Chapter 243: Hidden in the Embassy
The fact that the assassin got away was expected; if they could be easily captured, they wouldn't be called assassins. Upon hearing the news brought by the Drunkard, everyone just smiled nonchalantly and didn't mind. It was already quite an achievement to have annihilated the Wata Guerrilla. The Drunkard closed the door carefully and looked at Luo Zheng seriously, asking, "Tell us in detail about what brought you here again, let's see if we can find any clues."
Everyone had already heard about Luo Zheng's exploits that night, but no one minded listening again. They all looked towards Luo Zheng, and even Lan Xue gave him a tender look, which made the Drunkard green with envy. Luo Zheng thought it over and decided that since it might be helpful, it wouldn't hurt to recount the events, so he began to do so.
As the Drunkard listened to Luo Zheng recount how he had killed five assassins, he could not help but laugh in admiration. But soon after, he began to ponder deeply. As someone who had dealt with the Reincarnation Organization many times, the Drunkard naturally knew a fair bit about these assassins. The rest, who were ignorant about the organization, turned to wait patiently for the Drunkard.
After a while, the Drunkard said, "Customs have already assisted us in the investigation, and the possibility that the assassin has fled abroad is slim. He's likely still in this city. However, the city's large and assassins excel at hiding their identities, making them hard to find. This isn't our country, and our actions are restricted."
"What do you mean?" asked Lan Xue.
"From my knowledge of the Reincarnation Assassin Organization, they likely sent a small team here—five members, plus a leader, making six. Brother Ghost killed five people, so the one on the run is the last one. It's easy for one person to hide, and it might take some time to find them. We can't afford to wait around here forever, and the assassin will probably think the same, staying hidden until we leave," the Drunkard explained.
"So you're suggesting we withdraw first?" Lan Xue asked coldly. Seeing the Drunkard's bitter smile, she guessed she was right and turned to Luo Zheng to ask, "What do you think?"
Luo Zheng knew the Drunkard was correct; staying here was a waste of time. It was no easy task to find an assassin in a sea of faces. It would be manageable in their own country, but the level of security in Ba Country was simply inadequate, which was why the country was in such chaos. Yet, the thought of leaving without resolution was frustrating. Suddenly, the image of Ett flashed through his mind, and his eyes lit up. "The Drunkard's analysis is sound, however, there's someone who can help us."
"Who?" the Drunkard asked in surprise. Seeing knowing smiles appear on everyone else's faces, he was momentarily taken aback before realization dawned on him. He laughed and said, "Are you talking about Ett?" Seeing Luo Zheng's noncommittal smile, he continued, "That could work. He's quite the local tyrant. Since he's helped you once, he'll help you again."
"If everyone agrees there's no problem, I'll go find him," Luo Zheng said.
"I'll come with you," said the Drunkard. Seeing no objections from the rest, he urged, "Let's go."
Luo Zheng changed into clean casual clothes, and the two of them left the hospital, declining military protection. They hailed a taxi on the street and headed straight to Mogan Town. About half an hour later, the taxi stopped in front of the entrance to the largest nightclub in Mogan Town. As they got out, wary bouncers surrounded them, their faces tense with vigilance after someone had attacked the place and left casualties.
"I'm here to see Ett. Tell your leader to contact him for me," Luo Zheng stated coldly. With the presence of the formidable Drunkard, he did not consider the bouncers to be a threat.
When the bouncer heard Luo Zheng mention their boss's name, he dared not delay and quickly relayed the situation. Shortly after, a leading bouncer came out, cautiously scrutinized them, then smiled and signaled them to follow him into the nightclub. Luo Zheng gave the Drunkard a significant look, and they followed confidently.
Naturally unflappable, the Drunkard followed into a private room on the second floor. Luo Zheng saw Ett lounging comfortably on a sofa smoking a cigar. He walked over and sat down, picked up a cigar to sniff it. The scent was a bit strong for him, not to his taste, so he put it back and said with a smile, "You're living the high life, aren't you?"
"You flatter me," Ett replied, waving the leading bouncer away. He then asked with a serious expression, "What brings you to me?"
"The assassin got away. I need your help to find him," Luo Zheng said straightforwardly.
"What? That son of a bitch got away?" Ett was astonished and seeing Luo Zheng did not seem to be lying, fell into thought. Luo Zheng gave the Drunkard a look and waited. After a while, Ett continued, "That bastard could be hiding anywhere, but don't worry. Even if he's hiding in the sewers, I have ways to find him. I'll let you know when I do."
"Alright, I appreciate your help." Luo Zheng knew about Ett's influence in the area. It was Ett's people who had found the assassin at the hostel last time. He agreed, gave Ett a contact number—It was the Embassy's—and stood up to leave, since all of them were not severely injured, they couldn't possibly stay in the hospital forever; they'd soon need to be on standby at the Embassy.
Ett eagerly offered to host them for a meal, but Luo Zheng politely declined. They caught a taxi back, and on the way, the Drunkard asked somewhat uneasily, "Do you really trust him?"
"It's not about trust or distrust. After spending some time with him, I've come to understand him enough. He's a smart man and knows how to choose. If we don't kill the assassin, the assassin will surely go after him. Rather than waiting for that, it's better to act and eliminate the threat," Luo Zheng explained with a smile.
"You do understand the intricacies involved," the Drunkard laughed.
"After so many life-and-death experiences, it's about time I did," Luo Zheng laughed in reply, looking at the bustling streets outside, his thoughts deepening. After a while, he suddenly asked the Drunkard, who was equally contemplative, "Having dealt with the Reincarnation Killers often, can you get your hands on their employment records?"
"You want to find the employer?" the Drunkard asked in surprise, looking at Luo Zheng. When Luo Zheng nodded thoughtfully, the Drunkard considered for a moment before saying, "That's not possible. The assassins take jobs through a website. The employer doesn't know who will take the job when they post it. They just need to specify the task and deposit the bounty with the website, which acts as a middleman. After the task is completed, the site pays the assassin. If not completed within a set time, the site refunds the employer."
"I see," Luo Zheng said, then asked a few more questions of general interest, all of which the Drunkard answered. They were speaking in Huaxia Country's language, so there was no worry of eavesdropping. Unaware of the time passing, they arrived back at the hospital. After going through the discharge procedures, they were escorted by the military to the Embassy, where they had dinner together and were arranged in guest rooms to rest.
Exhausted, everyone freshened up and rested. When dinner time came, an Embassy staff member rushed over, knocking on Luo Zheng's room door to deliver a message, "We've just received an anonymous phone call with a message for you. It says the person you're looking for is in the Sam Country Embassy."
"The Embassy?" Luo Zheng was taken aback, his expression instantly turning grave.
