Chapter 4: Things we Lost in the Fire
Phoenix began preparing herself. She was about to video call her parents. She opened up her laptop, dialed and there was an answer.
“Hi mama,” said Phoenix.
“Nixie dear, I hope you’re all okay.”
“We're fine, where’s dad?”
“Oh, he’s still stuck at work I’m afraid “
“I see.”
“I presume I know why you’re calling.”
“Is it that obvious.”
“Let's keep it short,” Phoenix's mom cleared her throat. “Your dad I were talking and with careful consideration think it’s best you decide where you want to go from here on out.”
“I know you and dad were hesitant on me going from the start…what?”
“We got the call about the incident and we’re told you managed to save 8 people.”
“Y-yeah, but I didn’t even put up any fight.”
“Be that as it may, we’re sure you’ll be well trained soon and become a valiant hero.”
“Mama,” Phoenix was at the verge of tears.
“My sweet girl," said Mrs Lilywhite then she noticed something behind Phoenix. "Who's that?”
"Hi," said a voice over Phoenix’s shoulder.
"Vivy!" shrieked Phoenix.
"How's it going Mama Phoenix, I'm Vivien O'Hara, but just call me Vivy."
"Oh, um, hello, “said Mrs Lilywhite.
"Your daughter is so awesome and so tall, and has a large pair of-"
"Don't say that!"
"I know, she has a large pair of knockers," said Mrs. Lilywhite.
"Mama!"
"Something we share in common."
"I can see that," said Vivy. "And how tall are you?"
"I'm quite lengthy myself, 6 foot 1 to be exact, taller than my husband, but not as tall as my little girl though."
"Has anyone told you you're a bonified milf?"
"W-why would you ask that!" cried Phoenix.
“Yes, actually.”
“Don’t answer her!”
"I must admit, I've gotten that compliment from plenty of High School boys."
"Please stop!"
"So, I heard you have fire powers."
"That's right.
Mrs Lilywhite held out her hand and a flame appeared on her palm.
"That's so cool, I've seen a lot of fire users but yours has a much redder colour!"
"I like this one dear," said Mrs Lilywhite. "Is she your roommate?"
Phoenix calmed down.
"Um, no, she's a friend, my actual roommate isn't here right now," answered Phoenix. "Her name is Eden; you'll love her because she's ridiculously adorable."
"Really? Then I look forwards to meeting her as well, ah, it seems I've got a t run. I love you sweetie."
Phoenix's mom cut off. After gaining composure she took a breath and exhaled in relief. She then looked more determined.
“I have to get better.”
Phoenix and Vivy now got ready to go for their first ever hero training. They left her room, went downstairs and entered the lobby; they saw Ms Nightshade on her way.
“Wish me luck!”
“You do your best, honey!”
"I'm gonna kill it out there!" yelled Vivy.
"I'm sure you will."
They met up with Eden and the others. They were gathered with a group of newcomers, only 30 in total. They weren't divided by Dorms, there must have at least been one person from a different class, probably. In charge of them today was a young woman who had an eye patch.
“Welcome to your official training,” she spoke with German accent. “My name is Helen Müller. I know we were off to a bad start a few days ago but we cannot delay any further, otherwise situations like that could have proven much worse. Now then, let’s start with warm ups and fitness.”
Their training commenced, everyone began jogging around the field. They then stopped to do stretches and eventually started the exercises. They did sit-ups, push -ups, bicycle crunches, squats, lunges, star jumps, sometimes all at once. They then did pull ups by a bar, ran through an obstacle of tires and were then made to carry a sand bag as heavy a person across the field. Everyone were gasping except Vivy, she looks like she can do this all day.
“All right, time for power training,” announced Helen. “As you know, there are a variety of abilities. Offensive, defensive, power-up, technical, long range, short range, transformation among many others. Basically, if you look at that tree for example, only a handful of you can hit it from this distance. However, if you look at me, more than half of you could take me down, whether you’re able to shoot laser eyes, release a sleeping gas, use a mind manipulation or simply jump right out and punch me with an iron fist.”
