Chapter 156: Secret Assessment
After studying the talismans, Robert turned his attention to Pietro, Lorna, and Barry Allen, deducing that since it wasn't the talismans causing anomalies, it must be something unusual about the three of them.
"Could you show me your abilities again?" With this thought, Robert looked at the trio and asked.
"I'll go first! I'll go first!" Lorna pushed Pietro aside, glanced at Kara beside her, and provocatively spoke again.
With a buzz, as Lorna's words fell, an invisible force released from her body. This force, somewhat similar to levitation but also different, seemed to control the surrounding objects in a peculiar way, not just making them float.
Robert felt this ability was somewhat akin to telekinesis, or at least, the effect seemed similar, being able to control the surroundings, even releasing telekinetic shockwaves...
With a swoosh, Lorna, showcasing her ability, launched a telekinesis-like shockwave. Glancing at Kara with a challenging look, she wanted to test the gap between them, so she directly aimed the shockwave at Kara.
Kara dodged swiftly; she had been watching Lorna closely, so she wasn't caught off guard. Seizing this opportunity, Kara was ready to teach Lorna a lesson.
"This is what you asked for!" Kara looked at Lorna with a cold snort, a smirk appearing on her lips as she dashed towards Lorna.
"Is the gap this big?" Surprise flashed in Lorna's eyes as she saw a blur charging at her. Alarmed, she yelled, "Whoa! Don't come any closer, I was just joking..."
Despite her words, Lorna's actions were quick; she first tried to repel Kara, then controlled objects around her to hurl at Kara.
Kara, facing the incoming dirty and unknown objects, frowned slightly. These objects couldn't harm her, but she didn't want them tarnishing her image.
Therefore, Kara's figure flashed, showcasing her true speed to dodge everything, including Lorna's repulsion force, reaching Lorna in no time.
Initially, Pietro and Barry Allen, during Robert and the Martian Hunter's battle, thought their abilities were merely passive compared to Robert and the Martian Hunter.
Now, witnessing Kara's speed, they were dismayed to find her vastly surpassing them.
At this moment, Kara had already caught the boastful Lorna, ready to teach her a lesson.
"Alright, Kara, stop bullying the kid..." Robert shook his head, stopping Kara's action, "Help observe the differences in their speed abilities compared to ours!"
"Hmph! Right, I won't argue with kids!" Kara, stopped by Robert, didn't get angry but rather smirked, taunting Lorna, "But if the kid doesn't learn, don't blame me for not being nice!"
Releasing a slightly disgruntled Lorna, Pietro quickly stepped in to ease the tension, "It's our turn, let's go together! We've discovered our abilities are somewhat different, let's test them out!"
Pietro's words were directed at Barry Allen, both awakened to similar superpowers due to a rabbit talisman, eager to compare their strengths.
With two swooshes, Pietro and Barry Allen turned into blurs, rushing out with comparable speeds, but Robert sensed their powers were indeed different.
Although their speeds appeared similar, their essence was not, akin to Clark and the Martian Hunter possessing heat vision but based on different principles.
Moreover, as Barry Allen and Pietro rushed out, Robert noticed Pietro emitting a faint silver energy aiding his sprint.
Barry Allen, on the other hand, didn't show such power; he seemed to enter a unique state, accelerating in that mode.
After observing, Robert and Kara didn't find the reason for their activated superpowers but noticed their shortcomings.
Unlike the versatile use of talismans, the trio's newly developed abilities were rudimentary, far from achieving the talismans' command.
Robert advised them to familiarize themselves with their powers, suggesting they could also train with Peter Parker.
Initially, Robert considered training with them but felt their superpowers didn't synergize well with his; Peter Parker could be considered a warrior, while Barry Allen and the others were more specialized ability users.
Hearing Robert's advice, Kara's mood improved, smugly glancing at Lorna, their gazes sparking rivalry.
Kara, intending to follow Robert to find Jackie Chan, stayed to "teach" Lorna and the others, subtly provoking Lorna.
Barry Allen found this scenario familiar, a unique form of offense and defense.
Meanwhile, Robert quickly visited the antique shop, handing two talismans to Jackie Chan, who had news for Robert.
"I need to return to my country for a while. Dad said there's an important secret assessment waiting for me, and he wants me to try it."
"Not just me, Jade will also join. So, we won't be able to provide you with talisman intelligence for some time."
"But considering we've collected nine talismans, missing three shouldn't pose much trouble."
"An assessment?" Robert scratched his head, disappointed at the lack of talismans, making adventurous excursions or encountering powerful foes less feasible.
Robert wondered why Valron and the Saint hadn't made moves; couldn't they challenge the 13th District? Perhaps they had given up, or was the 13th District truly the safest place?
Unbeknownst to Robert, the Saint had fallen into slumber, Valron was still lurking, waiting for the right moment, and a power Robert once encountered was quietly awakening in the darkness.
