Chapter 30: Lan Xue Pays Attention
Hearing this seemingly fierce but inwardly timid scolding, Luo Zheng chuckled silently to himself, questioning what "uniform distribution" meant and how it supposedly left everyone without food to eat. However, seeing that the instructor was compromising, he decided to give some face and seized the moment to feign admission of his mistake, saying, "Officer, I was wrong. I won't dare to do it again."
"Knowing your mistake is good; don't repeat it. You may go," said the instructor, as Luo Zheng provided a way out, and he couldn't be too harsh.
Thus, the issue was resolved. After this covert battle, Luo Zheng knew he had won but also that the consequences would be severe. From now on, he needed to be extra careful. Seeing Song Yang's sinister gaze and then glancing at the instructor, Luo Zheng had his suspicions but chose not to voice them. He turned and headed toward the cafeteria. Everything resumed as normal, but Luo Zheng, Song Yang, and the instructor all knew that things had already changed.
┅┅.
Beijing, in a high-end villa.
The night sky was murky, the moonlight soft like a veil, gently drifting through the window and casting light upon the vanity, where a breathtakingly beautiful woman was styling her smooth hair, lazily examining her reflection. Her eyes, clear-cut in black and white, flickered, pondering something unknown; she wore a white silk nightgown. Though the gown was loose, it could not conceal her magnificent figure, especially the perky breasts capable of intoxicating any man in the world.
"Thud thud thud!" Someone knocked on the door.
"Who is it?" the stunning beauty asked indifferently, her tone somewhat cold. She glanced at the clock next to her, it was eleven at night already. At this hour, no one should be disturbing her, she thought, frowning slightly and speaking discontentedly, "Is it Mom? I've gone to bed already, let's talk tomorrow."
"Ice beauty, open the door for your dear mom, your ever-praised sister is here," a pleasant voice sounded from outside, though the words seemed a bit discordant with the tone.
Upon hearing the voice, the beauty's frown immediately relaxed, her icy features warming slightly. She quickly went to open the door and saw a regally beautiful woman standing there with a ponytail, dressed smartly in a casual leather outfit with a black mini skirt and thigh-high boots—indeed, it was her sister. She stepped aside to let her in, closed the door behind them, and asked, "Little sis, have you arrived? Did you find out everything?"
"I mean, Lan Xing, is that any way to treat someone? I'm your own sister, not your subordinate. It's already something that I work for you without even a sip of water, but at least let me catch my breath, right?" the visitor complained, flopping down on the pristine bed, sprawling out comfortably and groaning, "Sis, your bed is just so comfy. I think I'll stay over tonight."
"Lan Xing, if you don't start talking business, I might just throw you out," Lan Xue said displeased.
"No wonder people call you the Ice Beauty behind your back, utterly charmless. If it hadn't been for your request three days ago to dig up dirt on a man, I might have doubted your orientation," the woman named Lan Xing said cheerfully, noticing Lan Xue's expression turning frosty, she quickly raised her hands in surrender, "Alright, I'm scared of you, geez! Can't I just talk? With your skills, finding out something should be easy, why all the secrecy?"
"You know why," Lan Xue countered with a glare, her tone full of dissatisfaction.
"I know, I know, it's because you're afraid of the Song family finding out. You have nothing to do with that good-for-nothing from the Song family. It's just Dad trying to marry you off to them, and it's not even finalized yet. If worst comes to worst, just marry into the family, and then castrate that good-for-nothing," laughed Lan Xing, ending with a self-satisfied giggle.
"Dressed up like a lady but actually a witch. If you aren't going to talk business, get lost," Lan Xue said discontentedly.
"Fine, let's talk business," Lan Xing agreed with a playful laugh. "I've already had someone check it out—"
"Wait, can the person you asked be trusted?" Lan Xue asked skeptically.
"Big sis, you don't have to be so mean, do you? If it weren't for the fact that you're my dearest big sister, I wouldn't bother with this nonsense. What do you think I do? You know perfectly well. This morning, the military logistics sent over some supplies, and I know the person who delivered them. I had him ask around for me. The information is totally reliable. Do you want to hear it or not? If not, I'm out of here," Lan Xing said discontentedly.
"Go on," Lan Xue said gravely.
"Forget it, I won't stoop to your level. Who asked you to be my only and dearest big sister," Lan Xing said, resuming her playful expression as she continued, "Your sweetheart was tricked by the instructor, made to cook every day, and barred from participating in any training. Song Yang, that loser, has also joined the Training Team. Could it be he's purposely messing with your sweetheart? When rivals meet, it's like fireworks hitting Earth."
"If you spout another half-nonsensical phrase, I'll rip your mouth apart," Lan Xue snapped, her face turning icy as a hint of murderous intent flashed in her eyes, though she quickly regained her composure and inquired further, "Tell me the details."
"The details are that the instructor is Uncle Song's soldier. Uncle Song definitely sent word, and the instructor purposely tormented your sweetheart. Fearing the instructor might slack off and also wanting to add glory to Song Yang, that loser, Uncle Song transferred him to the Training Team today. Your sweetheart had his cosmos burst, went on strike from cooking, and ran off without a trace—nobody could find him. Maybe you taught him those sneaking skills?" Lan Xing teased, looking at her sister with a grin.
"Stick to the point, talk business," Lan Xue said discontentedly.
"Fine, business," Lan Xing pouted and stuck out her tongue, making a face, not the least bit intimidated by Lan Xue's threat, and then continued, "Later, your sweetheart showed up on his own in the training field and confronted the instructor. I heard he said a few words that made the instructor wary—quite interesting."
"Trying to digress again?" Lan Xue quickly reminded.
"Oh? Not digressing, hehe," Lan Xing laughed playfully. "The final outcome was a compromise; they're back to the original arrangement where your sweetheart continues to cook, and the instructor won't pursue the issue further. From what I see, if this keeps up, your sweetheart might not learn anything. They say that Song loser was incredibly annoyed. I'm sure he'll create obstacles, and when he team up with the instructor, restricting the ammunition, no way can the gun training succeed," she said, looking at Lan Xue with eyes full of curiosity, surprised that her proud sister had fallen for someone and becoming very curious about the unseen Luo Zheng, wondering if she should sneak out to check him out. But then she remembered Lan Xue's warnings and quickly dismissed the thought to avoid discomfort.
"Remember, what's between him and me is only for you to know, or we can no longer be sisters," Lan Xue admonished.
"Got it, you're so naggy. You used to barely say a word every few days, but recently you've changed completely. Does that Song loser really not know about you two?" Lan Xing asked curiously.
