Chapter 322: Roaming the Continent II

The Next Morning

Soft morning light filtered through the sheer curtains, bathing the room in a gentle golden hue. The sea breeze drifted in faintly from the open window, carrying the scent of salt and distant waves. The world outside stirred quietly—but inside the inn's room, everything remained still.

Dugu Yan slowly blinked her eyes open, her body nestled beneath soft sheets and the warmth of a strong arm draped protectively over her waist.

She tried to move… and immediately winced.

Her legs trembled faintly at the effort, and she let out a quiet breath—half-exhausted, half-dazed. It wasn't pain that lingered… but the overwhelming sense of what had transpired. The night before had been her first time—and nothing had prepared her for what Dave had awakened in her.

Even with her Dragon-type martial spirit, which blessed her with exceptional endurance, her body still trembled from the aftershocks. Every inch of her skin seemed to hum faintly, as though it still remembered his touch, his warmth, his rhythm.

I never knew it could feel like that…

She turned her head slightly. Dave lay beside her, bare-chested, his breathing slow and calm, his hand still gently resting on her hip, as if even in sleep he didn't want to let her go. His expression was peaceful, but there was a quiet power beneath it—like a lion dozing in the sun after the hunt.

Dugu Yan's cheeks turned warm again, recalling the way he had held her, kissed her, whispered her name. He had been surprisingly gentle, especially at the start—guiding her through the moment slowly, responding to every hesitation with patience. But as the night wore on and she had grown bolder, more eager, he had taken her into deeper waters.

And I asked for it, she thought with a soft flush. Even begged him to keep going…

She bit her lower lip lightly, a little embarrassed by how much she had wanted it—and still did. In truth, a part of her already missed the heat, the closeness, the way her body had responded to his so perfectly.

But she remembered his words at the end.

"You've pushed yourself too far for your first time," Dave had said, brushing the sweat from her brow as she lay breathless beneath him. "Even with your dragon spirit giving you strength… rest, Yan. No more tonight."

She had wanted more. Truly. But his firmness—paired with that unwavering tenderness—had made her heart flutter just as much as his touch.

Now, feeling the warmth of his body beside her, Dugu Yan turned slightly and gently pressed her forehead against his chest. His heartbeat was steady, calming.

She smiled to herself.

I belong here… with him.

Carefully, she slipped her arm around him and closed her eyes again, content to let morning slip by just a little longer.

A few moments later, Dave stirred beside her.

His eyes opened slowly, glancing down as he felt her body pressed against his. A soft smile tugged at his lips. "Morning," he murmured, voice still husky from sleep.

Dugu Yan looked up at him with a small smile of her own. "Morning…"

He leaned in and kissed her gently on the forehead, brushing a few loose strands of violet hair behind her ear. Then, with a stretch and a low sigh, he carefully pulled himself from the bed.

"You stay there," he said, glancing back at her. "Your legs might still protest if you try walking too fast."

Yan blushed deeper but nodded shyly, letting herself sink back into the pillows.

Dave washed up quickly at the basin near the open window, the cold water helping clear the last traces of drowsiness from his face. The sunlight outside was stronger now, catching the glimmer of ocean waves beyond the rooftops of the seaside inn. The soft sound of gulls and bustling footsteps hinted that the coastal city was already wide awake.

As he dried his hands and turned around, he saw Dugu Yan sitting up slowly. She had managed to wrap the sheets around her, though her flushed cheeks and tousled hair made her look more alluring than modest.

"Are you sure you're alright?" Dave asked with a raised brow, approaching her bedside again.

Yan nodded slowly. "Still sore… but I don't regret a thing."

He chuckled. "That's dangerous praise."

She reached out and took his hand. "Maybe. But I meant it."

Just then, a knock sounded on their door, followed by Meilin's unmistakable voice. "You two finally awake in there? Or should I give you another hour to recover?"

Dave sighed, smiling as he walked over to the door. "You're really enjoying this, huh?"

Meilin leaned on the doorframe as it opened, dressed in a crisp dark outfit, ready to travel. "Of course I am. Can't have the dragon girl hogging you all night and pretending she's innocent."

Behind her, the city stretched out—sunlight glinting off tiled rooftops, bustling markets alive with noise and color, and the distant scent of the sea ever-present.

Dave turned to look at Dugu Yan again, who had now stood with some effort and was beginning to dress slowly.

"Well," he said, rolling his shoulders, "after a night like that, we could just sleep the day away…"

"But?" Meilin asked, eyes narrowing.

"But," Dave continued, smirking, "I'd rather stretch my legs—and maybe see what this city has to offer. Besides…" He glanced at the window. "The sea's calling."

Yan finally stepped up beside him, dressed now but still holding his arm for support. "So… we're exploring today?"

Dave nodded firmly. "We roam the coast. Eat, shop, maybe irritate a few spirit cultivators along the way. But most importantly…" He turned to both girls with a grin. "We're going to enjoy this."

"That's the whole point, after all," he added with a casual shrug.

Both Meilin and Dugu Yan nodded in agreement.

"Alright then," Meilin said, stretching slightly, "you wait outside while I help Sister Yan freshen up—and maybe mend her body a bit."

Dugu Yan immediately shook her head, stepping forward with a determined look, even if she still held Dave's arm for balance. "No… I want to remember this. Every part of it. This pain… it's a mark—a sign of a moment that means something important in a girl's life."
