Chapter 10: The Golden Thunder Eagle, Lei Fei
"Assimilate"
*Ding!
[Thunder Eagle Shard ×100 Assimilated]
[Thunder Eagle — unlocked]
[Summon Token has been added to your Inventory]
[Side Quest 1: Obtain a Second Monster – Completed!]
[300 Coins have been added to the Balance.]
[Thunder Eagle Egg has been added to the Summoner Shop]
[New Product Added: Blood Coagulation Pill]
[2 Remaining Thunder Eagle Shards dismantled. 20 Coins have been added.]
[Lottery Wheel has been refreshed]
The string notifications filled the screen. Lin Fang exhaled slowly, grinning. "Alright, there's also a new product in the store."
He then checked the updated coin balance. It showed 388 Coins.
He wanted to rest for the night without an anxious heart, and his gamble has been rewarded as the goddess of luck smiled upon him.
Not only did he finally unlock a second monster, but he also managed to unlock a fresh product in the shop, and even had enough coins to continue business without draining his money from the bank.
"Okay, first things first. The price."
"Summoner's Shop, Open."
He scrolled down through the Summoner's Shop, eyes narrowing as he scanned the listings again.
As he went past the two existed items, his eyes fell on the third one, the illustration of a gray-slated egg with electrical sparks running all over it.
Thunder Eagle Egg
Element: Wind, Lightning
Grade: Epic
Potential: Level-40 (Lord Tier)
Price: 200 coins.
A fair price, he supposed, despite the fact that it wasn't a Legendary egg. Its listed grade was Epic, with a potential reaching Lord Tier, Level 40 max.
"Hm…" he murmured.
His finger hovered over the egg's icon, examining the animated model again.
Lin Fang tilted his head. "Even if it doesn't become as strong as Po, it is of dual elements, mobility, and can attack from the sky. If its growth is anything like Po, if it really can fly with me on its back…"
He glanced at the snoozing Po, whose baby panda body was curled into a plump little ball. Cute and precious, yes. And with its healing attribute, extremely valuable for support and defense roles.
Lin Fang muttered, eyeing the Thunder Eagle's display again, "it could bring a different kind of advantage."
Below the Thunder Eagle listing, another item caught his attention.
Item: Blood Coagulation Pill
Price: 3,000 Coins
He blinked, taken aback.
"Three thousand! Uhh… what's with this inflated price, all of a sudden?"
He clicked on it instinctively.
A window popped open, elegant and dark red, describing the product:
A rare pill-based elixir that converts the essence of one's blood into mana, temporarily unlocking the ability to form a spirit bond with a monster.
Duration: Lasts for 60 minutes
Side Effects: Dizziness, iron deficiency, nausea, and extreme fatigue for 12–18 hours.
Lin Fang's brows furrowed. "A pill that lets even a plainfolk become a monster tamer or a hunter…" He leaned forward. "No wonder it's expensive. It's perfect for someone like me. But the side effects are a bit much, and the price… even from the store earnings point of view, for one hour and such side effects for the rest of the day, who would be willing to spend 300,000 credits? But…"
He glanced toward the baby panda again. For a second, the joy from his earlier earnings seemed thinner and fragile now.
"Forget about selling it, I can't even have the guts to purchase one of them and list it in the market." He muttered.
He clenched his jaw. "For now, let's keep it aside, just like the Growth Pill."
"Lottery Wheel."
As Lin Fang proceeded to look at the changes the Lottery Wheel has undergone, he spotted a new image that now occupied the spots that once belonged to Thunder Eagle.
The image is of a majestic white lion with angelic wings, its body sleek, and its eyes glowing.
He clicked on it.
Winged Lion
Grade: Epic
Attributes: Fire, Wind
Potential: Level 40.
"Okay, another dual-attribute creature with Lord Tier potential. But, judging by its image, it can fight avian battles like the thunder eagle and ground battles like Po. Seems good but…"
Lin Fang's eyes flicked toward his coin balance again, 388 coins, which is just enough to give him 7 tries.
"Nah, I had enough for the night. We can aim for this when I have more money," he whispered. But a second later, he lay on his back and groaned. "I need more and more money to get things I want in the Summoner's Shop, and earning more money makes my heart anxious. Ugh… it feels so pathetic. Anyway, let's be done with this thing."
He got up again and went back to the Summoner's Shop.
