Chapter 237: Ett Negotiation
"The plan is simple. We hold the ground floor. The enemy wouldn't rashly attack, otherwise they would've come in shooting instead of just firing from the outside. Once the room collapses, we take shelter in the basement. With the rubble blocking their entry, it'll take them quite a while to get in, and the longer we delay, the better for us," Lan Xue explained.
"That sounds doable," Mountain Eagle exclaimed excitedly, glancing around at the surrounding walls, wondering how to make more bricks fall toward the entrance of the basement.
"Ett, come out and look, who is this?" that voice called out again.
"Ett?" Everyone looked at each other before finally turning to their boss, who nodded and said, "That's me."
"Don't move, I'll check it out," Luo Zheng felt something was wrong. Calling for the boss at this time definitely indicated something had changed. At that moment, there was a loud chattering outside that Luo Zheng couldn't understand. He looked at the boss, who was deep in thought, and asked, "What are they saying?"
The boss, known as Ett, became anxious, his eyebrows knit tightly in a fretful explanation, "They've taken my father, the deputy commander Cody. They want me to kill you. If I kill you, they'll release my father."
"Why haven't you just taken action directly, instead of telling me all this?" Luo Zheng asked in return.
"I can't kill you, and even if I did, they wouldn't let my father go. It must be that bastard Cody seizing power. I've had a bad feeling about that scumbag for a long time. Just as I thought," Ett hurriedly explained, moving towards the hall and cautiously peering out the window.
Luo Zheng joined him by the window and saw that there was indeed a man with a gun pointed at a fifty-something man with a beard bound up. A man in front was looking on at the villa with a cold, smug smile, and there were also two Caucasians, probably from the assassin organization. Luo Zheng looked at Ett, who appeared to be in great pain, and asked, "What's your plan?"
"If you trust me, let me go out and negotiate with them, try to buy time until your reinforcements arrive, how about that?" Ett proposed after a moment's thought.
Luo Zheng considered it and found it to be a good strategy. In the current situation, every minute they could delay was to their advantage. However, he was concerned and reminded Ett, "I naturally trust you, and under these circumstances, your presence in the room doesn't make much of a difference. But going out there, you're at risk at any time. Are you sure you want to do this?"
"As a son, I cannot remain indifferent while my father is threatened. Although my going out won't make much of a difference, I should be able to buy a few minutes. I'll use negotiating terms as an excuse to go out; delaying even for a bit is something. If I die, please, in view of our cooperation, help me take vengeance, kill that bastard Cody," Ett stated somberly, his eyes filled with rage.
"I promise," Luo Zheng confirmed without hesitation. Looking outside, his hand clutching the gun was sweaty, and his whole body exuded an immense rage. He was filled with hatred for the scumbags outside, and even more so for the Song family. The assassins calling him out by name, it was clear there was Shadow of the Song family behind this, it was too obvious.
Ett glanced at Luo Zheng, his expression full of sorrow, and walked towards the outside. His back looked lonely. Luo Zheng watched Ett, thanked him, and said, "Be careful, stay alive. Agree to their terms as much as possible, then come back. There's always a way, don't act rashly."
"Fine," Ett halted, agreed with a grunt, and without looking back, continued walking towards the outside. Reaching the doorway, the guns of the armed personnel outside aimed at him, exuding an asphyxiating chill. Ett's blood ran cold, and he gritted his teeth and shouted loudly, "Don't shoot, it's me," using the local language.
Cody looked at Ett, a flash of surprise in his eyes, which immediately turned into angry yelling, "Where's the person? Is he dead?"
"How do I trust you? If I kill Ruan, what if you don't release the hostage? I demand that you release the hostage first," Ett shouted loudly, his angry eyes fixed on Cody as if he wanted to tear him apart.
"What are you looking at? You looking to die?" Cody, irritated, raised his gun, aimed, and continued, "Your father made an unforgivable mistake, acting without clarifying the situation and putting our Wata Guerrilla in a dire position. Neither you nor your father can bear this responsibility."
"What a joke," Ett retorted coldly, then looked around at the others and continued to challenge, "Is this how you treat your commander? Today Cody can abandon your commander, tomorrow he can abandon you without hesitation."
"Looking for death!" Cody, not expecting Ett to sow discord, angrily pulled the trigger.
"Bang." The gunshot rang out, but the bullet shot into the sky, fired by a Caucasian who stared at Cody with a displeased expression, whispering something under his breath. From the distance, Ett couldn't hear, but he guessed it wasn't anything pleasant. He shouted coldly, "Look, he didn't hesitate to shoot at me; when the time comes, he won't hesitate to turn on you either. Do you want to die following him?"
"Nonsense," Cody unexpectedly calmed down, glared at Ett, and lowered his gun as he yelled, "Do we have a choice? It's your father's foolish decisions that have brought us to this pass. The Almighty will surely punish you. Now, just go in and kill the one they want dead, and they'll give us a substantial sum of money. With that money, we can disband and live worry-free for the rest of our lives. In exchange, your father will be fine too. It's a win-win. What are you hesitating for? Don't you want to make amends for your father's mistake?"
"Ridiculous, they promised you money? Ha, ha, ha," Ett let loose, bolstered with bravado, and laughed in fury, "This is the most ridiculous lie I've ever heard. You believe their credibility? Think about it, why did they hide the truth in the first place? Why didn't they reveal the situation, leading us to kidnap an important figure from Huaxia Country?"
Upon hearing this, everyone's faces turned strange, their gazes shifting to the two Caucasians before fixing on Cody. Seeing that the situation was turning sour, Cody's face changed dramatically. He turned to a Caucasian beside him and quietly translated the just-spoken conversation. The Caucasian didn't understand the local language either, but his face turned pale upon hearing the translation, and he raised his hand to aim at Ett.
Ett, standing at the doorway, paled, trapped with nowhere to escape, knowing his end had come. He simply stopped dodging, with a liberated look in his eyes, he gazed at his bound father, who was furiously glaring and unable to shout with a rag stuffed in his mouth. Ett closed his eyes, as if smiling in relief; not having to see his father die was also a kind of happiness.
For the elder, sending off a younger person is heart-wrenching. For the younger generation, watching an elder die helplessly is life's greatest sorrow. Being able to die first is also a kind of release.
"Bang!" The gunshot shattered the surrounding silence.
