Chapter 531: Do Not Read
"Wha--What are those?" I could hear exclamations full of wonder and surprise from the audience. If the books left by Joshua Michelson had any truth to them, then this world wasn't very advanced in the world of magic and aura.
So perhaps seeing a spell of this scale was a little too... godly for them.
Even she, Tamara, was looking at me even when her authority was wearing thin.
"Haha." I chuckled and looked her in the eyes, "Go ahead. Deliver your sentence."
I didn't really care if she were to watch the procedure down to the teeth; she would never be able to do it as perfectly as I could.
The eyes glowing white looked at me before they began to shine brighter and brighter until everyone in the room had no other choice but to close their eyes.
It was at that moment that the door to the room banged open, but it was the door that led to the stands, not the judgment platform. The person to emerge from them was none other than the red-haired woman who immediately began to chant a spell.
In about four seconds, which was impressive given it was a fifth circle spell, she had prepared a fireball spell.
Without any hesitation, she shot it at me. On the other side, the old men began to grunt and scream in pain.
Seemed like the sentence was carried out. Which also meant I was no longer under the protection of Tamara.
"Sonar."
"Teleport."
Both of the spells were activated in an instant. Sonar worked in a few nanoseconds, just enough time for the fire spell to be inches away from my face, but...
In an instant, my view changed, and what welcomed me the next moment was a grassy plain where cattle could be seen in the distance.
"Haa..." I exhaled deeply and made my way to the tree nearby. I flopped down with my back against it and took a deep breath again before...
"Kugh!!!"
My internals shook, and I vomited a good amount of blood along with chunks of my intestines. The pain was beyond anything I could imagine, and I didn't see a way of living in my immediate sight.
All things considered, I had taken a lot of risks today. There was always a chance this body was convicted of the crimes it was accused of, in which case, the gamble solely relied on the fact that the goddess would differentiate between me and Alucard, the original owner of this body.
The other risk was waiting for the trial altogether. I didn't have to attend, and could have fled once the books were given to me.
The final risk was bearing the pain of teleportation. Teleportation was a spell that broke one's body down to the molecules and then rearranged them once they had arrived at their desired location.
Doing so with this body was a giant risk I couldn't afford. But, as it turned out, the body was still enough to bear the strain of teleportation, but...
"The pain is going to kill me at this rate." I could help but chuckle at the irony.
My internals were a mess and bleeding profusely. There was no way I was going to live through that. Well, it was a short time... but, before I lost my consciousness, I wanted to say just one thing...
It wasn't... fun... at all...
~~
"Someone explain to me what happened." A man with a crown and emitting an overbearing pressure asked the men and women present in the room, the men and women being none other than his children.
"I..." Robina was about to begin when...
Shaa!!!
An aura wave overwhelmed the entire room and everyone in it, mostly targeting Robina, making her grunt in pain.
As for the rest, three of the men were just scared, while one of them simply moved to cover his wife. The other two women, one being the woman who was protected, and the other, the sister of Robina, cast a mana wave immediately to protect her.
"I don't want to hear another word from you." The man with the crown spoke.
"May I, Father?" The man who was unaffected by the aura wave and moved to protect his wife volunteered to speak. The man who was none other than the crown prince, and the eldest son of the emperor of the Du'cart Empire, Lucius von Du'cart.
"Speak." The emperor permitted him to explain.
"At the event of judgment in the church yesterday, two strange occurrences occurred. One was the casting of spells never seen before. Now, according to the magicians present at the scene, mainly my wife, two spells were detected simultaneously."
"One of them was a familiar spell to detection, only at a much higher scale. We believe it was to scope the surroundings. The exact details are yet unknown, and the mages are still looking into it."
"The second spell that was cast was believed to be a teleportation spell."
"Teleportation spell?" The emperor interjected. As far as he, or anyone else, knew, teleportation spells could only be cast at the cost of the tremendous amount of materials and teleportation arrays that also required a plethora of materials and resources to be built.
"Precisely. It was a teleportation spell, not an array. Regarding the subject, we contacted the headmaster of the Avalon academy, but he sent a reply in simple words..."
The crown hesitated for a second before he replied, "It's not possible."
"..." The emperor remained silent before he asked, "And the second occurrence?"
"I apologize for using such words when a goddess is concerned, but I believe that the goddess of justice, Tamara, was summoned. The people of the church confirmed that it was indeed her. Even the Saintess confirmed her advent." The crown prince replied.
"Summoned, you say?" The emperor asked. He was not a strict churchgoer, but everyone believed in the presence of gods. Such a case had never been seen before where a god or goddess was summoned at the calling of a person, even if the person in question was a Saint or a Saintess.
He then looked at his son and asked, "And what is the strange thing about it?"
Other than them being both never-before-seen occurrences, there was something else that bound them together. The emperor wanted an explanation regarding that.
"It's the boy of Joshua, Father. The illegitimate one." The crown prince replied, and as he did, Robina gritted her teeth loud enough for everyone to hear.
The emperor didn't need to be explained everything. What happened next was obvious.
"Haa..." The emperor sighed, "So the boy escaped, the books are nowhere to be found, and three of the church's cardinals are dead. I assume the church has contacted us about that?"
"They have, Father." The crown prince replied.
"My foolish daughter." The emperor couldn't help but say. "All you had to do was kill the boy, but you had to escalate the issue. Now our plan to befriend the church has not only gone down the drain, but our relations have taken the worst damage they ever could."
"None of this would have been a problem had she not..." Robina began to speak in her defense, targeting Angeline, but the crown prince immediately interjected, coming to his wife's defense.
"I would like it to be known that my wife was under a mana oath and could only hand over the books to the one she was tasked to." The crown prince said which was a valid point, and no one spoke about it.
"Haha." The emperor chuckled before he looked at Robina and said, "You created this mess. Now clean it on your own. If you can't, then..."
The emperor's expression turned expressionless as he asked, "I don't need to tell you what would happen then, do I?"
Robina's nails dug into her flesh as she replied, "Yes, Father."
"Lucius." The emperor turned to the crown prince.
"Yes, Father," Lucius replied.
"Find the boy. Alive. He has too much to offer to be simply killed." The emperor instructed. Lucius nodded and said, "I shall do my best, Father."
"The rest of you." He then turned to the rest of his children and said, "The one who will bring me the boy alive will get my heartfelt gratitude, understood?"
Everything was a competition. The one rule of the Du'cart family. At the whim of the emperor, any of his children could fall into the bottomless pit or rise above the clouds in less than one night.
"Yes, Father!" The emperor's children replied in unison.
Just as they finished the conversation and the emperor was about to dismiss everyone, the door of the room was opened by a knight in red and white armor, and he entered the room.
"What?" The emperor asked.
"Your Majesty, the Saintess candidate is here to see you." The knight replied.
"Miller's girl? What does she want?" The emperor asked.
"She states that she has a solution regarding the current situation with the church." The knight replied.
"Does she now?" The emperor mused before he said, "Send her in. Let's hear what she has to say."
The knight left, and shortly after, a girl entered the room, a familiar girl with silver white hair and eyes. As she did, she greeted the emperor as per the decorum.
"Your majesty, the great emperor. I, Martha Miller, Saintess candidate of the church, pay my respect to you."
