Super Gene Ⅱ: Evolution

Chapter 548: Corpse

Tian Buluo saw through Lin Shen's thoughts and laughed, "Lin, you've got it wrong. Although we are both from the Celestial Race, we have always operated on the principle that the able should prevail. There have been many precedents in history where princes succeeded the Heavenly Emperor, but there were also many who weren't princes that took the throne. Our branch has no direct blood relation to the god or the Heavenly Emperor."

After a pause, Tian Buluo continued, "Moreover, I've heard that the god and the Heavenly Emperor mummified at the summit of Luoja Snow Mountain and didn't enter their tombs, so it's no harm just going to take a look."

"I see," Lin Shen said, feeling puzzled, and asked, "For someone like the god and the Heavenly Emperor, who must be immortals, how could they mummify if they are already immortal?"

Tian Buluo explained, "The so-called immortals, their bodies are indeed almost indestructible, but their lifespan is still limited. In fact, there are ways to extend life, but what really causes immortals to die is the Death Tribulation." Continue your journey on empire

Tian Buluo schooled Lin Shen on some knowledge about immortals: immortals' bodies were indeed hard to destroy, and their lifespans were generally very long. If they had some special methods, there were quite a few immortals who lived for tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of years.

Besides trying to extend their lifespans, the most difficult thing for immortals to deal with was facing the Death Tribulation.

Ordinary people couldn't sense the Death Tribulation; it was a problem faced only by immortals.

Every so often, immortals had to endure the trouble of the Death Tribulation. Many immortals within the Celestial Race had left descriptions of it.

From their descriptions, the Death Tribulation appeared as a kind of light. When it arrived, a beam of light would shine upon the immortal it targeted.

No one knew where this light came from, nor where it ended.

All things in the world were incapable of stopping the arrival of this light. Even if they hid inside the core of a star or used Immortal Level materials to craft a chamber as solid as a planet, that beam of light would still shine upon the immortal facing the tribulation.

Immortals called this beam the Light of Death, visible and palpable only to them.

When the Death Tribulation came, others, even if they were right beside the immortal, could neither see nor sense the presence of the Light of Death.

But within that light, the immortal's bodily functions would rapidly deteriorate, and they might even die outright.

Those who were able to survive the Death Tribulation were all terrifying beings without exception.

However, the Death Tribulation did not occur only once. Once one became an immortal, the Light of Death would return after some time, each occurrence more potent than the last.

Even the mightiest of immortals inevitably faced the moment when the Light of Death would slay them.

Those immortals who had lived for tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of years survived by enduring countless Death Tribulations.

Such immortals seldom interfered with affairs of the universe anymore because they were either undergoing or preparing for the Death Tribulation.

At their level, the Light of Death was unimaginably horrifying, and they needed to make extensive preparations to have a chance of surviving the next Death Tribulation.

It is said that the god and the Heavenly Emperor passed away because they failed to surmount the Death Tribulation, thus mummifying atop Luoja Snow Mountain.

For some reason, the god and the Heavenly Emperor never entered their tombs, and their corporeal bodies remained at the summit of Luoja Mountain.

Tian Buluo, never having visited Luoja Snow Mountain, was also unsure if these accounts were true, but this was how the clan's records portrayed them.

Confirming that visiting Luoja Snow Mountain did not violate Celestial Race's rules and with Tian Buluo insistent on going, Lin Shen, after some thought, agreed to accompany him.

As they traveled upstream along the branch of the waterfall, Lin Shen could distinctly feel the energy in the air growing more intense.

Upon glimpsing the main channel of the River of Chaos, which seemed as vast as the ocean and nearly endless, the energy in the air had actually formed a mist visible to the naked eye.

Such mist could only be seen in a few tributaries like Silent Residence where energies converged, but here it was everywhere.

However, the energy here was obviously very turbulent; breathing it in made it difficult to absorb directly, instead causing Lin Shen's respiratory tract to feel as though it was being sliced with a knife.

This was even with him using his carapace. If it were breathed directly into his lungs, they would probably rot away.

No matter how beneficial something is, excessive amounts can have adverse effects, unless one's body is strong enough.

Lin Shen's body was excellent, and under the automatic operation of Evolution Theory, his Base Mutation rate actually increased.

"If I could stay here a bit longer, my Base Mutation rate and the number of Life Base reincarnations would quickly rise," Lin Shen thought with delight.

"Lin, are you still holding up okay?" Tian Buluo stopped and looked at Lin Shen with concern, asking.

"Not bad," Lin Shen nodded. This kind of place suited him perfectly. If he were to activate the Super Base Pattern, the amount of the World's Force he could absorb would be unimaginably immense.

As the two progressed upstream along the main river channel, the fog grew thicker. Eventually, it became so dense that they couldn't see their hands in front of their face.

Continuing further upward, light could no longer penetrate, and darkness engulfed everything around them.

