Strongest Soldier King

Chapter 189: Sweeping into the Valley

"Whoosh!" Another sniper bullet was fired from a stone room in the mountain valley, breaking the silence that had just settled over the area. This shot was aimed toward the west. Luo Zheng saw this and his face grew somber. The enemy, hidden in the room and taking advantage of the complex surrounding structures for cover, could easily spot the situation in the woods on both sides, while the people in the woods found it difficult to locate the concealed sniper. Even if they managed to approximate the sniper's position, it was still tough to effectively take the shot.

"The situation is different from what we anticipated," Lan Xue rose to her feet, observed through the sniper scope for a while, and her face darkened as she said, "The enemy is hiding in the room. With the rooms in the valley below so haphazardly arranged, it's easier for them to look out than for us to look in. They want to engage in a sniper duel with us. Despite our high ground, we're not actually at an advantage. Do you have any ideas?"

"Limited by the minefield, we can't rush down there. Looks like we'll have to clear the mines," Luo Zheng said gravely as he observed the situation. "If it really comes to it, we can roll logs or stones down to clear a path. However, this would reveal our route to the enemy, making it hard for us to launch a surprise attack."

"Then we'll clear several paths," Lan Xue said sharply, looking down at the valley.

"No, we don't need to clear the mines. The minefield is as much a disadvantage for us as it is for the enemy. With the minefield there, the enemy can't sneak up on us either. Let's drag this out. Psychologically speaking, we have the initiative and they are passive. Let's see who can outlast the other and figure out a way to take out their radar," Luo Zheng said coldly, his temper also flaring up.

"Ghost Hand, figure out a way to take out their radar," Lan Xue commanded through the headset.

"Understood," Ghost Hand responded in the headset.

"Let's go help out. There are two people guarding the entrance to the gorge. The enemy is unlikely to come out," Luo Zheng suggested.

Lan Xue thought for a moment and then nodded in agreement. Luo Zheng communicated with Zhou Gang on the opposite side, instructing them to keep a close watch, and then he and Lan Xue made their way around the peak. Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the western side and found Ghost Hand, who was clearing mines, while Meng Zhu provided cover nearby.

Even with Ghost Hand's skills, he stood at the forefront cautious and intently studying the situation, his forehead covered in cold sweat, a testament to the traps' deviousness and their unpredictability. Luo Zheng had experienced the dangers of the minefield himself. Looking up at the dense forest ahead with no better way to get through and the radar about 600 meters away, grenades were out of reach and regular sniper bullets posed no real threat to the radar. They couldn't destroy it without getting close.

Suddenly, Luo Zheng had an idea. He quickly signaled Ghost Hand to stop clearing mines and then drew his military knife to chop a piece of hardwood into a hook shape. He took out a rope from his backpack, tied one end to the hook, and, to prevent it from slipping, carved a grooved ring where the rope was tied. Once he was sure it was secure, he set down his backpack, took only his sniper rifle and rope, and swiftly climbed a large tree. Everyone watched, realizing what he was up to.

After climbing up more than ten meters high, Luo Zheng steadied himself and swung the rope to form a loop, then threw it with force. The hook, with the rope whistling behind it, struck a branch ahead, rotated twice, and upon a vigorous pull from Luo Zheng, it hooked onto the branch. Grabbing hold of the rope, he leapt with all his might, and the rope swung him across to the next tree. He grabbed onto it and climbed up, loosening the hook to repeat the process.

"The kid's got some moves, I'll go help him," Ghost Hand chuckled, making a hook of his own after learning from Luo Zheng.

Watching Luo Zheng swiftly move through the trees, a glint of satisfaction flashed in Lan Xue's stern eyes. She then called Meng Zhu, and the two of them climbed separate tall trees for concealment, set up their sniper rifles, and prepared to provide support.

Luo Zheng repeatedly tossed the hook, using the rope to swing forward, agile as a monkey. Finally, he arrived at a tree on the edge of the forest. After observing for a while, he realized that they were about four hundred meters from the radar. To take out the radar, they needed to advance another hundred meters.

He quickly slid down from the tree, making sure he had a safe landing spot, then jumped down from the trunk, carefully observing his surroundings. Finding no traps, he breathed a sigh of relief. Hearing some noise behind him, he turned to see Ghost Hand arriving, having used the same method. He couldn't help but smile, gave a hand signal, Ghost Hand understood, and swung over to the tree Luo Zheng had just left, sliding down and whispering, "That's a nice trick, how did you think of it?"

"Hunter's style, not exactly reputable," Luo Zheng said. "You cover me here, I'll go."

"No way, you're the team leader after all. You stay here to cover, I'll go," Ghost Hand said without hesitation. As Luo Zheng began to argue, Ghost Hand said bluntly, "I have a better chance."

Admitting his own lesser skill, Luo Zheng rolled his eyes and let Ghost Hand go. Indeed, Ghost Hand was formidable. After darting out of the forest, there was an open field covered in wild grass. Ghost Hand, wearing a camouflage suit, ran through the grass on all fours, moving very fast, advancing more than twenty meters in a short time.

Seeing Ghost Hand moving like a python, Luo Zheng was taken aback by his true strength. Crawling was easy, but it usually made noise when pushing through the grass. To move like a python, silent and fast, required great skill and core strength.

Luo Zheng was confident he could slide as well, but he admitted he couldn't do it as well as Ghost Hand. After watching for a while, he saw Ghost Hand had charged more than fifty meters ahead. Although the wild grass was flattened, the camouflage suit made him nearly undetectable if one wasn't paying attention. Soon, Luo Zheng saw Ghost Hand hiding in a depression, motionless, and asked, "What's going on?"

"The angle's not enough, I need to keep going. Cover me," Ghost Hand whispered back.

"Be careful," Luo Zheng cautioned. Destroying the enemy's radar could prevent them from communicating with the outside world and completely isolate them—a tactical move of great significance. Otherwise, Luo Zheng wouldn't have taken the risk. After instructing Ghost Hand, he immediately said through the headset, "Everyone else, make some noise to cover Ghost Hand as he advances."

Everyone was sharp and understood Luo Zheng's order. They quickly found targets and decisively shot, shifting positions immediately after to avoid being pinned down by the enemy. As long as bullets rang out, the enemy's attention would be drawn to other directions, disregarding the west, providing cover.

As Ghost Hand got closer and closer, Luo Zheng relaxed a bit until Lan Xue's voice suddenly rang in his ear, "What about we all use your method to enter the valley and launch a surprise attack?"

Upon hearing that, Luo Zheng felt tempted. After some thought, he said, "Not now. I'll go in and scout it out. If it looks good, we'll take action tonight. It's easier to create chaos at night, which benefits us."

"Da da da!" As Luo Zheng's words fell, a burst of intense gunfire erupted. Luo Zheng was startled, looked up, and saw several houses suddenly erupt with gunfire, all bullets whistling towards Ghost Hand, and the situation suddenly became critical.
