The sun was unusually warm for Gotham, and Harley Quinn was loving it.

Her hair was tied up in its iconic pigtails, this time dyed soft pink and faded blue. She had on a bright yellow hoodie with cartoon cats on it, sunglasses too big for her face, and a pink leash in hand, guiding a tiny, overly pampered dog—Pudding.

It had been three weeks since Harley had smashed someone's face with a wine bottle. Three whole weeks of grocery shopping, sitcom binging, and even recycling. Life was good. Or at least, she kept telling herself it was.

Then came trouble.

"Hello, Harley," said a calm voice behind her.

Harley stopped mid-skip. Her dog barked once and then resumed sniffing a sewer grate.

She turned around to face a sharply dressed young man—way too young to be wearing something that expensive without selling kidneys. His black suit was tailored, his black shirt open at the collar just enough to hint at confidence—or arrogance.

"Who the fuck are you?" she asked bluntly, squinting at him.

"Jason. Jason Anderson. Pleasure to meet you."

"Pleasure's all yours, hun. I don't know ya, don't wanna know ya, and you don't look like my parole officer—so BAY-BAY!" she chirped, turning and strutting away.

Jason kept walking behind her.

"So how's life, Harley? The mundane, totally normal, no-batswinging kinda life?"

She halted in her tracks. A twitch worked through her jaw.

"Harley," she muttered to herself, "ignore this pussy-looking kid. You can do this. You don't need to turn his skull into salsa."

Jason smirked. "Oh, so the urge is still there... but you're controlling it?"

She spun on her heel. "Leave. Me. Alone."

"I'm just curious," he said coolly. "Who's in control these days? Crazy Harley Quinn? Or Dr. Harleen Quinzel?"

Her eyes sharpened dangerously.

"LOOK, BUDDY," she shouted, pointing at him. "I am blood-Free—three months without spillin' any! You say one more cute little psycho-analysis, and I will BURY you in the fuckin' ground."

"Fair enough," Jason said, raising his hands. "Just had to tease you a bit. I'm not here to mess with your parole. I'm here to offer you something."

She groaned. "If you say suicide squad, I'm gonna bite you."

"Nope," Jason said. "A team. Not blackmailed, not manipulated. Not run by Amanda. A real team. A team of heroes."

Harley blinked.

Then burst into laughter. "NOPE! Nooo thank you! I ain't going back to that life. Not even the hero kinda life. I'm out. OUT. Joker's in Arkham, so I'm free. Free to live normal! So beat it, rich boy!"

Jason stayed calm. "Harley. We both know Joker isn't going to stay in Arkham. He'll break out, like always. And he'll come looking for you. And like always... you'll come running."

Her face tightened. "I'm different this time, okay!? I've changed!"

Jason nodded. "So I've heard. You worked with Waller. Suicide Squad. You even saved the world. Twice. Got your freedom. Then teamed up with the girls—'Birds of Prey,' right? You did it three times, Harley."

She said nothing.

"It must've felt good," Jason continued, stepping closer. "Being a hero. Being respected. Having a team that actually wanted you. So why not again? I could use someone with your talents."

She looked away. "Me...? I ain't talented. I'm just a crazy chick who's good at killin' people and making really, really bad choices."

Jason's voice softened, sincere now. "That is a talent. And the right guidance? Can turn chaos into something real powerful. I'm not here to control you, Harley. Just to give you a better direction."

He reached into his pocket and handed her a black card—elegant, with a silver embossed serpent curled around a sword. Jason Anderson – The Cursed Ones.

"Think about it," he said. "That life... or the one I'm offering."

He turned and walked away, Pudding barking at his shoes once before turning to chase a squirrel.

Harley stared at the card.

Confused. Intrigued.

...

The inside of the clocktower was stripped of rust and dust, retrofitted with a blend of sleek tech and gothic aesthetics. Crimson lighting accented the stone walls, and a digital table stood at the center, surrounded by steel chairs. It wasn't perfect. It was raw, gritty—just like them.

Jason stood with his hands in his pockets, eyeing the group before him.

Red Hood sat with his boots kicked up on the table, helmet off, chewing on a toothpick and already annoyed.Katana stood with her arms folded, expression unreadable, calm yet alert.Livewire lounged in a levitating hover chair, legs crossed mid-air, sparks occasionally flicking off her fingers as she blew a bubble of gum.

Jason finally spoke.

"Alright, welcome to the clocktower. Consider this our... makeshift base. Still under renovation, but it's secure, off-grid, and ours."

Red Hood glanced around and muttered, "Cozy, if you like the vibe of a Dracula lair."

Jason smirked. "It's a work in progress. Anyway, we've got one month before the official announcement. One month before the Anderson family unveils its first official hero team to the world."

Katana raised a brow. "So... we pretend to be heroes?"

Jason shrugged. "Pretend? Nah. We act like heroes. But we fight like wolves. We handle things the clean, legal way when we have to—but we don't flinch when it's time to put trash down."

Livewire chuckled. "Finally, a job with benefits and morally flexible standards."

Jason nodded. "Glad you get it. In the meantime, we need a track record. A résumé. I've already lined up a few targets—"

SLAM!

The tower doors banged open.

"Yoo-hoo~! Anyone miss me?"

All eyes turned as Harley Quinn skipped in, grinning, her dog Pudding on a pink leash and a duffel bag over her shoulder.

Jason blinked. "...You accepted?"

Harley smirked. "Eh, figured it'd be fun. And hey, I didn't kill anybody this week, so I deserve a treat."

Red Hood stood up instantly. "Oh, hell no."

Harley squinted. "Well if it ain't the brooding bullet-boy himself. Jaybird! Still pretending you ain't got issues?"

Jason sighed as Red Hood muttered, "Tell me this is a joke."

"Love you too," Harley winked, tossing her bag on the floor. "Ooh! Tatsu! Still slicing souls with that creepy sword o' yours?"

Katana nodded, her voice calm. "Only those who deserve it."

Harley turned to Livewire, smirking. "And you—Leslie, right? You're still alive? Waller didn't fry your circuits?"

Livewire gave a smirk back. "Please, I was the circuit. Barely made it, but hey, I'm shockproof now."

The banter filled the room fast. For a moment, the chaos almost felt like chemistry.

Jason clapped loudly.

"Alright! Glad everyone's bonding. Really. But let's bring it in."

He walked over to the center table, activating a holographic display. Two familiar faces popped up—one with half a ruined face, and the other with a monocle and smug grin.

"Two-Face. Penguin. Our first official mission."

Red Hood leaned in, suddenly serious. "Going for the big fish, huh?"

Jason nodded. "They've been getting bolder. New arms deals, new alliances. I want to hit them hard—shut down their operations and send a message."

Livewire crackled with energy. "Ooh, I like messages. Especially the explosive kind."

Katana placed her hand on her blade's hilt. "Say the word."

Jason looked at each of them—criminals, warriors, broken pieces of different lives—and smirked.

"From now on, we are The Cursed Ones. And we....will show Gotham what we're made of."
