Chapter 11: Chapter 11 National Idol!
Jiang Weiwei left Tang Zhong and finally returned to her own home, which was quite large, a three-room suite. She opened the door and hurried to take a shower.
She was clean in no time, coming out of the bathroom wearing Winnie the Pooh pajamas. Thinking about what had happened yesterday gave her a headache, but fortunately, she would never see that construction worker again, and no one else knew about last night's events.
"Forget it, let's watch TV!" Jiang Weiwei plopped down on the big sofa, sprawling out lazily. The ordeal of last night was simply life-threatening.
She picked up the remote control and turned on the TV.
Jiang Weiwei's TV was a wall-mounted LCD. Just as she turned it on, her cell phone rang.
"Master, master, that little bitch is calling again..."
Jiang Weiwei hurriedly tossed aside the remote control and picked up the phone from under the sofa. This ringtone was set for her best friend, Shi Xiaoxiao.
She pressed the phone to her ear and said, "Hello!"
A voice came through quickly from the other end.
"Weiwei, where were you last night? And calling me so early today... tell me the truth, did you go fooling around last night? Alright, even though you haven't met that whatever Tang Zhong, maybe he's a handsome guy. Don't worry about it. Wait till you meet him and then decide. If it doesn't work out, we'll make a fuss. After all, to be your husband, one must be really capable!"
As soon as Jiang Weiwei heard her best friend ask what she did last night, she became flustered and said, "Where could I have gone? I just had a few drinks and then went home to sleep!"
"That's for the best. Oh, I have something to tell you, I've got a new idol!"
"Pfft, you get a new idol every two or three days, it's not a surprise anymore."
"I feel like I am going to be conquered by him, oh, he's just too handsome!"
Jiang Weiwei responded with a feigned gagging sound, "Enough, you fangirl!"
"Weiwei, hurry up and look at the TV, they're airing it right now, that show hosted by Ren Jing."
"I'm not watching, I'm not as silly over guys as you are!" Jiang Weiwei declined, but she felt a little itchy inside; she had never seen her deadbeat best friend Shi Xiaoxiao this excited before.
"Alright, I won't talk to you anymore, I have to watch my idol now. Oh, he's just too handsome. I feel like I'm going to be obsessed, Mysterious Hero... goodbye!"
Beep beep!
The call from the other end disconnected!
"A friend forgotten at the sight of a handsome guy!" Jiang Weiwei muttered, but she wondered how there could be a "Mysterious Hero," wasn't it Spiderman, Batman?
She put the phone down, picked up the remote control, and started flicking through channels.
The TV was showing a drama; the female lead was crying and the male lead suddenly embraced her, holding each other in the rain!
Jiang Weiwei immediately changed the channel, another palace drama—switch. Watching too many palace dramas could drive anyone insane.
No matter how much she changed channels, they were all soap operas, utterly boring; the morning programs were all like this.
Out of sheer boredom, Jiang Weiwei remembered what Xiaoxiao had said about an idol and became a little interested. She wanted to know who had managed to mesmerize her fangirl best friend into such a crazed state. The show hosted by Ren Jing that girl was a news program. Soon, Jiang Weiwei flipped to the news channel.
On the TV screen, Ren Jing was speaking proficiently!
"Good morning, we bring you today's news. Another illegal taxi and robbery base in Jianghai City has been dismantled. But this time, in addition to the police force, a civic-minded individual was involved. Unfortunately, this good Samaritan preferred anonymity, and we only managed to capture a photo of his back. Here is the photo I took, dressed in a military outfit. If anyone has information, please contact us. We would like to interview this anonymous public-spirited individual!"
In front of the TV, Jiang Weiwei's jaw nearly dropped in shock. She was staring at the photo on the TV, completely flabbergasted. Others might not be familiar, but Jiang Weiwei was absolutely certain. She would never forget this figure because she had an indelible impression of it.
"How is this possible? Isn't that the construction worker? Didn't he just leave me during the day? How did he become a good Samaritan?"
At that moment, the TV screen was still continuing. An old man, whose bag had been snatched earlier, was being interviewed.
"Yes, that handsome young man in military pants, you left in such a hurry, I didn't get a chance to thank you. If I can meet you, I will certainly bow in gratitude!"
The screen then switched to another person.
"To the hero in military attire, thank you. You're my Mysterious Hero, the best!"
"Mysterious Hero, I will always remember you!"
Watching the images on the TV, Jiang Weiwei was speechless... What on earth was going on?
Jiang Weiwei hurriedly picked up her phone and redialed the number.
It connected after a while.
A shriek came from the other end!
"So handsome, Mysterious Hero!"
