Chapter 731: Setback

With the plans set and roles shared between everyone present, the group got to work.

All the refugees were also tasked with helping to build the Kingdom. Naturally, they willingly obeyed, as they felt this was the only way to repay the Cromwell family for saving them during the demonic war.

Nox stood on the wall, watching the sea of people and ants alike carrying out menial tasks. The walls of the barony were being destroyed.

Thanks to Mountain Strength, it was fairly easy to dismantle the walls surrounding the small town. The rocks from the wall were then transported away by the ants to another site, where the new wall was being built.

The first few days were disorganized, and Nox had to personally oversee everything himself.

To be honest, it was a bit more stressful than he had anticipated, but he was determined to see his vision become a reality.

This city was not only a place to call home but would also become the home of future beast tamers.

At the same time, with the help of thousands of ants, tunnels were being built throughout the mountain to create easier access between the port city and Cromwell Barony.

Aina, Wendy, Serena, and even Nyx—who later decided to tag along—had already sketched out the plan of the city. Now it was merely left for the ants and builders to bring it to fruition.

By sheer stroke of luck, there were more than a thousand builders among the survivors.

Thanks to their Builder Class, it was relatively easy for them to construct new roads, walls, and other structures.

Furthermore, the earthen dragons were also a huge help.

With their ability to manipulate the earth, they made the work several times easier and faster for the humans.

"The operation is going very smoothly, much smoother than I expected," Nathan commented one evening.

"True, it seems most of the monsters have fled because of the war," Hans replied.

To Nathan's dismay, he hadn't found any bandits in the Luminary Forest. Either they were now part of the survivors, or they had resisted against the demons and were killed during the war.

Regardless, thanks to this situation, the city building progressed unhindered.

Inside the large tent, Nox spread out a map, and on it at least nine territories were shown, excluding the capital Crownhold and Lumina Bay.

These nine territories had once been the baronies of the western region.

Initially, including the Cromwell Barony, there had been ten towns.

Inside the tent, only Skully and Eve were present. They were the only ones who didn't yet have roles.

All the other key members of the group were already handling tasks.

Although all these towns had suffered attacks from the demon race, they were still salvageable.

"Your job will be to fix the broken walls, expand the roads, and rebuild the homes in these towns," Nox explained. "So that the survivors from these places can return."

One might wonder why Gabriel had asked Eve to be part of this… well, the reason was pretty simple.

She had over a hundred thousand undead under her control. Though a couple of thousand had been lost in the war, the remaining force was still no small number.

These undead weren't only useful for battle or acting as cannon fodder; they could also serve as tireless workers.

Eve seemed to have realized this herself and nodded in understanding.

With the undead's tireless nature, she could easily handle the nine towns. And there was no rush.

"I understand," she said. The next day, at first light, she headed out to complete the task.

Eight weeks later, the new wall enclosing the capital city was built; it was three times the width and length of its previous one.

Furthermore, the neighboring towns had also been rebuilt.

By this time, the citizens of those towns were moving back to their hometowns after months of being away. The joy on their faces was infectious.

The western region felt alive once more.

The capital walls and tunnels were all completed. However, the only thing still taking longer to finish was the sea wall, which was understandable because it was being built up from the ground—unlike the other plains.

The hardest part was the sea wall. Fixing roads or stacking stones was easy compared to reshaping the shore itself. It required patience, teamwork, and the help of everyone—humans, ants, and dragons.

Nox checked the site every day. The earth dragons pressed the foundations deep under the waves. Ants carried boulders nonstop, forming lines that never seemed to end. Builders worked in shifts, guided by the drawings. Even so, the ocean fought back, and progress was slow.

"Don't force it," Aina told him one evening as they walked along the temporary dock. "Walls, roads, tunnels—we've done so much already. The sea wall will take time. A kingdom isn't built in a single season."

She was right… a kingdom wasn't built in a single season.

No matter how fast he tried to rush things, the sea would not bend to his will. He sighed, gripping the railing of the dock as waves slapped against the wooden supports. He had power, beasts, ants, and even the loyalty of thousands, but there were still limits.

Behind them, the city kept growing. Markets reopened, stalls filled with goods, laughter echoing through the streets. The sound of hammers and saws became part of daily life. Farmland was cleared, crops planted, and livestock filled the pens. For the first time since the war, people weren't just surviving anymore. They were living.

Nox's days quickly fell into rhythm. Mornings began with inspecting the walls and tunnels, afternoons were spent in council with Nathan and the elders, and evenings often ended with long discussions inside the large tent. Everyone had a role, and though it was exhausting, progress was visible.

And just like that, weeks turned into months, and the western region slowly transformed into a kingdom of its own.