At this moment, nobody was entirely sure what her point was. There could be someone here who’s ability was to simply detect a liar.
One boy raised his hand. “Umm, I can speak and understand any language.”
Or maybe something like that. Helen came forwards, stared him dead in the eye.
“Können Sie das bitte wiederholen?” she said in German.
“Uh, Ich kann jede Sprache sprechen und verstehen,” he responded.
“Wie heisen sie?”
“Mein name ist Dexter Baxter, Hermes Klasse.”
“Hmm, is there anyone here who can speak a second language?”
Many raised their hands, including Eden and Logan.
“You,” Helen pointed to another girl. “What is your name.”
“Umm, I-I’m Candace Clarkson, I can speak French,” she said.
“Test him.”
“O-okay,” Candace went over to Dexter. “Tu viens d'ou?”
“Je viens de Dallas, Texas,” answered Dexter.
“How was he?” asked Helen.
“He answered correctly.”
“I see, that is a useful ability, especially when needing to infiltrate the enemy.”
Dexter smiled.
“But,” Helen cleared her throat. “Wenn du mich jemals wieder underbrichts, werde ich dich wünschen lassen du könntest nie sprechen!!”
Dexter dropped to the floor.
“What did she say?” someone asked him.
“Don’t interrupt her again.”
“…”
“But since someone has all ready demonstrated their Enigma, we might as well all do the same,” said Helen.
Everyone lined up, one by one each person revealed their names and powers.
“Martha Warlock, Zeus Class” said the first girl. “My Enigma is Hover, I can make myself as well as anyone and anything become airborne.”
Martha began strolling forward then she started walking on invisible steps. She was now 30 feet in the air as if standing on a non-existent platform. She held out her hand and slowly, rocks began floated upwards until reaching her.
“Are you only capable of remaining in one place!” Helen called up. “Or can you move around “
“Yes!”
Martha along with the rocks then glided sideways, forward and backwards.
“What's your weight limit?”
“5 tonnes!”
“Now that's great for air missions and evacuations!”
Martha came down and the next person went.
“I'm Fred Thurston, Hephaestus Class, my Enigma is Machine.”
Fred’s body turned metallic.
“Unlike a steel Enigma, my one has moving and detachable parts.”
He demonstrated by taking off his arm which still functioned despite being apart from the body.
“Now, this next one is more intense.”
Without warning, he removed his head, many gasped.
“As you can see I'm still operational,” he spoke from his detached head.
“I have to be the one to say it,” said Helen. “You're basically just a robot.”
“Yeah, I get that a lot.”
“Next!”
“But aren’t you gonna see what else I can-
“NEXT!!”
"..."
Another boy went up.
“My name is Angus Nicholson, Artemis Class, my Enigma is Bind and I can restrain anyone with any nearby objects.”
“Show me,” Helena held out her hands as if ready to be handcuffed.
Angus waved his hand and the nearest stick flew off the ground and curled around Helen's wrist.
“My ability also strengthens the object, so a simple stick can hold any normal person.”
“As you know, we all aren’t normal.”
Helen snapped the stick effortlessly, now everyone wonders what her Enigma is.
A few more showed their ability, nothing too flashy or interesting. Logan went up next.
“Logan Mackenzie, Poseidon Class, my Enigma is Psychotic Cyclone. I can create strong spiraling winds and whirlpools.”
The next moment, everyone felt a sudden wind flow pick up, it all seemed to form around her. Logan began to lift off the ground. She stuck out her hand and a spiral of wind formed around and she released it to flow to a precise spot and she knocked over a…cow?
“Moooooo!” The cow complained.
“Why is there a cow here?” asked Phoenix.
“This camp has a bunch of farm animals roaming, haven’t you noticed the chickens and the sheep?” said Eden.
“Now that is some immaculate power!” cheered Helen.
Logan came back down. “Would you like to see me demonstrate with water?”
“That's all right, I’d like to get things along.”
Andy went up.
