Strongest Soldier King

Chapter 197: Undercover Killed

On a stormy night, countless wild wolves turned into streaks of deadly darkness, relentlessly charging at the circular formation ahead. The five-person formation stood immovable like boulders, striking swiftly and ferociously retaliating. The military sabers in their hands flashed with a chilling light, continuously devouring the lives of the charging wild wolves. The ground was piled with wolf carcasses, and their blood had already stained the surroundings red.

The ferocious wild wolf pack attacked brutally. The five men in the circular formation fought to the death without retreating. On this stormy night, they composed a surging symphony of nature's law of the survival of the fittest. Finally, when everyone became tired, and their physical strength was drained too quickly and too much, facing the unceasing attacks of the wild wolf pack, Lan Xue calmly issued the order to retreat.

All their pent-up anger was unleashed on the pack of wild wolves, releasing their suppressed emotions. Everyone complied with Lan Xue's order to retreat without any objection. The Ghost Team immediately covered them with intense firepower, and everyone quickly climbed up a large tree. After the Ghost Team rapidly expended a magazine of ammo, everyone had already scrambled up the tree, avoiding the attacks of the wolves.

"Hahaha, exhilarating." Snow Leopard gasped for air and roughly exclaimed.

"I'll settle the score with you later," Lan Xue said coldly, her icy words extinguishing Snow Leopard's enthusiasm like a bucket of cold water. Mountain Eagle and Ghost Hand knew Lan Xue well and sheepishly smiled without any rebuttal. Snow Leopard didn't say anything more. Lan Xue continued to ask, "Who got hurt?"

"Just some scratches, no big deal," Ghost Hand said nonchalantly. Snow Leopard and Mountain Eagle also indicated that they had suffered minor injuries, but it was nothing serious. Seeing that Luo Zheng hadn't responded, Lan Xue couldn't help but ask concernedly, "You okay?"

Everyone listened to Lan Xue's concerned inquiry through their headsets, knowing she wasn't asking them, cleverly chose to remain silent. Luo Zheng's arm had been scratched, leaving several blood marks, and he had some minor injuries on his legs, but nothing fatal. He smiled nonchalantly, "I'm fine, just minor injuries, don't worry. And you?"

"Same," Lan Xue said coldly. "Snow Leopard, you were only concerned with your own thrill of the kill, dragging your brothers into trouble. I'll settle the score with you when we get back."

"Yes, Captain, any punishment you give is fine," Snow Leopard quickly replied, lacking his previous fierce killing intent, looking obedient like a child who had done something wrong.

Luo Zheng knew that Snow Leopard wasn't really being obedient, but rather out of respect for Lan Xue, he couldn't help but smile, "Given how the fight turned out, no one expected to run off a closely watched enemy. Everyone's frustrated, it's fine to have a good fight, and since no one's badly hurt, maybe we can let the punishment slide this time?"

"Right, Captain, we all promise to obey you in the future," Ghost Hand said with a sheepish smile.

"Since the brothers have pleaded for us, Captain, you are a generous leader, can we avoid the punishment this time?" Mountain Eagle also said with an embarrassed smile.

"It seems you all need a reminder," Lan Xue said coldly. No one dared to contradict her. After a while, Lan Xue coldly added, "Considering his word, I'll let it go this time. But if there's a next time, the punishment will apply to all."

"Yes," Snow Leopard quickly agreed, gratitude flashing in his eyes as he looked at Luo Zheng.

As Ghost Hand and Mountain Eagle saw their impartial captain actually agree, their eyes filled with ambiguous smiles. They exchanged looks and nodded knowingly, gaining a new understanding of the relationship between Lan Xue and Luo Zheng.

As long as Lan Xue didn't mind, Luo Zheng didn't care about others knowing their relationship either; he wished everyone in the world knew, so no one would compete with him for her. He glanced at the Wild Wolf pack howling chaotically under the big tree. His fervent gaze gradually cooled down as he thought about his rash actions just now, which indeed seemed inappropriate. He couldn't help but say, "Alright, let's wait for daylight."

Everyone agreed, with Ghost Team responsible for guarding, while the others hid in the trees to rest and recuperate. Time slowly passed, and the Wild Wolf pack continued their restless howling until the latter part of the night. Perhaps exhausted, they all lay down nearby to rest, yet they did not leave, giving Luo Zheng a very solemn expression.

Gradually, dawn broke, and the torrential rain also stopped. When the first rays of sunlight landed on the dense canopy, trickling down through the gaps in the leaves, everyone's spirits lifted. They ate some dry food. The overnight rain had washed away the blood, and the corpses of the Wild Wolves on the ground had been cleanly consumed by their companions, leaving no signs of the struggle.

What made everyone breathe a sigh of relief was that after eating and drinking well and resting for a bit, the Wild Wolf pack actually slowly retreated and soon disappeared into the dense forest, leaving no trace. Just to be safe, Ghost Hand went down first to verify that the Wild Wolf pack had left, after which everyone came down from the trees to stretch their stiff bodies.

"What's next?" Luo Zheng asked as everyone gathered around.

After pondering for a moment, Lan Xue said, "Although the people from the Wild Wolf Mercenary Group have left, we still need to check their base to see if there are any findings."

"Alright," Luo Zheng agreed indifferently as the team began to regroup on-site, reloading their empty magazines with bullets and maintaining their firearms. Ten minutes later, the team headed towards the valley.

A few minutes later, everyone arrived at the river, crossed the wooden bridge, with Mountain Eagle and Ghost Hand advancing rapidly on the left and right, vigilantly inspecting the surroundings and the ground to ensure safety. Soon, the group reached a cluster of buildings. Ghost Team paired up and searched each building. They found no one, and the rooms were a mess, as if people had left in a hurry.

Suddenly, everyone arrived at the door of the central building's largest room. Snow Leopard kicked the door open. A big living room with a single chair appeared, tying a person whose head was covered with a black hood. Seeing this scene, everyone became vigilant. Snow Leopard took the lead, checking the surrounding rooms. After ensuring there were no issues, he nodded to the following Lan Xue and others.

Everyone approached the chair. Lan Xue watched the person attentively, her expression suddenly turning cold as she said, "Ghost Hand, check for any issues carefully. It could be our scout."

"Yes," Ghost Hand's expression changed drastically, and he quickly squatted down to carefully examine the chair and the person on it. He gently touched the clothes of the person to ensure there were no issues before beginning to inspect the hood. Finding no problems, he slowly pulled off the hood to reveal a middle-aged man, bruised and swollen.

This man had been beaten beyond recognition. Ghost Hand checked his neck and breathing, his face mournful as he shook his head at Lan Xue, who looked as cold as ancient ice that would never thaw, fiery anger flickering in her eyes. Sorrowfully stepping back, he looked at the deceased on the chair, his eyes full of respect.

"Everyone, salute," Lan Xue said coldly, desperately suppressing the rage in her heart.

Luo Zheng also guessed what had happened, and along with everyone else, he solemnly saluted. They heard Lan Xue's cold voice instruct, "Everyone, raise your guns."