Tian Buluo took out a Spirit Base resembling Aladdin's Lamp, and once it lit up, it illuminated a small area nearby.

"The area around Luoja Snow Mountain is shrouded in the River of Chaos all year round. Without special navigational methods, it is nearly impossible to reach Luoja Snow Mountain." The two had given up flying. Tian Buluo led the way ahead and said, "This Bright Divine Lamp I have is one of the few Ascension Level Spirit Bases that can illuminate the River of Chaos. Without it, we couldn't possibly reach Luoja Snow Mountain."

Just as Lin Shen was about to say something, his watch vibrated. He found that his Base Mutation rate had increased by another point. In such a short amount of time, it had already gone up by two points.

After walking for a while longer, Lin Shen was horrified to find that beyond the area lit by the Bright Divine Lamp, the black fog had become as impenetrable as metal walls. Touching it with his finger, it felt incredibly hard.

If the Bright Divine Lamp were to be extinguished now, they would instantly solidify within this tangible River of Chaos, with no chance of escape.

Lin Shen now regretted his decision. If he had known how dangerous this place was, he wouldn't have come.

Tian Buluo had also become visibly more cautious, clearly not as confident as before.

Fortunately, the two of them reached Luoja Snow Mountain without incident. Although the River of Chaos dark as iron walls enveloped everything around them, Luoja Snow Mountain seemed to be protected by an invisible shield, untouched by the chaotic fog. Moreover, the snow on the mountain shone faintly, resembling a white, luminescent mountain in the night.

"Take this stick of incense. We must descend the mountain when it burns out; otherwise, our lives will be at risk. On the way up, the incense must not leave our hands, and it must not be extinguished, or we will face the same deadly fate," Tian Buluo took out a box from his backpack and carefully pulled out two clear, jade-like incense sticks with a strange fragrance. He lit one with the Bright Divine Lamp and handed it to Lin Shen.

"Prince, tell me honestly, is there really no problem with us entering Luoja Snow Mountain?" Lin Shen suspected that Tian Buluo had deceived him.

"As long as we don't do anything foolish, there won't be any problems. You have to trust me," Tian Buluo said earnestly.

"How about... I wait here for you... I won't go up," Lin Shen felt that this guy was unreliable no matter how he looked at it.

"We are already within the forbidden area of Luoja Snow Mountain. It's the same whether you go up or not," Tian Buluo realized he had misspoken and quickly explained, "Don't worry. There are no rules forbidding entry to Luoja Snow Mountain. The absence of guards here should tell you that I haven't deceived you."

"I trust you for nothing. Does a place like this even need guards?" Lin Shen felt speechless inside, knowing he'd been bamboozled.

"Ahem, we are good friends, after all. Just accompany me up the mountain. I'll be honest, I am a bit nervous coming to a place like this alone," Tian Buluo pleaded.

Lin Shen, feeling helpless, said, "Then let's go up."

Having come this far, if he told others he hadn't gone up, they probably wouldn't believe him.

"Let's hurry then. The incense won't last forever, we need to get back before it runs out," Tian Buluo said, overjoyed, and hurriedly pulled Lin Shen up the mountain.

Lin Shen followed Tian Buluo up the mountain, but didn't notice anything particularly unusual. After passing the mid-mountain, the mountain was covered in thick snow and glaciers, no different from a normal snowy mountain.

It didn't take long for them to reach the summit. Tian Buluo looked around but did not find the remains of the gods and the Heavenly Emperor.

Lin Shen also scanned the area but likewise didn't discover any remains.

"Could the records in the classics be wrong, or have the remains of the gods and the Heavenly Emperor been moved?" Tian Buluo muttered to himself, "Or could they have been buried under the snow?"

"Let's search," Lin Shen said, glancing at the incense in his hand which had burned less than a quarter. There was still some time left.

The two began to search around the summit. Whenever they saw a pile of snow, they would dig through it to check, but they found nothing.

As they moved along, Tian Buluo, who was searching everywhere, suddenly shouted with excitement, "Lin, come here, have we found it? Could this be the remains of the gods and the Heavenly Emperor?"

Lin Shen thought to himself, "What could I tell by looking? I'm not of the Celestial Race, I have even less connection with the gods and the Heavenly Emperor. I'd be surprised if I could recognize him."

Despite his reservations, Lin Shen still went over. Anyone who could meditate into death here was likely no other than the gods and the Heavenly Emperor.

Lin Shen walked over to Tian Buluo and looked at the spot he was staring at. It should have been a snow pile, but Tian Buluo had dug out a small portion, revealing a figure.

Lin Shen didn't see what the figure looked like, because atop it, he saw heavy pixelation.

"What the hell... pixelation on a corpse..." Lin Shen thought, feeling chills run down his spine. He had no desire to sleep next to a corpse.