“Andromeda Williams, Demeter class, my Enigma, Floral Whisperer. I can communicate with plants. I can ask them to move or tell me what they’ve witnessed and they’ll answer. If I want to send a message when there’s no cellular communication, my voice can be carried from one blade of grass to the rest.”
“Your voice?”
“Yeah, it’s basically an echo, but I assure you, it’s real.”
“Does your ability work on large plants like trees?”
“Yes, but with a lot of strength in my willpower, let me demonstrate.”
Andy walked to the nearest tree, she put her hand on it then place her forehead against it. After about a minute the tree began to move. It waved it’s branch like it’s saying hello.
“From what I presume, you can’t control plants?”
“Nah, but if I ask nice enough, they will listen.”
“Seems decent enough, next!”
Andy just shrugged with all the care she had in the world.
Eden went up next.
“Eden Green, Demeter class, my Enigma is Gigantify, I can grow to an enormous size.”
Once again, Eden got undressed, a few boys got a bit too excited. She was now in her spandex suit again.
Eden showed her ability, growing to great heights.
“That's great power if you know how to handle it,” yelled Helen from down below.
Vivy went up.
"Vivien O'Hara, Artemis class! You can call me Vivy!" she introduced. "My enigma is High Octane Pulse, based on my emotions I can utulize different inhuman feats. Super speed, strength, instincts, intelligence or endurance. But some emotions can affect me in a negative way. Jealousy make me lose a sense of decision making, sadness makes me physically weak or disgust makes me lose stamina."
"What are you feeling right now?" asked Helen.
"Happy and enthuastic, so that means..."
Vivy shot forward and was on the other side of the field in a second. She came back then ran from one spot to another in the blink of an eye.
"I see," said Helen. "Not impressive."
"What!?"
"Honestly, I think the robot ability is looking more interesting."
"You've got to be kidding, I'm literally a speedster now!"
"Maybe in your dreams."
Vivy's entire body tightened, her muscles constricted and in her furiosity she punched the ground. There was a tremor, a few of them toppled over. However, Helen was grinning now.
"My apologies, I just said all of that to get you fuming," said Helen. "You seem like someone who isn't prone to anger so I had to get you off guard."
"Huh...really!?"
Vivy's entire personality reverted back.
"What I said was untrue, your ability is sensational."
"Yay!"Vivy cheered and rejoined the group.
Now was Phoenix's turn, she hesitantly trudged forward
“H-h-hi, many name is Phoenix Lilywhite, Poseidon Class. I have the abilities of an Octopus.”
“From my knowledge an octopus can grow back limbs, mimic and squeeze into to small spaces among other things,” said Helen. “Let me see you contort your body.”
That’s the first time anyone's asked to see that ability. Phoenix proceeded to twist her limbs at the joints, as it seems she is highly flexible. In the next moment, Helen brought a container about the size of a mini fridge. Phoenix ended up squeezing into if enough to be able to close the lid.
“Now, let me see those tentacles.”
Phoenix gets out of the container and proceeded raise her shirt. She released her tentacles.
“I hear they’re quite strong,” Helen got into a battle stance. “You may go all out.”
Phoenix was afraid of that.
“O-okay.”
She let her tentacles advance. Helen was more than ready, however, things got weird. Instead of going for the attack, two tentacles ended up going down Helen's pants, two up her shirt, back and front respectively. For a minute there was complete silence. Helen's face turned slightly red and then she proceeded make kind provocative noises.
“I-I-I-I-I I’m sorry!,” yelled Phoenix. “I’m not always in control!”
Phoenix summoned them back to her. Helen slumped down to the floor. She gripped her chest and placed a hand by her crotch area. Phoenix can only imagine what her tentacles gripped onto or…went into, the latter made her shiver.
“T-training d-d-dismiss,” said Helen softly.
$$$
“It was excruciating, but I got through it all in the end,” said Phoenix. “But, I really got on Miss Müller's bad side, which from what I’ve experienced is not what anyone would want to go through. I can see she’s very tough, but she is still a young woman, not even the strong can withstand all that.”
Phoenix lifted her head and turned to look at the person she was talking to, Cordelia.
“It must be quite strange for me to visit you like this since we only met once. I guess I really liked who you are from the get go.”
