Chapter 27 - 27 – Long-Term Task
Chapter 27 – Long-Term Task
“You just said there’s a long-term mission for me. What’s that?” Trying to keep his emotions in check, Finn Lewis lay down on the sofa and asked in a weak voice.
“Mission objective: Make the top domestic celebrity, Kay Lee, your girlfriend.”
Finn, taken aback, sprung up from the sofa and hollered with bloodshot eyes,
“Zero, damn you!”
Finn behaved like a wild cat whose tail has been stepped on, becoming hysterical in an instant.
“Why are you reacting this way? Is it because I have entered your life, discovering some of your secrets?”, Zero inquired in its usual indifferent tone.
“Hell with you! I don’t want you messing up the ideal image I have in my mind.”, Finn vented and then calmed down. He faltered onto the sofa with a bitter smile.
The reason for Finn’s anger wasn’t because he had met Kay Lee. That would have been impossible. She was a top celebrity at home and internationally known, whereas he was just an ordinary kid from a farming family. There was no way they would cross paths.
Everyone has something they hold dear in their hearts and do not want others to touch. Kay Lee was Finn’s — someone he admired, like almost everyone once did, although he had started a bit late. She had become a top woman star without a single scandal in this chaotic entertainment era, an unimaginably rare feat.
Finn once joked with his roommate that he would win over Kay Lee if he was rich one day. But, that didn’t mean he was comfortable with Zero unmasking his secrets bit by bit.
Suddenly, Finn felt powerless. Zero had become a part of his life, and it was impossible to change that since he shouted those words by the river. Regardless of how hard Finn tried to guard his secrets, unfortunately, it was nearly impossible to do so in front of Zero.
“What else do you know? Go ahead and do what you want. I don’t seem to have any secrets in front of you anyway.”, said Finn, regaining his indifferent demeanor quickly after venting his emotions.
“I don’t think you should feel this way. You should know what my presence means to you. The things you’ve only dared to dream of can now become a reality. You once fantasized about spending millions in an afternoon. Today, you accomplished that within just two hours. Look at the watch on your wrist. It’s the same one you bragged about to your roommates, and it’s real, isn’t it?” , Zero uncharacteristically vented in a lengthy speech.
“What are you trying to say?”, Finn asked helplessly.
“It’s simple. Are you going to accept the mission or not?”, Zero asked casually.
“Before accepting it, I have a question.”, Finn hesitated.
“You want to ask if Kay Lee is still a virgin?”, For the first time, Zero’s voice had a different tone, but Finn was too stunned to notice this.
“Damn!”, Finn blurted out a curse. He was going insane. It felt like he couldn’t hide anything from Zero.
“I know the answer. Do you want to hear it?”, Zero’s voice returned to normal.
Finn was torn – to hear or not to hear. Even he himself didn’t know if he wanted to know the answer. Every man has a goddess in his heart, and undoubtedly, she is perfect. But what if the given answer is not expected? Wouldn’t it better to live in blissful ignorance?
After a while, Finn gnashed his teeth and said, “Tell me! If my goddess is shattered, I will hate you for the rest of my life, Zero.”
“Well, you won’t have a chance. She’s always been single.”, Zero told Finn directly.
“Wow.” , Finn couldn’t help but punch the air in excitement before immediately answering, “Accept. I’ll take on this mission.”
“Mission objective: Make Kay Lee your girlfriend. Time limit: None. Successful reward: 10,000 points, one-time use of my power within the permissions granted. Failure penalty: Deduct 50,000 points.” , Zero materialized the mission into a virtual screen in front of Finn.
“By the way, the woman you met in Aimadia today was Kay Lee.” , Zero suddenly added.
Finn was speechless. He didn’t have the energy to comment on Zero anymore. He regretted not having the opportunity to see Kay Lee in person, but it was a good tmng. ne nacl Known tnen tnat It was Kay Lee, ne mlgnt nave rallecl tne mission.
Looking at the rewards of the mission, Finn couldn’t help but be excited. The penalty for failure was also terrifying, but Finn felt there was a catch to the reward that allowed one-time use of Zero’s power.
“Can you tell me what it means to use your power once within the permissions granted?”, Finn asked.
“It means you can use my power for anything, not just limited to protection.”
“Anything?”, Finn raised an eyebrow.
“Anything.”
“Even illegal things?”
“Earth laws have no effect on me. You decide everything.”
Hearing that, a light suddenly flashed in Finn’s mind, and he eagerly asked, “Wait, I have a question. You once said that the money I earn can be exchanged for points, is that still effective?”
“Always effective. As long as you earn money, you can get the corresponding points, and the money you earn, I won’t confiscate.”
“Why, even illegal money?”, Finn asked with eyes gleaming. That was the crucial point he wanted to ask.
“As I mentioned earlier, Earth laws have no effect on me. Everything is up to you.”, Zero’s response made Finn swing his fist in satisfaction. Previously, Finn had only thought about starting a company, forgetting that any method of making money could work, but subconsciously, he had limited himself to legal channels.
“List out the items I can exchange points for.” , Finn said quickly.
Soon, a virtual screen appeared in front of Finn. Finn quickly scanned it and after about ten minutes, he finally found what he was searching for: Subspace Storage Device. Using Jotium parallel subspace principle, it controlled space property structures and could store any non-living object. Each cubic meter of storage space cost 1,000 points.
When Finn saw this, he couldn’t help but snap his fingers. It could store any non-living thing — a godsend for smuggling! With the current Earth’s technology, it would be impossible to detect. Although Finn didn’t have points now, if he could exchange for this thing… go to Hidden Island, procure some goods, and then transport them to the North Federation or the Southern Federation, the reselling price could multiply by tens or even hundreds of times!
Would he still be worried about points then? However, he could not do this often, as Finn didn’t want to be targeted. After all, although he could store things, he still had to live on Earth. Recalling scenes from movies, Finn shuddered. But, it was nonetheless a way out..
