Strongest Soldier King

Chapter 116: Turning Defeat into Victory

"Da da da!" Luo Zheng felt danger approaching from behind and, without hesitation, turned around and opened fire, sweeping the area with his gun. In the midst of crisis, Luo Zheng saw clearly: a figure clutching a military dagger in a reverse grip lunged at him like a ravenous wolf. But once the gunfire erupted, the figure twisted in mid-air with a peculiar agility, rolled upon landing, and continued to roll forward.

Luo Zheng prided himself on having enough patience to compete with the assailant and had prepared for an ambush. He never expected the enemy to approach him from behind so silently. If it weren't for the heightened sense of danger he developed from years of hunting, if the enemy hadn't intended to capture him alive, he might already have been a cold corpse by now. Furious, Luo Zheng sprang to his feet like a carp leaping out of water and chased after the attacker, unleashing a ferocious barrage of bullets.

The sniper rolled down the slope, picking up speed as he descended, but Luo Zheng, who had recovered quickly, charged down after him like a tiger pouncing down a mountain, his gun firing wildly. To his horror, he found the enemy dodging bullets even faster, with even more bizarre movement techniques—sometimes coiling like a giant serpent, other times bursting forward like a flood dragon emerging from its cave. Despite not having the chance to stand and run, the sniper's evasive maneuvers while rolling were indeed the work of a master among masters.

Seeing that his gun skills weren't hitting the target, Luo Zheng grew even more determined, deliberately pausing for a second before shooting and swiftly switching to single-shot mode. Just as the enemy burst forward four or five meters and came to a stop, exhausted, Luo Zheng fired fiercely. His gun aimed to cover the enemy's left, right, and about a meter forward—the three bullets whistled through the air in a "品" formation.

The bullets seemed to sense Luo Zheng's rage, roaring and screaming as they tore through the air with a destructive force. "Thump thump thump!" Two bullets buried themselves into the earth, while one accurately penetrated the back of the enemy. They were only five or six meters apart, a distance that posed no obstacles for the frighteningly lethal AK47. Where the bullet entered was just a small hole, but upon impacting the bones inside the body, it changed direction. The kinetic energy wreaked havoc on the enemy's internal organs before the bullet shot out the other side.

The sniper, as if struck by a heavy hammer, lay motionless on the ground, his face filled with horror as he looked up at Luo Zheng. His eyes brimmed with shock, doubt, and disbelief. Gun resting on the shoulder, Luo Zheng calmly watched the enemy, slowly approaching, then aimed at the sniper's legs and fired another burst.

The sniper was completely incapacitated on the ground. Bullets struck his thigh, spurting a streak of blood. The powerful bullet energy shredded the thigh into a bloody hole. Facing a formidable sniper expert, Luo Zheng dared not be the slightest bit careless, certainly not foolish enough to approach for a conversation and then be ambushed.

War is cruel and merciless. Before completely subduing the enemy, Luo Zheng could not afford to be negligent. He fired two more shots, hitting both of the enemy's arms before he finally relaxed. He walked up, and seeing that the sniper was still alive, crouched down and picked up the enemy's sniper rifle for a look—it was an SVD sniper rifle, known for its good handling and durability, an upgraded version of the AK47, but incomparable in power.

"Who are you?" The enemy uttered with difficulty.

Luo Zheng did not respond but made sure once again that the enemy had no ability to attack before he coldly said, "You have a strong body, to not die from that. You were looking for me, right? You're from the Wild Wolf Mercenary Group, aren't you?" He said, looking towards the enemy's neck, and sure enough, there was a fierce wolf head tattoo.

"Are you... Luo Zheng?" The sniper said with difficulty, a relieved smile appeared on his face, which made Luo Zheng's scalp tingle. A man close to death was still able to smile—indeed a reckless mercenary. He heard the sniper continue with difficulty, "To be able to kill Blood Wolf... You... are formidable. I die... without injustice." As he spoke, his head slumped to the side, his eyes wide open, dying with eyes unclosed.

"What a hassle, even in death there's injustice? If you have grievances, go take them up with King Yan." After confirming that the other party was from the Wild Wolf Mercenary Group, Luo Zheng felt no sympathy. He quickly stripped off the man's gear, not sparing even his clothes and pants, and put them all on himself. Then, he donned the camouflage suit. After checking, he found that aside from the svd sniper rifle, there was also an M9 combat knife, several magazines, and nothing else.

Luo Zheng examined the svd sniper rifle and smiled with satisfaction. This gun's maximum lethal range was 3,800 meters, with an effective range of 1,000 meters. Its iron sights were good for 1,200 meters, optical scope for 1,300 meters, and night vision scope reached 300 meters. With a capacity of 10rds, with this gun, Luo Zheng dared to contend with the members of the Wild Wolf Mercenary Group.

Thinking back to the recent close call, Luo Zheng glanced at the body on the ground with some trepidation. If he hadn't been so alert, he would be the one lying there. After making sure there was nothing else useful, he quickly regrouped with the others. By this time, the rain had lessened considerably and looked like it might stop. The sound of gunfire would surely attract a large number of enemies to pursue and kill them; they had to leave as quickly as possible.

When he was not far from the earthen hole, Luo Zheng suddenly felt targeted, just like the feeling he had when the sniper had ambushed him earlier, very sudden—causing him to be greatly alarmed. With a swift movement, he threw himself to the ground, and "Bang!" a bullet whizzed past almost grazing his head. Luo Zheng felt his scalp tingle and spat out the mud from his mouth, shouting loudly, "Don't shoot, it's me."

"Is that Brother Luo Zheng?" A voice called out in surprise—it was Scholar.

"Who else could it be, I was almost written off by you." Luo Zheng yelled in frustration. As he was wearing a camouflage suit, his attire was completely different from when he had left, so it was no wonder Scholar didn't recognize him. There was nowhere to argue about almost being hit, fortunately, there was no harm done, or else it would have been a real miscarriage of justice.

Scholar hadn't expected Luo Zheng to be the one coming, nor had he expected Luo Zheng to actually dodge his ambush. Scholar was in awe of Luo Zheng's sharp sense of danger. He hurriedly stepped out from his cover and shouted apologetically, "Brother Luo Zheng, I'm so sorry, I didn't recognize you. Are you alright?"

"I'm fine," Luo Zheng replied with a bit of trepidation in his voice, then quickly walked forward. He noticed Gardener and Monk lying in ambush in inconspicuous positions on either side, forming a triangular defensive formation. He was relieved that they were his own people. Had it been the enemy who blundered into them, they would have faced an attack from three sides without any blind spots—the tactical arrangement was very sensible.

After regrouping, everyone stared in surprise at Luo Zheng, who'd gone from carrying a shotgun to a cannon. Scholar voiced everyone's thoughts, "Brother, where did you go to fight the rich? Tsk tsk, these are some fine goods, an svd sniper rifle, even with a night vision scope—you've struck it rich."

"Ran into a sniper and took him down," Luo Zheng said nonchalantly. He glanced at the earthen hole; Farmer was still inside. Thinking that the pursuers might be upon them, his expression darkened, and he urged, "The enemy has already caught up. We'd better retreat quickly, or it'll be too late."

"Right, this damn rain is about to stop. Let's all prepare and withdraw immediately," Scholar agreed and said.