Phoenix noticed Cordelia’s arm, it had been replaced by a metallic prosthetic limb.
“Nice arm you’ve got there, you look pretty cool, like Violet Evergarden. I’d ask you to wear an emerald brooch and carry around a type-writer from now on, but that would be silly.”
Phoenix slapped herself. “I’m talking a whole lot of absurdity, aren’t I?”
“Be that as it may, I’m sure she'll still be happy, dearie.”
“Kya!!” Phoenix jumped up from her seat.
A beautiful blonde woman was standing by the doorway. She spoke with a British accent so Phoenix presume she’s either Cordelia's sister or Mrs. Ridley.
“My husband is in Norwich right now, so he obviously couldn’t make it.”
Oh yeah, how unpleasant of him not visiting his bed ridden daughter even though you’re across the other side of the Atlantic.
“My daughter was quite keen on becoming a hero,” Mrs. Ridley continued. “She only thought of one thing and that’s saving lives. Not fame, not money, not even credit.”
“Yeah, I guess she perceived herself that way.”
Mrs. Ridley smiled sweetly. “I was afraid she would have a hard time making friends, but I see she’s in good hands.”
Phoenix proceeded to leave. “I think I’ve been here long enough, it was nice to meet you, Mrs. Ridley.”
“You can just call me, Julia.”
Phoenix nodded then left. She walked through the passageway and past an open room. She did a double take and moved backwards to look through that door again. She saw Diana Archer standing in front of a sick bed where a boy was asleep. Phoenix did not know who he was nor why Diana came to visit him. As if on instincts, Diana turned her head to look back at Phoenix, Phoenix jumped back in surprise.
“I-I wasn’t spying or anything.”
“I know.”
She didn’t say anything else.
“S-so, who is he?”
“Anton Locke, he's someone I knew in elementary and middle school. We only recently met again after a couple of years.”
“O-oh and what are his injuries?”
“Fractured right forearm and concussion, he’s been unconscious since the attack.”
Phoenix knew where this was going, Diana feels she could have saved him instead of fighting.
“I-I would love to stay and chat, but I think I must go on.”
“Very well.”
Phoenix exited the building. Thoughts of Diana's predicament came to her mind. She shook her head deciding it’s best not get involved. Before continuing, a voice sent a chill down her spine.
"It's a pleasure to see you again."
Phoenix froze, she slowly turned ehr head to the one who spoke, it was the white-haired girl fro mthe bus
"I was just stopping by after hearing the news of the attack, it's such a tragedy."
Phoenix couldn't respond wit hanything other tha a nod. She still can't shake the feeling there's something malicious about her.
"Still not in the mood to speak it seems, oh well, maybe another time."
Phoenix gave out a long breathe. She went on her way back to the dormsUpon entering, she almost gets completely drenched. Philip and Marcus were quarreling again. Phoenix just ignored them, but she couldn’t help but remember Ivan when he told Ms. Nightshade about those two that one day. She held on to her chest and gripped tightly. She went to her room. She once again found Eden lying soundly in bed...and Vivy making herself at home.
“She just loves to snooze,” said Vivy.
"Yeah."
Before Phoenix could do anything else, there was a knock on the door. She opened up and found Andy had come to visit her.
“We're going out and you two, uhh three, are coming as well!” she decided. “So get changed.”
This came out of nowhere.
"We're going out?! That sounds exciting!” Said Vivy as she bounced up and down.
“Where would we even go?” said Phoenix.
“Hello, this is New York after all.”
“That’s right; there are too many places to go.
“Yo, Green!” called Andy, Eden sat up in quickly. “Make yourself look pretty and let’s have a sip of Big Apple Juice.”
“…”
“See y'alls in five.”
Andy closed the door.
“…”
“…”
"You heard the lady!" said Vivy as she made her way to the exit. "See you guys in a moment!"
She was gone in a flash.
The two of them got changed anyway. Phoenix wore skinny casual pants, knee-high boots and a short sleeve checked shirt. Eden came out of the bathroom and when Phoenix saw her she almost exploded.
