Chapter 12: chapter 12
The Henry family.
After seeing off the admissions officers from Chicago University, the Henry family trio returned home, staring in silence at the admission letter on the table.
After a long while, Eowyn was the first to break the silence.
"That girl still has a conscience!"
Mark's expression darkened. He spoke in a deep voice, "She might have a conscience, but she's doing something that could turn out badly!"
"What do you mean?" Eowyn asked, confused. "Didn't we hear that all extraordinary academies have stopped accepting students with useless talents? Now that a prestigious school like Chicago University has admitted our son, isn't that a good thing?"
Mark's expression turned even grimmer.
Seeing that his wife still hadn't grasped the problem, he said, "Think about it. Chicago University is a top-tier school. Based on their standards, aren't all the students there highly talented?"
"Yes! But what's wrong with that…?"
As she spoke, Eowyn's face suddenly changed.
She was a smart woman, and after her husband's reminder, she immediately saw the issue.
"Are you saying that once Ben enters Chicago University, no one will want to team up with him?"
Mark nodded, his expression growing even more unsightly. "Exactly. They're all geniuses, the pride of North America. Why would they want to team up with someone who has a useless talent? When the time comes, this brat will be forced into the Spirit Realm alone!"
Eowyn's face instantly turned pale.
The Spirit Realm was no longer a secret.
She had heard about its dangers.
In a team, members could support each other. But if someone entered alone, the risk would multiply.
People needed to sleep.
Some Spirit Realms lasted for a long time. Inside, even eating, drinking, and relieving oneself drained energy. Without teammates, how could someone last?
What if something attacked while he was asleep?
If Ben had a one-in-ten chance of survival before, now it was practically zero.
Thinking of this, Eowyn became anxious.
"Mark, what do we do?!"
Mark didn't answer.
Because he didn't know what to do either.
Suddenly, Eowyn seemed to think of something. She immediately said, "Why don't we have that girl from the Robert family team up with our son? She should protect him! Our foolish boy even gave her the Flare-Flare Fruit. It's not too much to ask her to return the favor!"
"What are you thinking?" Mark scoffed. "Do you think everyone is as naive as this brat?"
Ben: "…"
I feel offended.
"Why would she give up her future just to protect him?" Mark continued. "Even if Natasha wanted to help, President Robert would never allow it!"
"Why not? That Flare-Flare Fruit originally belonged to my son!" Eowyn protested. "He gave her such a valuable thing—why can't she protect him?"
"Because President Robert is powerful enough to silence our entire family with a single word!"
His words were blunt but true.
Mark sighed and said, "If we have to blame someone, it's Ben for being too naive—giving away rare treasures without asking for anything in return!"
Hearing this, Eowyn couldn't hold back any longer. She stormed over to her son and lightly slapped his arm a few times.
"Why are you so stupid?! You actually believe in dreams? What are we going to do now…?"
After only a few slaps, Eowyn burst into tears.
Seeing his mother like this, Ben felt uncomfortable.
Although he was confident that in a month, even if he entered the Spirit Realm alone, he could defeat any monster—
No one would believe him if he said that!
His parents would probably think he was crazy!
Ben could only remain silent.
He was deeply touched by their concern, but he also felt overwhelmed…
"Then let's not send him!" Eowyn wiped her tears and stubbornly said, "Who cares about Chicago University? We don't need it! And we don't need the Robert family's fake kindness either!"
Mark shook his head. "He still has to go. Chicago University has top-tier teachers and resources. If he's lucky, he might learn something valuable and improve his survival chances in the Spirit Realm."
"Even if he doesn't go, with his fused talent, he won't find a teammate even if we offer money. The result will be the same."
After a pause, Mark glanced at the time and suddenly said, "Not only does he have to go, but he has to leave tonight!"
He turned to Ben and said sternly, "Buy a ticket. Get one for tonight. Pack your things. I'll take you to the train station later."
"No!" Eowyn immediately objected. "Why are you rushing him away? Ben, don't listen to him. Stay home a few more days! Go to school at the last possible moment!"
She was afraid that once he left, she would never see him again…
Mark looked at his wife's desperate gaze. He felt a pang in his heart, but he gritted his teeth and said, "You know Grandpa's temper. If he comes back from the hospital, this brat will get a beating. Do you want to see that?"
Only then did Eowyn understand his reasoning.
She wasn't stupid.
She had just been too worried today, which had clouded her judgment.
"Son! Your life is so hard…"
Eowyn hugged Ben and cried loudly.
Mom!
I don't think my life is hard…
Looking at his mother's sorrowful expression, Ben felt a pang of guilt.
Thinking about it, he had caused this entire situation himself.
"Mom, don't worry! I'll be fine. I promise, I will definitely come back safely!"
He spoke with conviction.
Even though he hadn't been in this world for a full day, he already truly loved his parents.
Mark didn't say anything more. He patted Ben's shoulder and drove away.
Watching his father leave, Ben passed through security and entered the station.
There were still about thirty minutes before departure.
He casually found a seat and sat down, taking out his phone to pass the time.
Smartphones existed in this world as well, even more advanced than those on Earth.
Ben was using a mainstream model with excellent performance—no lag while browsing the internet.
When he opened a news website, his eyes immediately narrowed.
"Is it true love? Even the Flare-Flare Fruit can be given away willingly."
This eye-catching headline was currently ranked number one on the national trending news list!
