Super Gene Ⅱ: Evolution

Chapter 589: The Legacy of the Dongli Clan

Lin Shen asked about some noble people with the surname Jiang and about his third brother, but unfortunately, Wei Shoucheng and Wei Chengxin knew only so much, and were unable to provide any useful information.

The Death Powder still hadn't been fully digested. Wei Shouxin asked about some things in the universe, and Lin Shen told them what he knew about the situation and the recent cosmic ranking event.

Wei Shoucheng and Wei Shouxin listened with a kind of longing, asking many questions about the battle for the cosmic rankings.

They too wanted to participate in such battles, to strive for a place for humanity in the universe.

Alas, they could no longer leave their mother planet, and entering the universe was no longer possible for them. Continue reading at empire

"It's not entirely impossible to re-enter the universe though," Lin Shen said thoughtfully.

"Does the mother planet have a teleporter capable of Nirvana Level transmission?" Wei Shoucheng and Wei Shouxin were both startled.

They certainly wanted to leave the mother planet and join the battle, but if such a teleporter really existed, it would pose a threat to the safety of their home.

They would rather stay put than see such an event occur.

"For now, there shouldn't be. As for the future, who knows," Lin Shen said, uncertain about Gourd Mountain, and so he didn't dare speculate carelessly.

The troubles of the Wei Family were already abundant; they likely lacked the capacity to deal with anything else. To speak of it would only add to their worries.

The Death Powder regained its vitality. The four of them once again teamed up with the Death Powder to devour the clones of Changhen Dongli, and the number of clones inside the black sphere was dwindling.

After more than twenty hours of effort, they managed to open most of the black spheres, devouring the clones inside, and only the clone in the black armor was left untouched.

Lin Shen allowed Death Powder to rest for a while before getting ready to devour the clone in the black armor.

Wei Shoucheng approached with the pearl, enticing the black sphere to open. Death Powder coiled around the sphere, with its front end enlarging as it opened its mouth to bite down on the black-armored clone.

The invisible shield shattered, and just as Death Powder was about to swallow the clone sitting cross-legged inside the sphere, its form suddenly froze.

Lin Shen's pupils constricted sharply. He saw the black-armored clone raise an arm, palm upwards, supporting the underside of Death Powder's maw, forcefully holding up Death Powder's head to prevent it from lowering and devouring the clone.

"That clone does indeed have a problem!" Wei Shouxin exclaimed.

Boom!

The onlookers only saw that with a forceful push of its palm, the black-armored clone tossed Death Powder's body into the air, throwing it off the chain and crashing down.

Although Death Powder had the ability to fly, there was an anti-flight restriction in the underground space. Unable to take to the air, Death Powder smashed directly into the ground, creating a large pit and making the entire valley seem to tremble for a moment.

Wei Shoucheng, standing next to the black sphere with one hand on the chain and the other summoning the Phoenix Plume Knife, sent a streak of purple Blade Qi cutting toward the black-armored clone within the sphere. The purple Blade Qi transformed into a Purple Qi Phoenix, with the sound of the blade singing and the phoenix crying, reaching the black-armored clone in an instant.

The black-armored clone's raised hand pressed down lightly, and upon contact with the Phoenix Blade Qi, the formidable Blade Qi dissipated like smoke in his hand, vanishing into nothingness.

Lin Shen hurried over and grabbed Death Powder by the tail, pulling it back into a javelin shape.

Turning his head back toward the black sphere, before he could attack again, the black-armored clone within the sphere had already vanished without a trace.

Thump!

A thud echoed as Lin Shen and the others turned their heads to look, only to see the black-armored clone landing on the ground opposite them, with the ground cracking beneath his feet like a spider's web.

His pair of black compound eyes were coldly fixed on the Death Powder in Lin Shen's hand.

"Who are you? Why do you want to kill me?" the black-armored clone suddenly asked.

His question stumped Lin Shen and his companions. Why kill him seemed a simple query, yet when it came to answering, they didn't know where to begin.

"Do you know who you are?" Lin Shen stared at the black-armored clone and asked.

"Of course, I know who I am." The black-armored clone, not understanding Lin Shen's meaning, frowned and said, "Do you know who I am?"

"You are Changhen Dongli," Lin Shen replied.

The black-armored clone's eerie compound eyes surveyed Lin Shen and said, "It seems you have found the right person. Why do you want to kill me?"

"Because you want to kill us too, so we have to kill you," Lin Shen wanted to clarify whether this black-armored Changhen Dongli was indeed the clone of the one they had encountered before.

"When did I ever want to kill you?" Changhen Dongli frowned.

"Do you know there are many Changhen Donglis? You are just one of them. The one who wants to kill us is another," Lin Shen succinctly said.

"What has it got to do with me if he wants to kill you? Why don't you go after him instead of coming to kill me?" The black-armored Changhen Dongli actually knew there were many Changhen Donglis.

"Aren't you all one and the same?" Lin Shen and his companions were somewhat taken aback.

"Of course not." The black-armored Changhen Dongli cracked a smile and said, "Many have this misconception, it seems you are also mistaken. Although we are all Changhen Dongli, we are independent entities with no connection to each other. He is he, I am I, the one who wants to kill you is him, you should go find him instead."

"You're not a clone?" Lin Shen's expression grew complex.

This Changhen Dongli seemed not as malevolent and murderous as the previous one and appeared very agreeable.

If all the Changhen Donglis in the black sphere were like this, they might have done something rather inhumane.

"It seems you have a deep misunderstanding," the black-armored Changhen Dongli explained. "We are all Changhen Dongli, not clones. For the Dongli Clan, it's natural to give birth to many identical individuals every time, so we look alike, but we are not clones."

"Do you mean to say you're a newly born Changhen Dongli?" Lin Shen immediately caught a loophole in his speech.

The first Changhen Dongli had obviously been born many years ago and had even joined the God-making Race.

This Changhen Dongli claimed he'd just been born, but he seemed to know a lot. How could this be explained?

The black-armored Changhen Dongli saw through Lin Shen's thoughts and said with a smile, "Our Dongli Clan has inherited memories; each Dongli inherits the memories of the previous generation, or rather, the memories of countless generations before, so we have no juvenile phase like other species. We are born almost god-like, omniscient and omnipotent from the start."

Lin Shen and his companions were taken aback, not expecting the Dongli Clan to have such a capability.

This made Lin Shen realize at once that perhaps the first Changhen Dongli they had met was not the real Changhen Dongli, nor the one who had joined the God-making Race, but also just one who had inherited the memories of his predecessors.

"Have you killed other Changhen Donglis?" the black-armored Changhen Dongli suddenly said.
