Super Gene Ⅱ: Evolution

Chapter 758 Immortal Laws

Lin Shen had spent quite a bit of money on the streets before, and he had seen plenty of shocking tricks. All those goods on display were definitely fake.

Lin Shen hadn't set his mind on winning, because he didn't understand Go, and he was also bad at Gomoku. If the Shaggy Old Celestial was out there setting up a stall, he must have some tricks up his sleeve, so Lin Shen was basically just handing over his money without any intention of winning.

When he was a child, no one played Gomoku on the streets, and it was only later that Lin Shen even learned such a game existed. He wasn't very familiar with it, and he'd never studied it.

Lin Shen handed over ten dollars to the Shaggy Old Celestial, then took a seat opposite him and started playing by the book.

Emperor Tianshu squinted his eyes as he played chess with Lin Shen, but in his heart, he was feeling quite moved, "Kid, I've gone to great lengths for you. To deliver this gift to you, I've even gone to the trouble of staging this whole scene. As long as you can win one game, you can pick anything later, and you'll be able to draw the Celestial Five Declines Technique, which will help you save your little life when you are sent to the Diman Tribe."

Originally, Emperor Tianshu had thought that since Lin Shen played Chinese chess so fluidly, Gomoku, being such a simple thing, couldn't be so difficult for him.

However, after just a few moves, Emperor Tianshu's expression had become quite peculiar.

What on earth was Lin Shen playing at? His moves were full of flaws, and he couldn't even spot the most basic traps.

Emperor Tianshu realized that Lin Shen simply didn't know how to play this game, and at best he had just learned the rules.

Emperor Tianshu held a piece in his hand, facing the dilemma of whether to place it or not.

Under normal circumstances, he needed only to place his piece at the intersection of two sets of three, which would create two sets of four. This way, no matter which side Lin Shen tried to block, he could make a five-in-a-row on the other side and win the game.

But today, Emperor Tianshu's goal wasn't to win but to lose, which left him feeling rather frustrated.

Luckily, Emperor Tianshu was someone who had been through many storms; this little matter was nothing to him. He discreetly placed his piece to the side, pretending to miss the opportunity to win.

Emperor Tianshu gave Lin Shen the chance to win, but Lin Shen failed to seize it.

After a few more moves, the corner of Emperor Tianshu's eye began to twitch uncontrollably, he had given Lin Shen several chances already. If Lin Shen still didn't win, even a blind person would suspect something was wrong.

Emperor Tianshu just wanted Lin Shen to win, not to appear so foolish himself, so he had no choice but to win this round.

"Big guy, incredible!" Lin Shen gave Emperor Tianshu a thumbs-up.

"Not bad," Emperor Tianshu's mouth twitched as he managed to utter just these two words, but internally he cursed, "Incredible my foot, even a three-year-old child could beat you with the way you play."

"Big guy, it's getting late, I should be going," Lin Shen stood up, ready to leave. He had no interest in playing chess here; he still needed to plan his visit to the Diman Tribe.

"Don't go, play another couple of rounds. You're improving so quickly, you should be able to win soon," Emperor Tianshu quickly said.

"Then let's play another two rounds," Lin Shen thought about it and agreed. A prize as valuable as the Mutated Jade Exquisite, losing just ten dollars to the other party, did seem a bit unfair.

"Alright, let's lose a few more." Lin Shen simply took out a hundred dollars and handed it to Emperor Tianshu: "Big guy, I'll play a few more rounds."

While they played chess, a little Celestial nearby who was playing came over out of curiosity to watch the two of them.

After watching for a while, the little Celestial suddenly pointed to the board and said, "Grandpa... if you place it here... place it here and you'll win..."

Lin Shen looked and sure enough, that was the case. Placing it where the little Celestial pointed would create two sets of four, leaving Lin Shen unable to block.

"Old man, you are really impressive," Lin Shen picked up all the pieces from the board, conceding the game.

