- Mistress is training now.
- I know I have an important message for her that needs to be delivered immediately," the secretary Augustus knew smiled with the edge of her lips and walked past the girls in the white suit.
A large open room filled with mats and all sorts of exercise equipment. In the centre, on the largest training mat stood a white-haired girl in a black kimono. Opposite her, not at all harmonising with the size of her white-haired opponent, was a two-metre tall, pumped-up woman with a rough look.
The two girls in the centre of the room were practicing wrestling. To be more exact, the white-haired girl was practising her throws on her pumped-up opponent. The two-metre tall woman, who was a master of martial arts, could do nothing to the girl, who was fragile against her background. All attempts of the giantess were stopped at the root.
- Rest twenty minutes, then we'll continue, - having knocked over her pumped-up opponent once again, Vanessa Fisk took a snow-white towel and approached the girl in glasses who had entered the hall.
- Hello Mistress Fisk," the office lady smiled warmly, tilting her head slightly.
- Sarah, has the mercenary agreed to work for us?
- Mistress, how should I tell you... - the girl hesitated in front of Vanessa's scarlet eyes. - He refused, referring to the already existing contract with Stark.
- Did you communicate with him differently?
- Intimidation didn't work on him," Sarah shook her head sadly. - I emailed you a video of our conversation.
Fisk threw the wet towel on the ground and returned to her opponent without saying anything. A couple of minutes of contractions and a painful scream sounded. Vanessa wrapped her arms around the woman's neck and with a little effort, rolled her backwards.
- Mistress Kingpin, there is no need to get angry and make serious decisions about the mercenary, - Sarah approached Vanessa, who had killed her opponent without a second thought. - He showed you due respect and refused only because of his existing contract. As soon as his contract with Stark is up, we can win him over to our side and subdue him. With the work of our experts, August will be your loyal dog.
- Shut up Sara, you always know just what to say," Vanessa got up from the mat. - Better tell me how the tests of the super soldier serum on Sword.
- After injecting the drug into Lady Sword's body, no side effects were noticed. Her physical abilities have increased several times over and her senses are noticeably heightened," Sarah pulled the reports out of her briefcase and began to read the information from there. - The fight with Ratnik, a Stark mercenary, showed extraordinary results. Lady Sword's combat strength has improved from her previous performance. Marksmanship and endurance, Swordswoman just kept August out of hiding until the police arrived.
- What about the rest of the test subjects? - Fisk tempered her anger in her eyes, already indifferent to the broken-necked body beneath her feet.
- No side effects have been detected.
- All right, get the rest of the serum ready for me. I want everything to go without any unexpected accidents," Kingpin walked towards the exit, removing her kimono from her body on the way.
- Yes ma'am, everything will be ready tomorrow! - Sara bowed to Vanessa's back as she exited the training hall.
...
The day before the trial, Augustus was visited by the long awaited lawyers from Stark. He was led into a private visiting room where he and a collective of five women were drawing up a defence plan for the trial. It all seemed a delusion to the mercenary, for he had already guessed that his imprisonment had been planned by Kingpin. How he had managed to mess with such a powerful person in America was a mystery to the man.
The timer on the system was long gone and an exclamation mark burned instead. Augustus had tried several times to interact with it, but he had failed. It was the same situation with the timer, he couldn't interact with it either. The system hadn't worked for a month now, and it was stressing the mercenary out. Earlier he had at least seen the timer and hoped that at its end the system would start working normally, but now it was incomprehensible.
Time was inexorably moving forward, and the canonical future was becoming more and more bleak for August. He didn't really rely on his knowledge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it had been useless more than once. The events unfolded in a very different way from the Iron Man films. Perhaps the canon was broken by his appearance? While the mercenary was in prison, he thought about it for a long time, was he the reason for the change of the canon, was the fact of its existence?
The result of his reflections was the realisation of one simple truth. The world he was in was not a children's comic book, a film or a TV series. It was a real world where the rules of the real world worked, and a world where all of Marvel's characters co-existed. His appearance did not change the course of the history of this world in any way, because the world itself was wrong from the beginning. Stark would have died without his help in Afghanistan, he saved that girl, then saved her twice more in America. She owes him a great debt, and he will remind her of that debt when he needs to.
A closed-door trial was held in the courtroom for the Stark mercenary. The court was attended by Stark's lead attorney, the judge and the injured party, no reporters or other outsiders were present. The injured party was a woman in a black suit with an expressionless face. She was some kind of agent, either from the CIA or the FBI, although she could well have been a Shield agent. The woman in the suit was piecing together August's past step by step, putting him in front of the judge. The Stark girl lawyer was clearly good at her job, and the accused mercenary was left to sit silently, only occasionally opening his mouth.
The trial, thanks to the female agent with August's past, lasted over three hours. She hadn't been able to dig up anything unusual, because August's current appearance was different from that of John, the kid he'd fallen for. Even the bloody fingerprints were different. At most his past as an Afghan mercenary was raised, but here he was completely clean, because he worked for the Americans and faithfully fulfilled their contracts for murder.
- Sentence is pronounced, in the name of the United States of America, under the article... - after a temporary removal to make a final decision, the judge returned to the courtroom and began to read out the document.

In a moment, everything in August's eyes turned black with a headache, and he fell face down on the table exhaustedly. The judge's words were indecipherable, the mercenary hadn't heard what judgement had been passed on his case. The man's body was burning from the inside out, his temperature was rising.
- Mr August, are you all right? Mr August! - the female lawyer grabbed him by the shoulders. - Please calm down, it's all right, the court has acquitted you! Miss Stark has posted your bail. You can leave the courthouse right now.
- Give me some water," the mercenary mumbled, the severe headache was slowly subsiding and he was slowly getting used to his suddenly increased body temperature. With the acquisition of new abilities the body was constantly reorganising and the pain was unavoidable. Augustus was used to this pain, he was just caught off guard. He didn't expect the system to decide to switch on at such an important moment and give out an unknown ability. - I'm fine, no need to worry.
A policewoman approached the recovering mercenary and removed his handcuffs. Afterwards, the man was taken to the storage room with the belongings of the accused and given his suit, the weapon was irrevocably confiscated.
Not shying away from anyone, Augustus, bored with his suit, changed his clothes right in full view of several policewomen. Clenching his fist in his suit, he smiled contentedly.
- Don't fall for us again," a distantly familiar girl walked past him. The face in the balaclava surfaced in the mercenary's memory, and he recognised the policewoman by her eyes and mouth with one white fang-like tooth. It took August less than a second to remember and recognise her.
"She was involved in my arrest. Fucking hell, what's wrong with my head, why do I remember that and how could I identify her? She was wearing a mask at the time."
- The system," the mercenary mumbled, wondering what had happened to him. What a gift from the system.[Name: August

Augustus, moving towards the exit of the courtroom - stopped. He noticed a new skill that had appeared. "Advanced Thinking Ability", this skill gave a hundred to perception and allowed him to go beyond human limits, to process information dozens of times faster than a normal human. Because of this ability, at times it began to seem to the mercenary that time around him was slowing down.
In fact, time wasn't slowing down, but August wasn't fully accustomed to his new ability. It would take him a few weeks to get used to such a monstrous increase in perception.
August drove the car up to his employer's villa. A lone red-haired beauty with seductive black stockings on her legs was sitting on a pushchair near the entrance. She smiled at the mercenary who got out of the car, Augustus also smiled relieved under his mask.
- Stark, where's my money? - The mercenary smiled because he wouldn't have to search for Stark to get the promised money. He was as criminally greedy for money as always.
