emperor level,” responded Zhou Jinglong.
If creatures beyond Emperor level appeared, a Soul Emperor would undoubtedly need to take action. Zhou Jinglong, a Soul Emperor who only possesses one quasi-Emperor level Soul Pet, couldn’t possibly tackle several creatures that broke out of their seals by himself.
“Chu Chen, take this ring. It can sense some of the unstable seals in the Immortal City. That’s part of your patrolling job.” Miss Shan handed Chu Mu a ring adorned with a red gemstone.
Chu Mu put it on. Once Chu Mu had the ring on, Miss Shan explained, “The ring emits a light similar to sunlight. When a seal becomes unstable, this beam of light will point at the exact location. However, you need to use your Soul Sense to detect this beam of light. Give it a try now.”
Chu Mu slowly stretched out his hand and closed his eyes, covering his surroundings with his sense.
Truly, in the range of Chu Mu’s perception, there were a few very distinct rays of light, pointing in a certain direction. The intensity of the light differed.
“The brighter ones indicate large seals, while the dimmer ones indicate small seals. The brightest of the three seal rays you see now is from Xuan Zhen Zhe’s sealing array. The other two are relatively weaker, probably seals of Monarch level creatures, which we can disregard for now.” explained Miss Shan.
“This Xuan Zhen Zhe seems to be the main pet of a Soul Hall Master who committed a crime, it’s been imprisoned for about ten years now,” Zhou Jinglong added.
“If the seal was broken by some external force, then we just have to capture it and reseal it. But if it has escaped on its own, we’ll have to eliminate it on the spot. Should there be someone secretly sneaking into Immortal City to deliberately release creatures who have not yet served their full sentences, that person must be severely punished.” Miss Shan said.
As she spoke, Miss Shan glanced at Chu Mu, as if her last statement was specifically intended for him.
Chu Mu understood Miss Shan’s intention. It was clear that she wanted to bring up old matters, specifically the incident of him unsealing and releasing the Collapsing Wind Dragon.
Back then, the Sky Listener had already known that Chu Mu had released the Collapsing Wind Dragon. However, in order to get what he wanted, he didn’t bother to probe this small matter. After all, the Peak Monarch-level Collapsing Wind Dragon was no threat to the Sky Listener, so he had let the matter rest.
But Miss Shan was being crafty at this moment, for reasons unknown.
Immortal City is vast. The ring can only locate unstable barriers and cannot find the creatures that have already escaped from the seals.
After a whole day of searching, Chu Mu and the others only found a few escaped creatures at the Soul Lord level. They never once spotted the Xuan Zhen Zhe mentioned in the intelligence.
“It seems we need to send a few scout Soul Pet Masters here. We don’t dare to fly within Immortal City. Searching like this is like finding a needle in a haystack.” Zhou Jinglong said.
Miss Shan and Zhou Jinglong naturally took up the task of locating the scout Soul Pet Masters, while Chu Mu returned to the Soul Hall.
…
“How did your investigation go?” Liu Binglan asked Chu Mu upon his return.
“We only dealt with a few escaped creatures at the Peak Monarch level. We never saw the Emperor-level Xuan Zhen Zhe.” replied Chu Mu.
“Xuan Zhen Zhe?” Liu Binglan furrowed her brows, seeming pensive. “I think that Xuan Zhen Zhe was imprisoned by your grandfather. It was the main pet of Zhang Siyuan, the former palace master from ten years ago.”
“Is there anything special about that person?” Chu Mu found it strange seeing Liu Binglan’s serious expression.
“There’s nothing particularly special about him per se, except that the Holy Guard in charge of the Mysterious Tracks Prison recently informed me that Zhang Siyuan’s strength had broken through and he managed to escape from the prison. This situation seems rather odd.” said Liu Binglan.
“Could Zhang Siyuan be the one who released Xuan Zhen Zhe?” Chu Mu asked.
“It’s a possibility. This matter needs to be investigated thoroughly…” Liu Binglan mused, wondering who should handle this case. Most Soul Emperor-level members of the Hall were occupied with their own tasks, and it didn’t seem appropriate to assign individuals at the Soul Lord level to deal with Zhang Siyuan, a Soul Emperor.
“I guess I should make a trip to the Mysterious Tracks Prison myself. Since I’ve taken up the task, I might as well follow through.” Chu Mu, realizing that Liu Binglan was short of manpower, offered.
“Alright, I’ll have Zhuo Nong lead you to the Mysterious Tracks Prison tomorrow, to investigate the specifics of her escape.” Liu Binglan responded.
Chu Mu nodded. He had never been to the Mysterious Tracks Prison before and wondered what kind of individuals were incarcerated there.
There are two major prisons in the realm. One is Immortal City, and the other is the Mysterious Tracks Prison.
The distinction being that Immortal City is used to detain Soul Pets.
The Mysterious Tracks Prison, on the other hand, incarcerates Soul Pet Masters who have committed crimes.
The soul pets of prisoners in the Mysterious Tracks Prison are either sentenced to death or sealed in Immortal City. Many times, if they escape before serving their full term, the escaped prisoners are nearly reduced to a useless state, as their soul pets are sealed away in Immortal City and their souls are constantly occupied, which prevents them from summoning any soul pets.
While Miss Shan and Zhou Jinglong continue to investigate the whereabouts of Xuan Zhen Zhe in Immortal City, Chu Mu, led by the Holy Guard Leader Zhuo Nong, is headed to another highly unique space – the Mysterious Tracks Prison!
…
Sure enough, much like Chu Mu had imagined, the Mysterious Tracks Prison, similar to the Holy Territory of the Soul Hall, Immortal City, and many other special domains, is a completely independent space.
The Mysterious Tracks Prison is located underneath the Soul Pet Palace. Upon entering the Palace, a Palace Master-level individual led Chu Mu and Zhuo Nong into a rigorously guarded stone palace.
The stone palace features a spacious hall with no furnishings, save for a staircase in the middle stretching gently downwards into the darkness below.
Continuing down the staircase, Chu Mu had no idea how deep he had ventured beneath the surface of the World City.
Gradually, an underground hall appeared underneath the stairs; it was identical to the stone palace hall above. This hall was not empty, but rather was adorned with a multitude of solemn stone sculptures.
Between the rows of statues, there runs a road wide enough for one person. At the end of the road stands a giant stone door, much like the gate of the Holy Territory!!
However, what made Chu Mu shudder was that this gigantic stone door was intertwined with several thick chains, making the entire door less reminiscent of something ancient and more suggestive of a forboding presence!