“So cute!”
Eden was wearing a dress with stockings and peep toe shoes. Before anything else could happen, there was another knock on the door. Phoenix opened and Andy had brought Logan. They were also dressed. Andy wore a jeans, sneakers, a t-shirt and a letterman jacket while Logan wore shorts, a Chicago Cubs top, a baseball cap titled to the side and a pair of Air Jordans.
“You look like a cowgirl,” Andy commented on Phoenix’s outfit. “But without the hat.”
“It's just a style I got from my dad who’s originally from Texas.”
“I see, on the other hand, check out little miss Sunrise.”
All eyes were on Eden. She never shows emotion but for this moment she did feel embarrassed.
"That only leaves-"
"I'm back," said Vivy.
"The unlimited power source," Andy finished.
Vivy was wearing a high collar crop jacket with the sleeves pulled up over a t-shirt with a rock ban on it, a skirt, thigh high socks and boots. Those were some extravagant combinations. She was also still wearing her goggles and gloves.
“Now then, off we go.”
The five of them left the building and made their way to the exit. They stood by a waiting area for a bus before one arrived in no time. Despite being far from the city or housing areas, there were still a few people inside. They got on and the bus took off. After 30 minutes they made it to the closet shopping Centre from the camp.
“For all the talk about being in New York this is as far as we stop,” muttered Phoenix.
She presumed they could visit Manhattan or Brooklyn but that will have to be on a free day, not like today when they'd just had training in the morning.
“Anybody up for drinks on me,” said Andy.
Eden’s head jerked up by the sound of free drinks, Vivy got over excited.
"Are you serious?! Then I'm happy to oblige!" she cheered.
“I thank you for the offer,” said Logan. “But I intend for something expensive, I’ll get one on my own.”
They went to a café, but Logan split up to be elsewhere. While Andy did hold up on her proclamation to pay for their drinks, she even wanted to pay for their meals but this time the other girls declined and bought their own.
Phoenix ordered a grilled chicken burger and fries with a cream soda; Eden will have the plate of spaghetti and a strawberry soda; Andy is having a Large steak and mushroom pizza with stuffed crust and a cola and Vivy, well, she's going all out on the Dagwood sandwhich that contained Cheese, pepperoni, egg, steak, lettuce and tomato along with an Orange soda.
“So, tomorrow’s our first sports training,” said Andy.
"I know! I can't wait!" chanted Vivy. "Me and Logan are going to show y'all what we've got in stored."
"Don't forget, your powers will be disabled when we're on the field."
"Yeah, I know, but believe me, we're quite good nontheless!"
"So how do they switch off our powers?" asked Phoenix.
"There'a special capsule we'll take that will just revert us back to normal human beings which will last two hours based on the dosage."
"Oh."
“Anyway, I hope you’ve signed up for Basketball, Lilywhite."
“Ah, yes.”
“Great, I’d join you but I’ve got to admit, I suck at it, and it’s got nothing to do with my height. It’s ironic considering how much I love the game.” said Andy, “but of course you’ll also be joining us for baseball too.”
“Y-yes.”
Eden sat there in silence as usual. She’s used to being a listener of conversations. However, she did have something to say at that moment.
“Have any of you ordered your costumes?”
The two of them looked at her.
"Oh, I did!" said Vivy.
“If you mean our hero costumes, that would be yes from me,” said Andy.
“Well, I did, but mine would be complicated, so it’ll take time,” said Phoenix. “And you?”
“If you’re wondering, the spandex suit is not my uniform.”
“Seemed like a no brainer,” said Andy.
“I’m also getting custom made shoes,” Eden said. “They're produced by an Enigma that makes objects grow.”
“Guess you no longer have the have to step around in the onsie.”
“Yes, you can imagine there are plenty of objects you can walk over that will hurt your feet even through the material.”
“And since we’re on the topic of hero costumes, what about hero names?”
"Ooh ooh, I already picked one for me," said Vivy. "I am going to be known as..."
“I never thought of one,” said Eden.
“Me neither,” said Phoenix.
