Chapter 651: Selecting a Crown Beast
Nox walked calmly within the ant nest and couldn't help but admire what he was seeing. The worker ants and drone ants worked in sync with no conflict.
They all minded their business like some robots in a factory back on Earth.
They seemed to be digging deeper to extend their home. With a quick scan of his eyes, Nox could tell the ants were over 5,000 in number.
"No wonder they were able to hold back the demons," Nox mumbled to himself as he continued walking, with the Ant Queen behind him.
The Ant King was currently away with Aina and the others, making plans to tackle the demons who were building tunnels right under them. They thought they were being sneaky, unaware that an elite force was already out for them.
"These are not all of them," the Ant Queen suddenly said from behind.
"Where are they?" Nox asked curiously.
"This way," she motioned to Nox.
After walking through tunnels and descending a staircase, Nox arrived before a door.
For some reason, the Ant Queen hesitated for a while before pushing the door open, revealing a grand chamber with towering ceilings. Nox wondered how long the ants had taken to build a place like this. It was definitely not within the last month.
Bzzzzz bzzzzz
The chamber was wide, almost as huge as a soccer field, and the ceiling was over 30 meters in height.
What was more, Nox could make out the outlines of several flying creatures in the distance, buzzing through the air.
"Are those…" He narrowed his eyes as he saw the creatures clearly. They were humanoid ants with black stripes.
They looked very similar to the black-carapaced Ant King. Furthermore, they radiated a powerful presence far more intense than the normal worker ants back in the tunnels.
"Yes, they inherited their father's traits," the Ant Queen nodded with a smile on her face. "They're much stronger and faster. At birth, they were already Emperor Tier, Level 1."
"Emperor-tier already? Damn," Nox muttered after using his Analyze skill to confirm their levels. Their potential evolution paths hinted at even greater power, with possible mutations into Aerial Commanders or something even more.
These weren't just soldiers—they were a game-changer for the upcoming battle against the demons.
The Ant Queen stood beside him, her compound eyes reflecting pride as she observed her offspring. "Yes, I like to call them the Special Unit."
"This…" Nox was at a loss for words. "How many are there?"
"About 600," she said with a subtle curve of her mandibles. "I was planning to use them as a last resort if the Awakened failed to hold back the demons."
"Good job," Nox praised with a faint smile on his face as he watched the mini Ant Kings fly around. "You've really outdone yourself this time."
"Thank you, Master," replied the Ant Queen with a proud smile on her face. Despite still being a Monarch, the Ant Queen still lived for validation from her Master.
"Assemble them," commanded Nox.
The Ant Queen nodded and made a shrieking noise, and almost instantly, the humanoid ant drones turned their heads downward. Their compound eyes glinted with recognition as they slowly descended.
The ants landed softly before the Ant Queen one after the other. They appeared more like soldiers than offspring.
They stared at Nox, their eyes shining with curiosity as they seemed to discern him. Strangely enough, they felt a connection with him—as if he held similar standing to the Ant Queen.
Nox inspected the ants one after the other, and after seeing their strong builds, his eyes glinted with joy.
'Taming her back in that dimension was one of the best decisions I ever made,' he chuckled.
Now, not only did he possess a dragon army and dozens of support Scourge Dragons, he also had an army of elite ants—excluding his over 5,000 worker ants.
Nox felt truly grateful to the Ant Queen for all she had done. Deep down, he knew it was her duty as his pet, but still, he felt indebted.
Although he might sound biased, without a doubt, the person who had helped him the most was the Ant Queen.
"Don't mention it, Master," she said, her voice carrying a rare tone of warmth. "You've helped me more than you think. From moving me out of the Demon Realm, to providing a mineral-rich nest—my children and I thrive because of you. If there should be anyone thanking anyone, it should be me."
She dipped her head again, her carapace glinting as she made a deeper bow. The special units behind her shifted slightly, their compound eyes fixed on Nox, as if sensing the weight of the moment.
"No," Nox said firmly, stepping closer. "It's not supposed to be like that. You're not just a pet or a tool. You're…" He hesitated, searching for the right words. "You're the backbone of everything I've built here."
"I'm glad to have been of help, but I still think the one who needs to be grateful is me, Master. Even though you didn't get along with my husband, you listened to my pleas and let him be."
Nox shook his head, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "You're too humble. You've done more than just follow orders. You've built an army, maintained order, and given me a foundation to stand on in this war."
His mind drifted back to everything the Ant Queen had done. Even during the Beast Tide, they had been a great help—and even more so now, in this Demonic Invasion.
Apart from that, Nox had learned that they acted as a policing force, stopped disputes, and even cleaned up the town, maintaining order. Even without his help, they had won the hearts of the citizens of the Cromwell Barony, effortlessly blending into society.
And now, this hidden force of 600 special units, kept in reserve as a last resort—she had planned for every contingency.
Nox's thoughts turned to the Crown Beast slot, still unassigned. He had been deliberating for days, weighing between Fluffington, Thirteen, and Astralux's Solora. Each was a worthy candidate, but as he stood here, surrounded by the Ant Queen's legacy, the choice became clear. None had contributed as much—or as consistently—as she had.
There was a moment of silence.
Nox's heart beat faster as the decision solidified. He turned to the Ant Queen.
"You've been with me through every trial," he said, voice filled with conviction. "From the Demon Realm to the Beast Tide, to this moment. You've given me an army, a home, and a chance to win this war. There's no one more deserving."
The Ant Queen tilted her head, her antennae quivering as if sensing something monumental. The special units behind her stood motionless, their eyes glinting with curiosity.
Nox took a deep breath, his gaze locked on hers. "I've made my choice. I want you to be my Crown Beast."
