They all hid inside the door, listening to Filch's footsteps gradually fading away outside the door, and they all breathed a sigh of relief.
"Great, we finally got rid of Filch," Harry wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and said.
"Yeah, this time it's really thanks to Hermione," Draco also nodded.
Hermione raised her chin slightly. "Nothing, it's just a simple unlocking spell."
"But why was this room locked?" Ron suddenly asked. "Not many people come to the corridor on the third floor."
"By the way, don't you smell something awful?" Cassandra covered her nose and said with disgust.
Ian turned around, looked at the drooling three-headed dog, and said faintly, "I think there must be a reason why this door is locked, and that reason is behind us."
Hearing this, the group turned around and looked. Then, they saw the drooling three-headed dog behind them, staring at them with a covetous look.
"R-Run!"
Someone shouted, and everyone bolted toward the door.
However, they were still a step too late.
The three-headed dog pounced on them, and with a wave of its huge claws, it shut the door firmly.
The group could only huddle in a small corner, clutching their wands and staring at the massive creature in front of them.
"What should we do, Ian?" Draco looked at Ian with a pale face. "Will we die here?"
Cassandra clung to Ian's clothes, her voice trembling. "Ian, what... what should we do?"
Hermione, seeing this, hugged Ian's waist directly. "Ian..."
Ian's mouth twitched, and he looked at the group helplessly. "Are you all scared now? Then who suggested running in here in the first place?"
Everyone turned and pointed at Harry.
Harry: "..."
"Well, I... I didn't know there was a monster locked in this room," Harry said, looking sheepish. "If I had known, I would never have come in."
"It's useless to argue about this now. Let's focus on how to get out," Hermione said, taking a deep breath and forcing herself to calm down. "Ian, do you have any ideas?"
"Don't worry. If it wanted to eat us, it would have done so already," Ian said, eyeing the three-headed dog's sturdy limbs and sighing. "It may just want to trap us here and alert its owner."
Hearing this, Draco and Cassandra visibly relaxed.
"As long as we're not about to die, I can deal with this," Draco muttered.
"What should we do now? Just wait here?" Ron asked, his face a mix of frustration and worry.
Ian silently called out to the system in his mind. System, exchange for magical animal affinity of the same level as Newt's.
[Ding! The host has deducted 20 Charm points. Magical animal affinity successfully exchanged.]
As the system's message echoed in his mind, Ian felt something shift in his body, though it was so subtle that he almost doubted anything had changed.
Ian took a cautious step forward and stretched out his hand toward the three-headed dog.
To everyone's shock, the three-headed dog, which had been glaring at them moments ago, retracted its sharp claws and fangs. It suddenly wagged its tail, its fierce demeanor melting into a friendly, almost affectionate one.
One of its heads leaned down and gently nuzzled Ian's cheek.
"This..." Everyone stared in stunned silence.
"It seems to like you," Hermione said, her tone filled with disbelief. "Ian, how did you do that?"
'Oh? I got some points after joining the Quidditch team, Hermionde.' Ian laughed in his heart.
On the outside, Ian just raised his eyebrows.
"Maybe it's because I'm more handsome?"
"Yeah, that makes sense," Hermione and Cassandra said in unison, nodding seriously as they exchanged glances. "Good-looking people are always more popular."
Draco, Harry, and Ron: "..."
Is this really the time to focus on that?
Ian gently patted one of the three-headed dog's heads. "Good boy, can you let us out? We got here by mistake."
The three-headed dog seemed to understand his words.
It whimpered softly, then turned and nudged the door behind it with one of its heads.
With a "click," the door that had been firmly shut was easily pushed open by the massive creature.
Ian peered outside the door, then turned back to look at the three-headed dog. "Well, can we go out now?"
The three-headed dog whimpered again and nudged Ian gently, as if urging him to leave quickly.
"Alright, we're leaving now and won't come back," Ian said with a warm smile. "Thank you."
With that, Ian led the group out of the room and back into the corridor.
The moment they returned to the corridor, they all exhaled deeply, finally feeling as though they had escaped disaster.
"Thank Merlin, we're finally out," Draco said, leaning against the wall and breathing heavily.
Ron nodded, his face still pale. "Yeah, I thought we were done for. Why would the school allow something so terrifying here?"
"Are your eyes just for decoration?" Hermione snapped, rolling her eyes. "Didn't you notice the trap door under the three-headed dog? It must be guarding something important."
Cassandra nodded in agreement. "Granger's right. The school wouldn't put such a dangerous creature here unless it was protecting something valuable."
"What could it be?" Harry murmured.
"Whatever it is guarding, it's none of our business," Hermione said seriously. "What happened just now should teach us a lesson: don't get involved in things you shouldn't. Be careful not to risk your life unnecessarily."
"Exactly. If it weren't for Ian, we'd have ended up in the jaws of that three-headed dog," Cassandra added, crossing her arms. "Besides, we promised it we wouldn't come back."
"Harry, no matter what the three-headed dog is guarding, we shouldn't be thinking about it now," Ian said, looking at Harry meaningfully. "Curiosity can sometimes kill the cat."
Harry was silent for a long time before finally saying, "Alright, alright. Since you all feel that way, I won't think about it anymore."
"Good. Now, let's get back to bed—we have classes in the morning," Ian said, stretching. "I'm exhausted."
The group nodded, splitting into two and heading back to their respective dormitories.
...
The next morning, Ian woke up early, washed, and headed to the Great Hall for breakfast with Draco.
After the events of the previous night, everyone seemed a little out of it, especially Harry, who sported dark circles under his eyes, clearly having had a restless night.
"Hey, Harry, what kind of nightmare did you have last night?" Ron asked through a mouthful of sausage. "Are you still thinking about that three-headed dog?"
Harry groaned, rubbing his eyes. "I dreamt I was being chased by the three-headed dog all night. It was terrifying."
"Don't worry, Harry. With Ian around, that three-headed dog wouldn't hurt us," Hermione said reassuringly, taking a sip of pumpkin juice. "But we can't go there again—we promised it, remember?"
"I know," Harry said with a sigh. "It's just... I'm still a little curious about what it's guarding."
"Don't be curious," Hermione scolded, glaring at him. "Curiosity kills the cat—have you forgotten?"
Harry slumped in his seat. "I haven't forgotten."
"Anyway, you should listen to Ian more, Harry," Hermione said seriously. "Ian is always right—his advice is the best."
Harry: "..."
If I Harry remembered correctly, he is the older brother, right? Why does it feel like his and Ian's identities have been reversed?
"Harry, eat quickly, we have a herbology class later." Ronald held a big chicken drumstick in each hand, his cheeks bulging like a hamster, "If you don't eat quickly, it will be too late."
Harry immediately stopped thinking about anything else and started eating in big mouthfuls.
There is no rush for the three-headed dog, he will know what the three-headed dog is guarding one day.