“Well I on the other hand already picked one,” Andy pointed her thumb at herself. “Say hello to-”
“Flora the Explorer,” someone interrupted.
Andy's smile just dissipated.
“And I see you’re joined by Eight-armed freak, Hyper Sonic and The Gloomy Green Giant,” the person said while emphasizing Eden's last name.
Annabelle Curtis, Ares class, beautiful on the outside, a rotting corpse on the inside.
“Fancy meeting you here,” she continued.
Andy's smile returned, but not the happy kind.
“Indeed, but I’m afraid the West of Oz is that way,” Andy pointed to the exit.
Annabelle gasped while putting a hand to her chest. “How absurd, you can’t speak to me in such a manner.”
“Oh, you’re absolutely right your majesty,” Andy spoke in old English. “I’ll be sure to tend to your pet jabberwocky and the guillotine or whatever you use to “off with their heads”.”
“And I don’t consider Hyper Sonic as an insult, especially coming from someone with the same name as The Conjuring doll,” said Vivy.
“Spooky music starts!” cried Andy.
“Why I never!” Annabelle stormed out.
“Hee hee, got ‘em!” said Vivy.
“You know, I’m surprised she didn’t have any comebacks,” said Phoenix.
“That rich bitch had names for us pre-planned, she ain’t got anything to remark on the go.”
“What?” said Eden, bewildered by whatever Andy just said.
Their meals arrived soon putting a halt to their conversations.
$$$
After leaving the café they didn’t meet up with Logan who still hasn’t finished whatever she was doing. Vivy had wandered off on her own some time ago leaving just the three of them for now.
“Something tells me she's hit the arcade, I should have known since she brought her fingerless gloves,” said Andy referring to Logan. “And that expensive drink was likely a high caffeine, energy fueled mocktail.”
“A…what?” said Eden.
“Just imagine a Red bull mixed with raspberry cordial, dipped with lemon and ice.”
“Uuh…”
“Never mind.”
“Hey, maybe we should join-” said Phoenix but was interupted by a loud crash.
Screams of terror could be heard in that direction. The girls looked and saw what seemed to be a struggle against a criminal. A man with bright pink hair and beautiful blue eyes was standing in the middle of it all.
He held on to a woman with his arm wrapped around her shoulders, she clearly was not enjoying it as she tried pushing herself away. The man wore black coat over a shirt and tie and a white pants along with red formal shoes.
He never spoke, but kept a dastardly but subtle smile. All the people around stared but did not do anything at first. Nobody was sure what the man could be capable of especially in a world of superpowers. However, that didn’t stop a muscular man wearing military clothes to step in.
“I’m sure I don’t have to tell you to let go of the young lady,” said the army man
“As you wish,” the man sniffed her hair once then roughly shoved her aside. “Why I’m really here is for something more valuable.”
“By that logic, whatever it is you want, I don't suppose you’re intending to go shopping for jewelry.”
“Well done,” he clapped slowly. “Did you deduce all that with that large brain of yours.”
The army man cracked his knuckles. “Taunt me however you like, but cause any harm to a single person here, I’ll have no choice but to get physical.”
Neither of them spoke again as the military man stepped closer to punch his lights out. The girls quickly approached him before he went any further.
“Whoa there, soldier,” said Andy. “I know you’re a man defending our country, but let us heroes in training take care of things. By the looks of things, I’d say he’s no ordinary man.”
“Yeah right, I won’t have anyone put their lives at risk while I’m around, especially young girls.”
“What if said young girls were bigger than you?” said Eden.
Quickly moving his gaze from the pink haired assailant, the army man took a glance at all three girls, of course, one in particular stood out. Phoenix was in fact taller than him, even only by a couple of inches, that’s still impressive.
The army man shook his head as if dizzy. “No no, that still won’t do.”
Before anyone knew it, he charged for the pink haired man, his one hand seemed to be in the postion to grab his handheld gun from the holster if necessary. The girls tried to help him but it was too late, the man unleashed his ability, a liquid metal protruded from his arm before solidifying. Without a single hesitation, he stabbed the army man, the gun he grabbed in reflex dropped from his grip.
