Strongest Soldier King

Chapter 202: Conference Game

The Group Army Commander was in a meeting with a group of generals when he heard that someone had armed themselves and stormed into the Constitutional Soldier Team, rescuing a person. His face turned ashen, but he managed to logically restrain his explosive emotions and began to think. If someone could take a helicopter into the Group Army military base, they were certainly not an external enemy. With a solemn expression, he coldly stared at the reporting staff officer and demanded, "When did the Constitutional Soldier Team capture someone? Who was it?" As he spoke, his glance subtly shifted toward the Political Commissar.

"It was an order I gave," the Group Army's Political Commissar Song said composedly. "Based on the intelligence I have, the Special Team that was responsible for executing a mission recently exhibited some abnormal behavior. They not only failed to strictly follow the original plan but also deviated from their flight path, leading to an ambush that destroyed the helicopter on the spot. I had the Constitutional Soldier Team bring them in for questioning."

"Oh? There was such an incident? Which team was it?" the Commander's face regained its composure as he asked seriously.

"It was the newly formed Ghost Team, Captain Li's first team," Commissar Song replied calmly.

"The Ghost Team?" The Commander thought carefully, not recalling any impression of them, then continued, "Was it established while I was away on a trip recently? Wasn't the first team left with just a roster? Captain Li rebuilt the first team? Good, who is the captain?"

"Luo Zheng," Commissar Song stated calmly.

"Luo Zheng?" The Commander chewed on the name, suddenly remembering who it was. His expression shifted subtly as he looked intensely at Political Commissar Song, revealing a meaningful smile and said, "Commissar Song, since it was your order to capture the person, you will take full responsibility for this matter. Let's continue the meeting and discuss the new development plans for after the New Year."

"Someone brazenly invaded the Group Army base and audaciously took away a major suspect. This is an act against the party, against the military, it's a mutiny. I request that we shoot down the helicopter," Commissar Song said suddenly, his face turning solemn as he looked earnestly at the Commander.

"Who was it that took the person?" the Commander asked the reporting staff officer, remaining composed.

"It has been checked, it was—" the staff officer hesitated, glancing at the others, reluctant to disclose it openly, quickly stepped to the side, approached the Commander, whispered a few words in his ear, then stepped back.

The Commander furrowed his brows, his face growing grim. He looked at Commissar Song with some dissatisfaction and said seriously, "Commissar Song, the Constitutional Soldier Team is under the jurisdiction of the Command Center. You deployed them to capture someone while I was away without prior notice. I can overlook this, but due to the unclear specific circumstances, I cannot issue the order to bomb the helicopter. If you insist, you may continue to overstep my authority and issue it yourself."

The generals in the room subtly changed their expressions as they looked between the two men, their faces revealing something interesting to ponder. Yet, no one spoke a word; they all lowered their heads in silence, clearly demonstrating their unwillingness to get involved in the struggle between the two heavyweights of the Group Army. Commissar Song's expression shifted, he looked deeply at the Commander, not expecting such a choice, and said coldly, "The Commander must be joking. With you here, when would it be my turn to speak out? We each have our own responsibilities; you manage military affairs, I manage ideological matters. However, if someone armed themselves and entered the Group Army base and the Commander does nothing about it, disregarding the military's dignity and honor, this would be an ideological mistake. I think it's necessary to reflect this situation to the Central Political Department."

"Is that so? You overstepped your authority to deploy the Constitutional Soldier Team on your own; pray tell, what are you trying to accomplish?" The Commander's face turned icy as he spoke coldly, his profound eyes flickered with the light of wisdom and a hint of chilling murderous intent.

"Eh?" The political commissar from the Song family saw that the Commander was determined to protect this matter, clearly having chosen to stand against the Song family. Realizing that further words were futile, a flash of anger crossed his face, but he restrained himself and said coldly, "Since the Commander has made his choice, then I shall say no more."

"That would be for the best." The Commander snorted coldly. One acted beyond his authority, and the other wanted to release the arrested; each held leverage over the other, and neither dared to go too far. The matter tacitly concluded there and then. The surrounding officers, having witnessed the public spat, knew it was time to choose sides, their faces bitter as they looked towards the silent Chief of Staff.

"Alright, let's continue with the meeting," the Commander gestured grandly and commanded in a low voice. As for the staff officer who had come to report, he hurried out to organize the scene, lest actual weapons be drawn, which would have made for a messy end.

The Chief of Staff rushed to the Constitutional Soldier Team, and at his command, the numerous armed personnel around dispersed. Lan Xue and others sighed in relief; forcibly taking a person with arms was a grave crime. Although they didn't fear a confrontation, the aftermath would be very troublesome. It was best to avoid any further complications. They quickly boarded the aircraft, and the helicopter ascended swiftly.

Throughout the journey, Lan Xue looked at Luo Zheng, unconscious, her brow furrowed and her face full of worry. Ghost Hand and others remained silent, while Snow Leopard, responsible for flying, pushed the speed to the limit, fiercely heading towards the base. Mountain Eagle, seeing Lan Xue's low spirits, contacted the base, requesting the medical team to be ready for immediate rescue.

When the aircraft landed at the base, the medical team was already waiting on the tarmac. Seeing Luo Zheng strapped to the chair, the medical staff were astonished. Ghost Hand reminded them a few words aside, and everyone carefully moved Luo Zheng, meticulous not to jostle his chest bones and cause secondary injuries. They swiftly entered the emergency room.

Outside the emergency room, in the hallway, Lan Xue sat silently on a bench, waiting, while Ghost Hand and the others leaned against the wall, equally silent and filled with concern. Having fought alongside Luo Zheng for a time, they had forged a bond of life-and-death camaraderie. His injury weighted heavily on everyone's hearts, and yet a trace of joy emerged. Lan Xue bringing Luo Zheng to the base indicated that Captain Li had given his permission, and there was a possibility that Luo Zheng could become one of them. Otherwise, outsiders were forbidden entry to the base under any circumstance. This was the reason Lan Xue sought Captain Li's approval.

As time ticked away, everyone waited patiently. Some people who heard the news came out of curiosity, asking Ghost Hand and the others about the situation. After glancing at Lan Xue, they divulged not a word, deftly changing the subject. The others, being smart, didn't press further.

A lazy young man approached, tall and straight, standing around one meter ninety, yet his eyes held a cynical aloofness. Glancing carelessly at Ghost Hand, he came up to Lan Xue and asked with a tender expression, "Xue Er, what happened? Do you need my help?"

"Get lost." Lan Xue, still furious, saw the newcomer and her expression chilled further, as she spat out an unquestionable word and then turned her face away, looking towards the emergency room, her eyes full of worry.

"Eh?" Surprise flickered across the youth's face, but it quickly returned to normal. Laughing jokingly, he said, "You have such charm even while you're angry—truly irresistible. I like it. Who are you guys? Who injured him? Tell me, no matter who it is, I'll settle it for you." Towards the end of his sentence, the carefree light in his eyes exploded into a startling brilliancy, like an unsheathed sword, sharp and peerless.
