Chapter 313: Geneva

Anyone could be the killer. William wasn't scared of the mysterious killer. He believed that if he had the chance to confront the killer, he would win. But what if he couldn't find the killer?

In a town like that, with no security, William wasn't safe in any location, be it a tavern, a bar, or even a nighthouse. No place offered him any sort of protection, and no one was there to help him.

Before, he was confident and certain he would find the assassin, but now? Now, William had no idea.

He kept looking around him. Any movement from the citizens made him anxious.

"How can I find this person?" William thought.

William had many skills that could aid him in combat and had keen senses, too, but nothing that would help him see through illusion magic. He knew some items could help him, but leaving the town to look for those items wouldn't work, as he would only find them in the capital.

"What if I lure the assassin to the forest? Would it follow me?"

While staying in the city, William had many suspects, as the killer could be anyone, but if he left the town and camped in the wilderness around the city? That way, anyone there had to be the killer!

But the problem was not going to the forest and surviving there; the problem was how to leave without making it too obvious?

An idea popped into his mind.

William visited one of the many bars in the city and started drinking. Like, a lot of drinking. For alcohol to do anything to his body, it had to be a tremendously high amount.

Drink after drink, William kept going non-stop. The others in the bar couldn't believe what they were seeing. How was someone drinking that much without dying?

Eventually, the person who served the drinks said, "I can't give you anything else. Sorry, but this is for your own safety."

William was somewhat drunk. He got up from the wooden bar chair and left. Then, the next part of his plan started, and that caused a commotion!

His targets were the people selling stuff in the middle of the street. He yelled and annoyed them. Eventually, the few guards who protected the city had to act.

The merchants selling goods were the ones generating money in that city. They had the guards in their hands.

William got expelled from the town. "Get the hell out of here drunk piece of shit. Return when you are sober."

That was what the guards told him as they kicked him out. William then entered the dense forest that surrounded the city.

It was a dense forest, a place hard to traverse, but he still went there anyway. There was a small path there. Someone must have cut that path before.

There were a few mountains around that city. No one lived in those mountains, as it was hard to climb them and get down. Also, the weather up in the mountains was even colder, so it wasn't a place that everyone could endure.

William climbed one of those mountains. The mountain, unlike the forest, wasn't as dense, so it was easy to find a place to camp for the night. He easily climbed it with his powerful body. Having only one arm didn't stop him.

The view from up the mountain was gorgeous, as usual. William found a nice place to set up his camp. He had a tent stored inside his magical pouch. Making a campfire was easy, too. After around thirty minutes, his camp was basically done.

He sat around the campfire, resting. William tried to look as clueless as he could. It was his attempt to finally lure the killer.

At first, William believed it wouldn't work.

"This is too stupid; no way the killer will fall to this," William thought.

However, he was wrong. When the night was just coming, someone showed up. Or rather, an attack came his way. Just like before, it was an arrow aimed straight at his chest, at his heart.

But this time, William was more than prepared for the attack. He didn't block it, though. What he did was twist his body and let the arrow hit closer to his shoulder, away from any vital points. Then, he fell to the ground and stayed there.

At first, there was no sound but the wind. Then, footsteps. Someone was approaching from his direction. William kept his eyes closed, acting as if he had suffered a killing hit.

The mysterious killer got near his body and even kicked him to check if he was alive. That's when William acted. He got up from the ground as quickly as he could and gave the mysterious killer a bear hug!

With his strength far greater than that of the assassin, there was nothing the assassin could do. William saw that it was a woman.

"Surprised?" William said, "Did you really think you would kill me that easily?"

The woman moaned in pain. She reached for her dagger that was hanging on her waist. She managed to cut William a few times. And as she was stabbing him in the back, she realized that he didn't stop holding her. In fact, he was holding her as hard as he had been before.

"What the fuck?" she said.

When she faced William, she saw him smiling. Smiling like a manic who wasn't shaken by the constant stabs on his back. He said with a cruel voice, "You are not leaving with your life, no matter what you do."

When she realized there was no getting out of that situation, the woman tried to talk with William,

"Why are you looking for me?" she asked.

William frowned, "so you are Geneva Karl?"

"Yes, I am. Why? What the fuck do you want?"

"What the fuck do I want? Why did you abandon your son? Your husband? What the fuck are you doing hiring your old teammates?"

The woman, suffering from the pain, managed to say, "What are you saying? I never married, and I don't have a son."
