Suppressing the Protagonist at the Start to Seize the Heroine

Chapter 266

Chapter 266: Discovering Clues

When Liu Shiwen saw the Ragdoll cat, she felt her heart melt. The Ragdoll, known as the princess among cats, truly lives up to its name. The cat, dragging its two injured legs, meowed pitifully.

“How adorable this kitty is, and it seems to be hurt,” Liu Shiwen remarked, quickly approaching the Ragdoll cat and then squatting down to cradle and examine it.

“Brother, the cat’s legs are broken,” she said.

Liu Bowen knew his sister very well, given the affluent and protective environment of their family. Although Liu Shiwen carried herself with a princess’s delicate airs, her love for small animals was boundless.

“Shiwen, this cat has such beautiful markings, it obviously has an owner, you should put it down,” he suggested.

Liu Shiwen shook her head, “No, it’s hurt, I need to take care of its wounds.”

Liu Bowen frowned. His sister was wonderful in many ways, but sometimes she struggled to prioritize.

“Shiwen, remember we still need to visit our great-uncles. Treating its wounds isn’t urgent. Let’s go meet them first, and later I can take you to a pet store,” he suggested.

Liu Shiwen stood up, still holding the Ragdoll cat, “It’s okay, brother, our great-uncles won’t mind.”

“Uh… you want to take the cat to see our great-uncles?” Liu Bowen asked.

Liu Shiwen nodded. Just as she was about to speak, another voice echoed from around the corner.

“Xiao Bai… Xiao Bai, where are you?”

“Xiao Bai…”

Xiao Feiyu came around the corner, and upon seeing Liu Shiwen holding the Ragdoll cat, his eyes lit up with surprise: “Xiao Bai! How did you get to… Eh… Mr. Liu, Miss Liu, what brings you here?”

Instead of answering Xiao Feiyu’s question, Liu Shiwen asked, “Xiao Feiyu, is this your cat?”

Xiao Feiyu nodded, “Yes, her name is Xiao Bai.”

Then he stepped forward, “Thank you for finding Xiao Bai. Could you give her back to me?”

Liu Shiwen, somewhat angrily, said, “It’s your cat; why did you let it get so severely injured? Both its back legs are broken.”

“What… Xiao Bai is injured?” Xiao Feiyu’s face paled.

Liu Bowen and Liu Binsheng exchanged glances, both of them looking skeptically at Xiao Feiyu. Especially Liu Bowen, who watched Xiao Feiyu warily. Theoretically, their visit here was spontaneous, so there was no way Xiao Feiyu could have planned this.

But Liu Bowen, experienced in various schemes, was no fool. There are too many coincidences in the world. This situation seemed coincidental, but to him, it appeared to be meticulously planned.

He cast a meaningful glance at Xiao Feiyu. This guy’s schemes ran deep. Wang Yannian had been matchmaking for him, and the family had said that as long as Liu Shiwen agreed, it would be no problem.

Thus, Xiao Feiyu had shifted his focus to Liu Shiwen. Although Xiao Feiyu was behaving properly and politely now, Liu Bowen knew well that this guy had been playing the part of the lovelorn for many years, and the current scene was surely an act.

Children of major families were indeed no easy targets. He stepped forward to interrupt their conversation; “Shiwen, we still need to visit our great-uncles. We can chat another time.”

“Ah! Brother… what are you saying?”

“I’m saying that if you want to chat and exchange experiences, there will be other opportunities. Let’s first visit our great-uncles.”

Before Liu Shiwen could respond, Liu Bowen pulled her away.

Liu Shiwen reluctantly said, “Xiao Feiyu, which building are you in? I’ll come check on Xiao Bai later.”

Xiao Feiyu flashed a toothy smile, “I’m in the second building on the left. I’m taking Xiao Bai to the vet now; you can come by later.”

“Okay…”

Liu Bowen quickly pulled Liu Shiwen away, and soon the three of them had disappeared from Xiao Feiyu’s view.

“Brother… why are you pulling me so quickly?”

Liu Bowen looked at Liu Shiwen, “Shiwen, where is your usual cleverness? Can’t you see Xiao Feiyu is deliberately approaching you and trying to play you?”

“But brother, there can’t be that many schemes.”

“We decided to come here on the spur of the moment, and Xiao Bai just happened to appear!”

“Xiao Feiyu didn’t know we were going out now, how could he be scheming?”

Liu Bowen shook his head, “You’re too naive. One day, you’ll be sold off and still be counting money for others.”

Liu Shiwen smiled broadly, “Being sold? How could that happen, who would dare to sell me?”

Liu Binsheng intervened, “Shiwen, you should listen to your brother. I think Xiao Feiyu has ulterior motives.”

“Uncle Sheng, I admit Xiao Feiyu deliberately approached me, wanting to… to form a marital alliance with our family, but today I really believe it was a coincidence.”

“Alright, if it’s a coincidence, then it’s a coincidence. Here we are, Uncle Sheng, please knock on the door.”

Liu Binsheng nodded, then stood at the door, releasing the aura of a grandmaster. Seconds later, Wang Yannian stood at the door to greet them.

Xiao Feiyu had seen everything, but he chose not to mention it. To speak now would mean burning bridges.

And he was currently arranging a marital alliance between the Liu and Xiao families, so he certainly wouldn’t volunteer any detrimental information.

“Ah… Mr. Wang, what are you doing here?”

Wang Yannian smiled lightly, “You come to knock on this door, and you don’t know I’m here?”

“Uh… We came to see our great-uncles.”

“Your great-uncles are out on business.”

“Mr. Wang, do you know when they will be back?” Liu Bowen asked under pressure. Wang Yannian, standing before him, looked like an ordinary old farmer, but his penetrating gaze made Liu Bowen feel a great deal of pressure. If it weren’t for Liu Binsheng standing behind him, he felt he wouldn’t even dare to speak.

Wang Yannian shook his head and said, “I’m not sure when they will return, probably after they finish their business.”

“Oh! I’m sorry for the disturbance, I’ll come to visit again when our great-uncles are back.” Wang Yannian nodded and then closed the door.

Seeing this, Liu Shiwen quickly said, “Brother, Uncle Sheng, you go home first, I’m going to check on Xiao Bai.”

“Come back, Xiao Feiyu has taken Xiao Bai to the pet hospital.”

Liu Shiwen gave a faint smile, “He just left and didn’t drive! He couldn’t have gone far.”

“He didn’t drive?” Liu Bowen repeated these words, then his face turned an ashen hue; “Exactly!!!”

Hearing this, Liu Binsheng suggested, “Shouldn’t we clarify things with Shiwen?”

Liu Bowen thought for a moment and then shook his head, “No need for now, Uncle Sheng, please go check when Xiao Feiyu bought that cat; I think there’s definitely something fishy going on.”

“Alright, I’ll go right away.” Liu Binsheng responded, his expression darkening.

Xiao Feiyu’s scheming had infuriated them all, especially Liu Bowen. It would have been fine if Xiao Feiyu had genuinely pursued Liu Shiwen, but his playing games enraged them.

“Hmph… My Liu family’s daughter is not so easily deceived.”
