Strongest Soldier King

Chapter 1001: The Base Is Attacked

Two months later, a military research base in the Northwest.

The base was built in a valley, surrounded by mountains. The mountains suffered serious desertification, with few trees and only some wilting dry grass despairingly hanging their heads. The entire base could only be accessed by a dirt road, which was relatively flat. The dirt road had three checkpoints and was heavily guarded. Heavy troops were also deployed within the valley, with various monitoring and detection equipment. It was heavily guarded, impossible for even birds to enter.

In the late night, moonlight bathed the valley base gently. Occasionally, patrol teams with dog escorts could be seen passing by. Other than this, the surroundings were tranquil, only disturbed by the calls of carefree crickets, which ironically made the valley seem even quieter.

The wind gently blew over the mountain peaks, toppling over the powerless dry grass. Suddenly, a head popped up from behind a mountain peak—short hair, a square face, looking about thirty-something and quite spirited, with eyes fixed fiercely on the valley below, emanating a chilling gleam as if there was delicious prey.

Soon, this person gestured, causing more people to appear at the mountain crest. Heads popped up one after another, like a pack of wolves seeking food, emitting a chilling killing intent. Gun barrels also protruded out, aiming at the valley below, their dark muzzles in the moonlight resembling the eyes of Death God.

The person who emerged first suddenly raised his arm, fingers together, pointing firmly forward, issuing the attack orders. Around, Black Shadows swiftly attached suppressors to their guns, and agilely crawled down the mountainside, guns aimed ahead, using both hands and feet like giant pythons quietly approaching their prey.

This group moved very quickly and cautiously. The guards in the valley had no idea. As they approached the foot of the mountain, they stopped. One person looked coldly at the flat ground ahead. The space from the mountain foot to the base was around two hundred meters—very flat, only with some wild grass, but this person seemed wary, didn't dare lead a charge directly, and suddenly lowered his voice to say: "Reach designated position, disable opponent's information system now." Amazingly, he spoke in international language.

Soon, this person suddenly issued another attack gesture, everyone promptly stood up, bent over at the waist, spread out, and charged forward. One even arrogantly kicked aside a movement-sensing metal rod hidden in the grass. While running, they simultaneously pulled the gun locks.

"Who is it?" In the base, from some dark corner, someone suddenly shouted angrily, followed by a burst of rapid gunfire.

The group was undeterred, quickly firing back, rushing wildly towards the base, arriving next to a series of buildings, swiftly taking advantageous positions to counterattack. The gunfire caught all the guards' attention; searchlights swept over but turned off before they could locate the targets. All the valley's lights almost simultaneously went out.

Under the cover of night, this group rapidly dispersed into teams of two or three, heading in different directions while continually sniping discovered targets with screeching silencers. The cries echoed continuously in the night, as these men, like Grim Reapers harvesting souls, swiftly stormed deeper into the base with extraordinary agility.

Without lights, commander systems nullified, even communication equipment rendered useless—the base guards were in utter chaos. The warriors, under the officers' orders, ran somewhat blindly toward gunfire, completely unaware that countless figures had already infiltrated the darkness.

In the central base area, there was a basement—the core research site; a group of scientists wearing white dust-proof suits were tensely adjusting a start-up device, completely oblivious to the gunfight outside, the infiltration occurring. Leading the project was Pan Chen, an academician.

Sixty-year-old Pan Chen appeared somewhat hunched. He devoted almost all his life's effort for this start-up device. With it, the country could remotely control all domestic UAVs to engage in combat without worrying about interference, interception, or reconnaissance from other information warfare-capable countries. It possessed high suddenness, stealth, greatly enhancing combat power.

Although drones have been developed domestically, their informatization capacities were relatively weak, stealth low, monitored closely by big countries. Once airborne, they get exposed, even knowing the interference and interception from other countries. Information warfare capabilities were inferior, passively struck, but with this start-up device, coupled with a robust source-code firewall and a new computing system, the situation could vastly improve.

Suddenly, the basement's explosion-proof doors opened, a large group of armed men flooded in. Without a word, they brutally fired at the surroundings, some even charging towards Pan Chen and others' tuning positions. The gunfire startled Pan Chen's team, whose faces turned pale, many were shot in the chest before reacting, fell to ground and sacrificed.

Pan Chen quickly grabbed the file-bag-sized start-up device, held it in his arms, ripped off the cables, turned to run toward the back. Even if dead, he wouldn't allow this device to fall into enemy hands. Pan Chen's assistant Cheng He rushed up, urgently shouted: "Doctor, give it to me, I can run faster and ensure its destruction."

"Alright, be careful yourself." Without hesitation, Pan Chen handed the start-up device to Cheng He. After taking it, Cheng He's face slightly changed, turned and ran. Pan Chen saw that Cheng He didn't run toward the safe house as planned but towards the back door, his face drastically changing, angrily yelled: "Cheng He—?"

"Bang bang bang!" Three vicious bullets hit Pan Cheng, his body shook, hands holding onto a nearby platform. Furiously staring at the charging attackers, he felt his life quickly fading, body uncontrollably plunged into darkness, collapsed to the floor.

The attackers coldly stared at Pan Cheng, their leader not seeing the start-up device, face changed dramatically, shouted: "Quick, find the stuff and retreat, eliminate everyone here."

"Yes." Around them, people replied coldly, quietly opened fire on surrounding scientists. The leader coldly scrutinized his surroundings, finally eyes landing on the tuning platform, instantly realized, just now the device was tuned, now gone, meaning taken amidst chaos, themselves entering through the front door, opponents could only use the rear door. Thinking of this, the leader somberly ordered: "Everybody follow me in pursuit."

This group quickly moved towards the back door, no longer bothering to shoot other staff.

At this time, several guards charged in, witnessing the chaotic research room, countless fallen scientists bathed in blood. All guards had their faces drastically changed, the leading captain angrily roared: "These beasts, first company stay, second and third follow my pursuit."
