Chapter 15: Team mode

Secretly Watching

Hidden in the shadows of a nearby building, Kakashi crouched on a rooftop, his chin resting on his hand as he watched the young trio walk away. Hobbies and dreams? Hmph. This team might be more interesting than I thought. Should I follow them?

After a moment of consideration, he shrugged. Nah. I'll let them surprise me tomorrow.

He reached into his ninja pouch and pulled out a well-worn copy of Make-Out Paradise. Besides, this is way more entertaining.

Kakashi flipped open the book and began reading as he strolled away, completely ignoring the group of students lying battered on the ground. In a world where life and death were commonplace, a little scuffle was just a spice to liven up an otherwise dull day.

In the Forest Near the Ninja Academy

Naruto, Sasuke, and Hinata had found a quiet spot in the dense forest to discuss their strategy for the upcoming survival exercise.

Naruto: "Alright, you've already seen one of my specialties—the Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu."

He formed a hand seal, and ten shadow clones appeared around him.

Naruto: "This technique is great for reconnaissance, relaying information, and combat. With my current chakra reserves, I can create up to 800 clones without sacrificing too much combat power. Any more than that, and the clones become too weak to be effective."

Actually, 800 is a conservative estimate, Naruto thought. If I hadn't lost half my soul power after merging with Kurama's Yang attribute, I could probably make even more.

The thought of losing half his soul power still made him wince.

Hinata: "Eight hundred clones? And they're all physical clones?"

Naruto: "Yeah. Hinata, you can use your Byakugan to check. If I distribute my chakra evenly among the clones, I won't even have enough left to close my eyes."

Hinata activated her Byakugan, her veins bulging around her eyes as she observed Naruto and his clones.

Hinata: "I can't tell the difference between the original and the clones! The clones even have chakra pathways!"

Naruto: "Yep. This jutsu can also be combined with transformation techniques. With these three jutsu—shadow clones, transformation, and substitution—I can hold my own in a fight. But I know I'm still weak, so I'll keep training to get stronger."

If I'm being honest, Naruto thought, I could add two more techniques to my arsenal: the Harem Jutsu and the Reverse Harem Jutsu.

Wait… if shadow clones are physical, could I use transformation to turn them into actual women?

Naruto's mind began to wander into dangerous territory. No, no, no. Focus, Naruto!

He shook his head, trying to clear the inappropriate thoughts.

Hinata: "Naruto-kun, you're already amazing…"

Naruto: "Thanks, Hinata. But let's move on. Your turn to introduce yourself."

Hinata: "My Byakugan gives me a near-360-degree field of vision with no blind spots. In a single direction, I can see up to a kilometer. I can also see chakra pathways, which, combined with the Hyuga clan's Gentle Fist style, allows me to target an enemy's chakra points and disrupt their techniques."

She hesitated for a moment. "I'm currently practicing the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms, but I haven't mastered it yet."

Naruto nodded, then turned to Sasuke. "Your turn."

Sasuke hesitated briefly. He and Naruto had already exchanged blows the day before, so there wasn't much to hide.

Sasuke: "I specialize in taijutsu and ninjutsu. I've awakened my Sharingan, but it's only at the single tomoe stage, so its abilities are limited compared to the Byakugan. I know a few basic genjutsu, but they're mostly for minor mental interference. My strongest ninjutsu is the Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique."

Hinata: "Sasuke-kun, you're amazing!"

Sasuke: "Not really. My Sharingan is still far weaker than your Byakugan."

Naruto: "Alright, enough with the compliments. Let's spar a bit to get a feel for each other's abilities. How about we draw lots to decide who fights who?"

Sasuke: "I want to challenge Hinata. I'm curious about the Hyuga clan's Gentle Fist and Byakugan."

Naruto glanced at Hinata, who nodded nervously.

Hinata: "I-I'll do my best…"

Naruto: "Hinata, believe in yourself. You're stronger than you think."

Hinata clenched her fists, determination flickering in her eyes. "Okay!"

The Sparring Match

Sasuke and Hinata faced off, both opting for hand-to-hand combat. Hinata's defensive movements were fluid, her Byakugan allowing her to anticipate Sasuke's attacks. However, she rarely initiated an offensive, focusing more on evasion and counterattacks.

Naruto watched intently. Hinata's not weak—she's just too hesitant to attack. I need to help her build confidence.

After a few minutes, Sasuke stepped back, ending the spar.

Naruto: "So, what do you think?"

Sasuke: "She's wasting her potential. Those eyes are incredible, but she's holding back."

Hinata lowered her head, biting her lip.

Naruto: "Cut her some slack. Hinata's kind-hearted—she doesn't want to hurt anyone. If she went all out, you'd be on the ground."

Sasuke: "Oh? Prove it."

Naruto: "Fine. Hinata, let's try again. This time, I'll cheer you on!"

Hinata looked up, her eyes filled with uncertainty. "Naruto-kun…"

Naruto: "You've got this! Show him what you're made of!"

He formed a hand seal. "Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu!"

In an instant, over 400 shadow clones appeared, surrounding Sasuke.

Naruto: "Let's see how you handle this, Sasuke!"

The clones charged at Sasuke, who fought back with precision and speed. Despite his skill, the sheer number of clones overwhelmed him. One by one, the clones were dispelled, but the relentless assault left Sasuke battered and exhausted.

By the time the fight ended, both Sasuke and Naruto were lying on the ground, bruised and panting.

Hinata: "Naruto-kun! Sasuke-kun! Are you okay?"

Naruto: "I'm fine. Just a little sore. Sasuke, you good?"

Sasuke: "I'm fine. No need for a hospital."

Naruto: "Alright, let's rest for a bit, then we'll start planning for tomorrow."

The Plan

Naruto: "Here's my idea. Hinata, your Byakugan gives us a huge advantage in tracking Kakashi. You'll be our scout, keeping an eye on his movements. I'll use my shadow clones to harass him and create openings. Sasuke, you're our strongest attacker—you'll deliver the final blow when the time is right."

Sasuke: "That could work, but if Kakashi's as strong as you say, Hinata's Gentle Fist will only be effective if she can land a hit. Otherwise, she's just a distraction."

Naruto: "Hinata, what do you think?"

Hinata: "I… I'll do my best."

Naruto: "That's the spirit! Now, if we could set some traps, that'd be even better. Do either of you know how to set traps?"

Hinata: "Not really…"

Sasuke: "A little."

Naruto: "Perfect. Let's head to the meeting spot Kakashi mentioned and set up some traps before tomorrow."

Meanwhile, at Kakashi's Place

Kakashi, lounging at home with his book, suddenly sneezed.

Kakashi: "Huh? Someone's talking about me…"

He shrugged and went back to reading, completely unaware of the trio's plans.

Back in the Forest

Naruto: "Oh, and one more thing—don't listen to Kakashi about skipping breakfast. I bet the punishment for failing is missing lunch, so we'll need the energy."

Sasuke: "…"

Hinata: "…"
