Chapter 149: Endless Enemies and Being Drained
Kara had seen the shadow ninjas before when Robert was researching talismans and knew they weren't infinite. If enough were killed, they would automatically retreat.
However, Kara had to admit that they had already killed many, yet the shadow ninjas continued to appear endlessly. Their strength wasn't too formidable; Kara found them merely troublesome but manageable.
"Or? You hand Robert over to me, and I'll fly away from the battlefield with him. You're strong, so you can clean up the surrounding shadow ninjas and see then?" Upon hearing Kara's words, Lana's eyes twinkled, and she looked at Kara with a hopeful smile.
"Hmph! Wishful thinking!" Kara glared at Lana, annoyed, "Do you think I don't know what you're thinking? Don't even think about it!"
Kara could easily guess Lana's thoughts; she figured Lana was curious about Robert, especially after his performance today, which exceeded her expectations. She wanted to get closer to Robert.
Kara somewhat regretted not taking the Chicken Talisman from Lana when she first saw it, along with stealing the Rabbit Talisman and leaving school. That way, this situation wouldn't have happened.
Even if Lana and Pietro continued to awaken their superpowers, it wouldn't be their concern, nor would it allow Lana and Pietro to witness Robert's exciting battle with the Martian Hunter, sparking Lana's curiosity.
Kara was confident she could surpass Lana in every aspect, regardless of whether Lana possessed the Chicken Talisman or gained superpowers after losing it. However, Kara also felt a sense of crisis, as her relationship with Robert wasn't officially established. To others, Kara and Robert appeared to be in a relationship, a notion Kara accepted, but if Lana and Robert interacted more, the truth might be revealed...
Kara couldn't let that happen! She must keep Lana away from Robert! Lana likely didn't expect her suggestion to make Kara think so much, leading the crisis-aware Kara to fly away with Robert, choosing to distance herself from Lana and kill the shadow ninjas from mid-air.
"Jeez! Why so cautious? I just wanted to check on a classmate..." Lana muttered discontentedly upon seeing Kara's alertness.
"Lana, if you have the time to care for a classmate, care for your brother and Peter Parker too. Using talisman power doesn't tire you, but we're not the same! We're really going to be exhausted if this continues," Pietro complained to Lana.
"Moreover, you can't anger Kara. Without her, we'd be in a bad spot against these endless enemies..."
"Just because you can talk!" Lana glared at Pietro, though she continued to control the shadow ninjas, making them collide with each other and using surrounding objects as weapons.
"Say, these shadow ninjas are after the talismans. If we throw the talismans away, will they leave?" Pietro sighed wearily, then looked at Lana and Barry Allen with a sudden idea.
"Why don't you throw the talismans away? You're not that interested in superpowers anyway, Lana. Plus, you might awaken your own superpowers after losing the talisman, like I did."
"Wishful thinking! I can't afford to lose its power right now!" Lana glared at Pietro, then glanced at Kara in the sky, "No matter how many enemies there are, I'll never hand over the talisman!"
"That's not up to you..." Kara smirked, mocking, "Even after dealing with these shadow ninjas, the talismans can't stay with you. Robert has already handled many talisman incidents; they all need to be taken away..."
"There are more talismans? And Robert needs to take them away?" Lana and Barry Allen looked at Kara incredulously.
"There are twelve talismans, symbolizing the Chinese zodiac, each with different powers. And the lucky ones aren't just you..." Kara shared the information she learned from Robert.
"So, after dealing with these shadow ninjas, you'll need to hand the talismans to me, unless you want to be constantly harassed by such enemies..."
"Of course, some wanted to keep the talismans, but unfortunately, their home was completely demolished, leaving them homeless. In the end, they had to ask Robert to take the talismans."
"Robert is that cool?" Lana's comment darkened Kara's expression.
"The house got demolished? Hmm... I guess I should hand over the talisman then!" Barry Allen shrank back, muttering after hearing Kara's words.
"Hey, hey, hey! Did you forget the talisman was originally mine? If anyone's handing it over, it should be me..." Pietro reminded Barry Allen, not amused.
"Hey! We've all fought together; why fuss over these details?" Barry Allen smiled sheepishly, softly speaking.
"Cut it out! If you get something similar later, would you share it with me?" Pietro questioned skeptically.
"Of course!" Barry Allen looked earnestly into Pietro's eyes, firmly saying.
"Alright, I believe you!" Pietro was persuaded by Barry Allen's sincere gaze, nodding in agreement, "From now on, we're comrades in arms."
"Hey, hey, hey! You two guys don't need to have such a passionate gaze here! Come help me out..." Peter Parker, the most exhausted in the fight, not Pietro, who had just awakened his superpowers, but Peter Parker, called out.
Robert had once been curious about what Peter Parker consumed when shooting webs and if there was a limit to it. At the time, Kara blushed and ran off, while Peter Parker scratched his head, not sure of his own limits...
But now, Peter Parker felt he was nearing his limit! He was about to be drained!
