Chapter 79: Promoted to Lieutenant
Thinking of this, the squadron leader began to understand why Luo Zheng had caught the attention of the proud Lan Xue and couldn't help but say, "You little rascal, your advantage is undeniable. Now, get back and write your report, and later I'll deal with you."
"Yes, sir." Luo Zheng quickly saluted, agreed, and looked towards Lan Xue.
Lan Xue stood up and said softly, "Go, train well."
"Wait for my news." Luo Zheng spoke with a double meaning, his eyes resolute, sweeping away his previously playful demeanor as he gave Lan Xue a solemn military salute before turning and leaving.
Lan Xue smiled understandingly, a smile that was very soothing and solid, which made the squadron leader somewhat irritated as he cursed, "You really have prospects, actually fancying such a simple soldier. There are so many fine gentlemen in Beijing lining up for you, I really don't understand what's so good about him?"
"You know better than anyone what's inside your heart," Lan Xue said with a smile.
"Alright, I won't play guessing games with you. It's just the two of us here, tell me the truth, what's really going on?" The squadron leader's expression became serious as he asked earnestly.
"You first tell me what intelligence you have gathered," Lan Xue also became serious and asked.
"The undercover sent a message; those bastards suddenly changed their minds just before they set off. A group of people came looking for them, and after some conversation, those bastards changed their plan and increased their manpower. The undercover hadn't had the chance to get the information out, and he's still trying to figure out why. That's all I have," the squadron leader said, somewhat troubled.
"Someone leaked the specific time and personnel of your operation. The people who suddenly showed up got the intelligence and found the drug dealers, leading to this outcome," Lan Xue said coldly, the murderous intent in her eyes making the squadron leader shiver, shocked by the intense killing intent of his cousin.
However, the squadron leader, very curious, asked, "It looks like you know everything, so tell me. I'm your cousin, we're family after all, knowing a bit more helps me to assist you."
"The Song family," Lan Xue said coldly, uttering two words.
"The Song family?" The squadron leader was taken aback, then his face changed dramatically, and he immediately said, "You mean Song Yang was aware that Luo Zheng was going on a mission, and he leaked the news, so the Song family found people to target Luo Zheng?" Seeing Lan Xue nod, the squadron leader's face turned grim, no one wanted instability within, nor did they wish to have traitors endangering the lives of their comrades. A fierce aura erupted from him, like a drawn sword, fierce, wild, and unstoppable.
"Enough, put away your aura," Lan Xue said coldly, "Don't intervene in this matter. I'll handle it myself. Any rash action without solid evidence will only give others something to exploit. Make sure you protect him."
"Understood," the squadron leader responded, and the intimidating aura he had displayed instantly vanished.
"Arrange for my departure," Lan Xue said calmly.
"Not going to say goodbye to him?" The squadron leader asked in surprise, seeing the determined look on Lan Xue's face, he knew his sister was different and, without asking further, immediately made the arrangements. In a short while, a helicopter carried Lan Xue away.
Luo Zheng, who was feasting and drinking with Blood Wolf and the others, seemed to sense something. Looking outside the window, he raised his wine bowl and silently offered a blessing before loudly calling out, "Brothers, come on, fill it up, let's have another round."
That night, Luo Zheng and the others got completely drunk, with no one to manage them or anyone who would, as everyone understood the bonds formed in life-and-death situations. They also needed to relax after the tensions of the battlefield. The next day, Luo Zheng wrote a long report and knocked on the squadron leader's office door.
Seeing Luo Zheng, who had rested for the night, looking much better, a trace of guilt surged in the squadron leader's heart. With Song Yang betraying intelligence, he felt somewhat responsible for the oversight in his management. He spoke more amiably and indicated for Luo Zheng to sit down and talk. He took the report, placed it on his working desk, and said, "I'll look at the report later. First, tell me about your thoughts on the mission, just speak freely."
"I felt powerless and less skilled," Luo Zheng said truthfully, thinking of Blood Wolf and his disciple's formidable capabilities and blurted out the eight characters.
"Oh?" The squadron leader, unaware of what had happened during the battle with Blood Wolf, and with Shan Hu and the others also in the dark, of course, couldn't know either. He was very eager to ask, but then he thought of Lan Xue, sighed, and said, "Fine, let's not talk about that. It's good that you came back alive. What are your plans moving forward?"
"Training," Luo Zheng said seriously.
"Good, if you need anything you can come to me directly. Train hard, and don't let a certain person down." The squadron leader said with a satisfied smile, "Your new uniform, rank, and certificate will be delivered to you. Congratulations, you have become a glorious lieutenant. How do you feel?"
"When can I be a general for once?" Luo Zheng said with a grin.
"Scram." The squadron leader cursed with annoyance, but he chuckled himself, discovering his mood had once again been led by Luo Zheng. Surprised, he looked Luo Zheng up and down and suddenly noticed that Luo Zheng's eyes were brighter and much sharper than before. Could it be that his strength had increased again after returning from this mission?
"Thank you, squadron leader. I'll take my leave then," Luo Zheng said with a chuckle.
Leaving the squadron leader's office, Luo Zheng planned to get a good sleep and replenish his energy. As he walked through the training grounds, he saw Song Yang training in combat. In Song Yang's eyes, Luo Zheng spotted a hint of shock—a shock that said a lot. A murderous intent flashed in Luo Zheng's eyes, but he quickly concealed it and strode towards the dormitory area. A gentleman's revenge can wait ten years.
Song Yang, who was training, also noticed that flash of murderous intent from Luo Zheng, his heart tightened, and his blood ran cold, as if he had been marked by the Death God. The sensation was highly uncomfortable; Song Yang watched Luo Zheng walk away, quickly shook his head to dispel the negative emotion, and continued training.
Back at the dormitory building, Shan Hu and the others were there. Seeing Luo Zheng return, they all greeted him. Shan Hu asked, "The military is giving us three days off to adjust psychologically. What are your plans?"
"Three days off?" Luo Zheng was surprised and then said, "I have nowhere special to go, just training. What about you guys?"
"The brothers have made plans to go out in the city. Want to join us?" Shan Hu said with a smile.
"No, you guys go ahead," Luo Zheng directly refused. After witnessing the ferocious combat strength of Blood Wolf and the others, Luo Zheng knew he still had a large gap to bridge. There was no time to waste; he had to seize every moment to improve his strength.
"Alright, do you need anything? We can bring it back for you," Shan Hu said with a laugh, not pressing the issue further.
After contemplating, Luo Zheng thought that the military provided all living supplies, and he had access to training equipment and materials. If he needed anything, he could use the computer room to look it up. With nothing to buy, he declined once more, tidied up a bit, and walked towards the back mountain. There was also a waterfall there, which Luo Zheng had discovered long ago and where he would train almost every day for the past few months.