The voice was so sharp that Jiang Weiwei had just put her phone to her ear when she hurriedly took it away again, waiting until the sound subsided before slowly putting it back.
"What's wrong, Weiwei?"
"Right, Xiaoxiao, what did you say your idol's name was again?"
"Batman, did you see the news too? Do you think he's really handsome, with such a masculine silhouette? I can't even... I'm falling for him, ah... I'm fainting!" came the voice from the other end of the phone.
"Ah!"
"Weiwei, do you know him? Is he an employee at your company? No, that can't be right, your company designs lingerie, there are so few men there, and even if there are, they're effeminate, how could there be someone so manly!"
Hearing this, Jiang Weiwei immediately panicked and quickly defended, "I definitely don't know him, how could I possibly know a laborer, right? That's what you're saying, isn't it!"
If her girlfriend found out that she had shared a bed with a laborer, it would really be disastrous, akin to the end of the world.
"Fine, I don't know him, goodbye!"
Jiang Weiwei had no idea what to say anymore. She just wanted to make a call to confirm her suspicions, never expecting it to really be the case. She had just finished showering and was lamenting that she would never see that laborer again, that no one would ever know about last night, but now such a farce had unfolded.
This was simply... unbearable to witness.
Last night's laborer, today's Batman!
This...
Jiang Weiwei was at a loss, if that laborer suddenly became an internet celebrity and discovered her identity, wouldn't she be ruined? No, absolutely not!
Jiang Weiwei was completely flustered.
Meanwhile, on the other side of town, Tang Zhong had already left the scene of the incident far behind.
But there was one scene that lingered in his mind and was hard to forget—how big that policewoman's chest was, touching it once was unforgettable.
He wondered where else he could find such criminal gangs to squash, and if he would encounter another policewoman with such large breasts.
"Pah, pah, pah, I'm here to call off a marriage, and then leave. What's the use of thinking about this stuff?" Tang Zhong said to himself.
Looking up, he wondered where exactly Jiangdong Group was located.
But at that moment, Tang Zhong saw a crowd of people gathered ahead, all of them looking up at a large LCD TV hanging on a glass curtain wall.
"Batman, you can tell by the silhouette that he must be handsome! Look at those muscles, so manly!" A girl gushed dreamily.
"I'm starting to fall for Batman too!" another woman, who was with her boyfriend, said adoringly. She then tugged at her boyfriend, "After you go back, you have to work out for me. I'll buy you a camouflage outfit, Batman should be your role model!"
Curiosity drew Tang Zhong closer.
"Excuse me, let me through, please!"
Finally squeezing through the crowd to see the TV clearly, Tang Zhong's face turned unsightly as he watched the news. "No way, Batman!" Tang exclaimed. He had returned from Liga Continent this time by swimming from the sea to avoid alarming others. Not daring to stow away, he swam for fourteen straight hours, painstakingly making sure he wouldn't be discovered, only to end up on TV.
This was simply unacceptable to him. Covering his face, Tang Zhong tried to slip away quietly; if he were recognized, it would be terrible.
Just as he was about to leave, he heard an old lady's voice from behind.
"Young man, may I ask you a question?"
Tang Zhong thought to himself, "It's over, I've been recognized!"
Just as he was about to stealthily slip away, he turned around and saw an old lady, plainly dressed and with a face full of wrinkles. It seemed she hadn't recognized him, which relieved Tang Zhong.
"What is it?"
"Can you tell where the place on the TV is? The old man on the TV is my husband. He took the money for my granddaughter's hospital fee and told me he was on his way here in a taxi. I've been waiting for him for over three hours. If he doesn't get here soon, the doctors won't perform the surgery. Now, I can't even get through to his phone. Can you tell me if anything has happened to my husband?" the old lady asked anxiously, pointing to the old man being interviewed on TV.
Tang Zhong recognized the man on the TV as the one who had helped him escape earlier. He remembered the old man saying that the money he had was for his granddaughter's hospital fee, which turned out to be true.
"Grandma, your husband was tricked just now and won't be able to make it in time," Tang Zhong said.
"What?" The old lady seemed to faint, "That can't be, he must make it. The specialist won't do the surgery without payment and he's about to leave. If he doesn't arrive soon, the specialist will leave, and my granddaughter will lose her life."
As she spoke, she burst into tears.
Tang Zhong felt sorrow watching her, thinking what kind of trashy specialist wouldn't perform surgery without payment? A sense of justice exploded within him; he knew the old man would definitely not make it in time.
"What illness does your granddaughter have? Take me to see her. If the specialist won't do it, I'll do the surgery for your granddaughter!"
