Summon of the Bloodline

Chapter 9: Chapter ( 9 )

After returning home and organizing what he needed, Zhen Chen called his assistant, Little Dragon, and headed out to the medicinal herb plantation. Since Yu Xue Yin and Xin Lan's group hadn't arrived yet, Zhen Chen decided to enter the office and take a short nap.

As soon as he lay down on the sofa in the lounge, Zhen Chen fell into a deep sleep. His brain cells were exhausted from the constant use of his mental energy.

A hand pinched his nose, causing Zhen Chen to wake up gasping for air. When he turned to look, he saw Xin Lan sitting cross-legged beside him.

Her black mini-skirt and long black stockings accentuated her slender, attractive thighs. Zhen Chen couldn't help but admire her beauty.

"Sister Xin, it's no wonder you were the beauty queen of the school. With such gorgeous legs, other girls probably refuse to wear mini-skirts because of you..."

Xin Lan tugged Zhen Chen's ear and teased,

"Alright, spill it! Which club did you go to last night, and which girl kept you up so late that you're this tired?"

"Ah... you've got it all wrong... I didn't go to any club. I just went to the temple..."

Xin Lan, knowing about the mountain temple, asked,

"The temple on the mountain?"

Zhen Chen nodded vigorously.

"Yes, I went there to pray. Sister Xin, I even prayed for our safety on the journey."

Xin Lan was pleased by his words and gently ruffled his hair.

"Oh, you clever little Chen. Come here, let me reward you for being so thoughtful..."

She leaned in and softly kissed his forehead. Zhen Chen was so flustered that his entire face turned red.

"Keke, the kid's blushing!"

Xin Lan pinched Zhen Chen's cheek affectionately before heading out.

In truth, Zhen Chen was always a bit nervous around Xin Lan. Ever since they were kids, she loved teasing him whenever she visited his house. Despite her mischievous nature, Xin Lan cared for Zhen Chen more than her own sister. This deep bond made Zhen Chen feel a strong attachment to her.

Zhen Chen's thoughts were simple. He would care for those who cared for him. If Xin Lan ever faced danger, no matter how scared he was, he would protect her without hesitation. Besides, he had the protection granted by the Iron Palm King.

When Zhen Chen stepped outside, Yu Xue Yin and her team were already prepared. Seeing Zhen Chen, Yu Xue Yin called out,

"Chen, ride with us."

Zhen Chen handed the car keys to Little Dragon and got into Yu Xue Yin's car.

Yu Xue Yin pulled Zhen Chen to sit beside her. She opened her laptop and explained,

"This herb is called the Fairy Heart Flower. It's a key ingredient for a new beauty product. If we can cultivate this plant, we'll be able to grow it on a large scale."

"This one is called the Red Dragon's Whisker. Its long red stamens make it unique. Our client has ordered as much as we can supply. Cultivating this herb could bring us significant profits."

"This is the Twin Coral Herb. It grows in the cold, dark depths of caves and is extremely rare. It always grows in pairs. When we find it, we need to document the environment thoroughly—temperature, humidity, light exposure—and take soil samples."

Yu Xue Yin was a hardworking and meticulous person. Zhen Chen imagined her mind filled with work schedules, financial records, and annual profit reports.

Zhen Chen listened attentively as she explained the herbs, nodding like a lizard. After about half an hour, Yu Xue Yin finally stopped. Zhen Chen quickly opened a bottle of water and handed it to her.

"Sister Xue Yin, you're amazing. You must be thirsty after all that explaining. Have some water."

Yu Xue Yin took a sip and said,

"Chen, focus on your work. A man who can't achieve success in his career won't be able to lead a family in the future."

"You're still young, so you need to work harder. Look at your peers—they've already achieved some success. You've been working for almost a year now, and you haven't led a single project yet. Don't compare yourself to others, just look at your older brother. He's already famous for his research. Your uncle, who's not even forty, is a highly successful businessman. Don't you feel ashamed that you haven't accomplished anything yet?"

Yu Xue Yin's scolding left Zhen Chen feeling frustrated.

"Ah... what's the point of mortal success? I'm destined to stand above ordinary humans..."

Though Zhen Chen grumbled inwardly, he didn't dare say it out loud.

Seeing Zhen Chen's sulky expression, Yu Xue Yin felt a mix of amusement and irritation.

"Hmph! If you were my brother, I'd make sure you learned your lesson properly," she thought to herself.

Yu Xue Yin had no siblings. Her father had disappeared when she was young, and her mother had struggled alone to achieve success. Yu Xue Yin had also worked hard to build her own business.

Her mother had never revealed the reason behind her father's disappearance, only telling Yu Xue Yin not to blame him and that he hadn't left because he didn't love them.

Whenever Yu Xue Yin thought of her mother's struggles, she would silently cry. No matter how difficult life was, her mother had never given up. Yu Xue Yin deeply respected and admired her mother's resilience.

Yu Xue Yin was determined not to give up, no matter how tough things got. She had inherited her mother's strong will and refused to let anyone look down on her or her family.

This was why she wanted Zhen Chen to succeed. She couldn't stand seeing him underestimated by those around him.

Yu Xue Yin didn't have time to care deeply for any other man, but she genuinely wanted Zhen Chen to thrive.

This was also why she often scolded him out of frustration.

When Zhen Chen was younger, he was incredibly endearing. Every time he saw her, he would pull out candies from his pocket and insist,

"These are for Sister Xue Yin!"

Now, that little boy had grown into a handsome young man, sitting beside her with a sulky expression.

Yu Xue Yin sighed, leaned back in her seat, and closed her eyes for a nap.