Emperor Tianshu looked at the innocent-faced little Celestial, who was excited because Emperor Tianshu won the game, and his twitching grew even worse.

Since the little Celestial had helped Emperor Tianshu win the previous game, he became even more interested and occasionally gave pointers to Emperor Tianshu, allowing him to win several games in a row.

Emperor Tianshu was so frustrated that he almost wanted to spit blood; he had wanted to throw the game in Lin Shen's favor, allowing him to win quickly.

Who knew that a little Celestial like him would appear and make it impossible for him not to win.

The key was that this little Celestial was brimming with a sense of justice, thinking he should help the pitiful old man, Emperor Tianshu.

Emperor Tianshu had never thought that losing a game of chess could be so difficult.

"Grandpa, let's call it a day, I need to get going," Lin Shen played a few rounds, felt that it wasn't very interesting, and got up to leave.

He wasn't in the mood to play today, he just couldn't get into it.

Emperor Tianshu looked at the little Celestial, who showed no signs of leaving, and only felt a headache coming on, but thankfully, he thought quickly. He stood up and said to Lin Shen, "It seems your luck isn't great today, having lost so many games. How about this, I'll give you a consolation prize. Draw anything you like, and whatever you get is yours."

Lin Shen shook his head and said, "I appreciate the gesture, but I'll pass on the prize."

Right now, he lacked nothing. He had money, he had people, and he even had several top-tier pets. There was really nothing he wanted.

What he wanted most was to become Immortal as soon as possible, but advancing to Immortal wasn't something that could be done quickly.

First, he needed to increase his Base Mutation Rate to one hundred percent; second, he needed to comprehend the Cosmic Laws so that his own strength could resonate with the Cosmic Laws. Only then could he draw Law Power directly from the cosmos, synchronizing with it and reaching the Immortal Level.

The thing about comprehending Cosmic Laws is that it depends on talent. Some extraordinarily talented people might even grasp a Cosmic Law from reading a book.

Others might live for thousands of years and still not comprehend the Cosmic Laws.

Most Nirvana Beings might spend their entire lives at the Nirvana Level, unable to advance any further.

Lately, with nothing much to do, Lin Shen had been reading some works on the experience of comprehending Immortal Laws.

In summary, it all came down to one point: you need to have talent.

At low levels, hard work and resources might suffice, but to reach the top level, not only are hard work and resources indispensable, but you also need talent.

Lin Shen wasn't very confident about his own talent; he was somewhat worried about his inability to become Immortal.

However, after reading many experiential insights, Lin Shen realized that comprehending the Immortal Cosmic Laws wasn't about randomly understanding any Cosmic Law.

Instead of saying it is comprehending Cosmic Laws, it is better to say it is discovering one's own abilities and understanding the relationship between oneself and the cosmos.

Only by understanding one's own abilities can one clarify the relationship between those abilities and the Cosmic Laws, and thereby comprehend the Cosmic Laws.

Simply put, you must understand what your Nirvana Attributes are to comprehend the corresponding Cosmic Laws.

There is a cause-and-effect relationship here, and one can't just comprehend any Cosmic Law randomly.

However, even with the same Cosmic Law, comprehenders with different levels of Comprehension will understand different aspects of the Law.

Take the most common Law of Strength, for example; some might comprehend the ability to control gravity, forming a gravity field and manipulating it.

Others may grasp some kind of force-restriction type of Immortal Law, which allows them to control the interaction of forces.

Like the white-haired Minotaur, his comprehension of Eternal Force, which is a branch of the Law of Strength. Although it is somewhat effective, his direct combat ability is not particularly strong.

Immortals have divided the Cosmic Laws into four levels: Past Law, Reality Law, Future Law, and Immortal Law.

In fact, the white-haired Minotaur had only grasped the lowest level, the Past Law, which is considered the weakest among the Immortals.

Understanding this, Lin Shen felt even less confident because his own abilities were unclear to him, so how could he possibly use them to comprehend Cosmic Laws?