*Ding!
[Purchased: Luminous Panda Egg. 100 coins have been deducted.]
[Purchased: Thunder Eagle Egg. 200 Coins have been deducted.]
He returned to his NovaMart dashboard and adjusted his listings.
Luminous Panda Egg – Price: 40,000 Credits
Thunder Eagle Egg – Price: 100,000 Credits
"Let's see how far this market stretches."
Lin Fang raised the price of the Panda Egg even further, from 25000 credits, and put a massive price tag on the Thunder Eagle Egg.
Then, as if remembering something he had forgotten earlier, he opened the inventory, where a Thunder Eagle summoning token is resting, waiting for him to hatch it.
He clicked on it.
[Hatching the Egg]
*Ding!
Light exploded from the inventory, filling the room for a second. Even Po stirred and opened its eyes, blinking its large eyes as a quiet screech echoed in their ears.
His palm-sized, fledgling eagle emerged, feathers already shimmering with sparks of electricity, except that the electrical sparks aren't bluish white but golden in color. Its wings were even bigger than Lin Fang's arm, quite larger than its body size, a bit unusual to look but the eagle fledgling managed to curl its wings in a perfectly normal way.
Meanwhile, a notification appeared.
[You have successfully hatched: Golden Thunder Eagle]
[Please assign a Name.]
"Hmm… wait a second… Golden Thunder Eagle? Isn't it just Thunder Eagle?" Lin Fang was slightly taken aback, and he swiftly inspected its details.
Unnamed
Species: Golden Thunder Eagle
Grade: Legendary
Potential: Level 50 (King Tier)
Element: Lightning, Wind
[Please assign a name.]
Lin Fang's heart skipped a beat. He froze.
"Wait, what…? Legendary?"
He blinked rapidly, fingers moving to reopen the Summoner Shop.
He clicked on the Thunder Eagle Egg's listing again.
Thunder Eagle Egg
Grade: Epic
Potential: Lord Tier (Level 40)
He murmured. "The one I got is different from the one in the shop. Why?"
He stared at the little eagle, which puffed its feathers proudly once again, electricity dancing across its wings.
"Earlier, when I got Po, I remember the system mentioned the evolution." Lin Fang muttered. "Is it also the same way?"
The system pinged gently, once again.
[Please assign a name.]
Lin Fang didn't think long to name the eagle. "Lei Fei," he said softly. "Like thunder flying."
The eagle let out a sharp, proud cry, as if it approved.
Lin Fang shook his head with a smile. "I just got lucky again…"
He reached out, running a gentle hand over the soft, golden-edged feathers. They sparked slightly, but didn't hurt him. "First Po and now Lei Fei, two legendary grade beasts. Do, basically, the system is giving me the good stuff... and pushing the weaker versions to sell publicly?"
He clicked back into the shop listing and double-checked the Thunder Eagle Egg again.
[Epic Grade – Lord Tier Potential. 200 coins.]
Lin Fang immediately shook his head as something clicked inside his mind. "No, if that were the case, then why did the Luminous Panda I'm selling… also have King Tier potential?"
He glanced at the baby Po trying to reach its paw as if patting the fledgling eagle, the latter screeched, swatting its chubby paw away, touching its head. Even though it was just born, it already looked proud.
"Maybe… It's because I got it from a newbie package and not earned it through the lottery wheel," he murmured. "We can form a theory after I hatch the Winged Lion, too."
A beat of silence later.
"Whatever the case…" Lin Fang shook his head and smiled faintly. "I now have two Legendary familiars. As long as I get them to Commander Tier, I could venture into the wilderness on my own, whether to hunt down the monsters or solo the dungeons. Leveling up is not a big deal for me, though. I have Growth Pills. All I need is more money… Ugh… just thinking about earning itself is stressing me out…"
He leaned back and stretched, cracking his knuckles one by one.
"Let's not think too much... focus on things one after another."
A soft smirk crept up his face as he lay down for the final time and closed his eyes. He imagined walking into the wilderness, riding a Giant Eagle while a giant Panda is clearing up the field. He exhaled slowly, a small laugh escaping his lips. "This house… This house is ridiculously lucky for me."
Po let out a tiny sneeze, waddling up to his chest and shutting its eyes while Lei Fei tilted its head in confusion before curling up beside him, going to sleep instead of exploring the room.