“Nooo!!” came a gut wrenching scream from Phoenix.
The pink-haired man just gave the one blow then proceeded to step back. Phoenix went over to the military man and knelt down before taking his hand.
“H-h-hey hey,” she noticed his name on a dog tag. “R-ralph is it? Listen to me, okay.”
Ralph had been stabbed in the chest, although his heart was safe he still had a ruptured sternum along with a penetrated right lung, blood was gushing out of his back meaning the blade went all the way through. He doesn’t have much time, if he doesn’t get medically treated as soon as possible he'll succumb to his injury. Ralph couldn’t speak, when he tried, the blood obscured his air passage.
“D-d-don’t try to speak, you’ll drown from your own blood!”
“Hey you!” shouted Andy. “I think it’s time we have a little chat, so, what is it you’re after?”
“Well, it’s not actually some thing, but rather some one,” he answered. “You said you were Heroes in training, correct? I’m sure you might know her. Tall, but not as much as the redhead over there, brilliant blue eyes and light brown hair, perhaps too hot too handle.”
Andy understood exactly who he meant, however, she doesn’t recall ever seeing her here, unless he mistook…wait, that’s it, he did get the wrong person. Annabelle is tall and has the same hair and eye color and while her enigma is not a pyrokinetic type it does have a lot of heat to it.
“I'm afraid the person you’re looking for is not present at the moment,” said Andy. “Would you like to leave a message?”
“Is that so? Well then, since I’m here, I might as well garner some attention, I’m sure she won’t allow any destruction regardless of whether she’s in the immediate proximity or several miles away.”
“You asshole! Eden!”
“Got it,” said Eden as she quickly got undressed before the man did anything else.
Once in her suit she immediately grew. The civilians near by had to step back to give her space. Once at full size she brought down her fist, but the man did not flinch and simply dodged her attack elegantly while retaining a smile. He formed another weapon from his arm and attempted to stab at Eden. He was too fast and Eden's size decreased her mobility. Fortunately, Andy had a little chit-chat with a nearby tree, it’s roots pushed out from the tarmac and held onto his ankles giving Eden time to move away.
“He's too quick!” Andy shouted up to Eden. “Maybe you should help evacuate for now, oh, and see if you can contact Logan and Vivy, they will be a great help!”
Eden, though hesitant not to assist in battle, nodded and then with her now booming voice told the people they should leave before anyone gets hurt. Eden put down her hand and assisted the children, elderly or disabled. She managed to get them on her hand then carried them to a safe distance and put them down.
Eden then brought her hand back to help Ralph. Once she picks him up she will have to be very careful not to squeeze otherwise he’s blood loss will accumulate. She slowly lowers her hand but the other man had different ideas.
“Tsk tsk,” he waved his finger. “Causing chaos is no fun without causalities.”
In a swift motion, he attacked the people nearby. Many got cut rather than stabbed since he couldn’t fully reach while still held by the branches. After remembering his own predicament, he sliced off the root like it was butter then ignored the girls and went for the people. Eden saw what he was doing.
“Sorry Phoenix,” said Eden. “You’ll have to stop his bleeding somehow.”
Eden quickly put down her foot in the man's way, this time he managed to get a hit on her. He had one of his arms forming a sledgehammer and despite Eden's size it still hurt, but she endured it nonetheless to keep everyone safe.
Meanwhile, Phoenix still held onto Ralph's hand. She forcibly had to suck out the blood from his mouth to help him breathe, a pink stain covered her lower face and neck. By now, someone surely called first respondents. How much time did he have left, the pool of blood surrounding them grew wider? Phoenix had no medical knowledge whatsoever, she wasn’t sure how to cover deep wounds. Ralph put his other hand with Phoenix's, he looked her in the eye.
“S-s-save…her…”
Ralph stopped shaking, his eyelids no longer blinked. Phoenix couldn’t accept it, she refused to acknowledge his…Phoenix's face suddenly morphed to an expression nobody would ever picture her having. She gave out a wicked smile.
