Chapter 353: Rumors Of An Ancient Tomb
Han Yu frowned as he sat alone in his pill hut, setting aside a newly finished Soul Mender Spirit Pill and staring out the window at the slowly dimming sky.
If even outsiders were repeating the story… then this rumor had legs. Long ones.
Just to be sure, he decided it was time to activate a connection he hadn't touched in a while.
It was time to contact Meng Jueyan.
Slipping on the persona of Elder Yi, Han Yu entered his meditation space and used the long distance communication jade slip he'd obtained long ago. A faint flicker of blue light appeared as his spiritual sense pulsed into the webbed script etched into its core. The link traveled across distance—drawn not through sound, but pure resonance.
It had been months since he'd spoken to Meng Jueyan, but they had maintained just enough contact to keep the illusion alive. Han Yu had been careful not to ask too much of her—especially since she'd been promoted within the Hollow Eye Sect's intelligence network, thanks to the carefully "leaked" intel he had offered her during their earlier collaborations.
The jade slip vibrated once, then again.
A third pulse. She was responding.
A calm, confident voice sounded in his mind:
"...It's been a while, Elder Yi. I didn't expect to hear from you unless the heavens themselves cracked open."
Han Yu smiled faintly. She hadn't changed.
"I thought I'd test the winds. I've been in seclusion lately and haven't been updated. But I heard some interesting things recently. There's talk spreading through the region—about a tomb."
There was a pause.
Then she responded, her tone much more serious:
"It's real."
Han Yu's eyes narrowed. "So it isn't just an echo of fantasy?"
"No. It's been confirmed. The tomb was unearthed just a few weeks ago in the Marshes of the South, on the edges of the Ruyan Dynasty's borderlands.
Several ancient formations were triggered when a rogue cultivator accidentally disturbed a buried array. Since then, scouts from every mid-to-large sect have swarmed the area. Some think it's the resting place of a Immortal Ascension Realm expert from the era before the last great war."
Han Yu sat back, brows furrowing. "So it's not just our sect?"
"Far from it," Meng Jueyan said grimly. "While the Hollow Eye Sect is mobilizing and we've already dispatched five scouting teams and are preparing for a coordinated incursion, The other sects—the Crimson Cloud Sect, Jade Mirror Temple, Stormveil Alliance—they're all sending their people too. Some are forming temporary coalitions. Others… well, you know how cultivators are."
"Greedy," Han Yu said.
"Exactly. If the tomb really is what we think it is… it won't be just about treasure or inheritance. It could alter the balance between sects."
He hesitated before asking, "What of the Twin Leaf Peak Sect?"
"Already involved. According to the intel scout teams had been posted there for nearly three years looking for something. But last month upon the activation of the array many of them got injured. I heard many were recalled."
Han Yu's stomach tightened.
So the mission Xuan Qing had nearly died on wasn't just some exploration. It was tied to this tomb.
No wonder she hadn't spoken much about it.
"What's your intent, Elder Yi?" Meng Jueyan asked, her tone suddenly probing. "Do you want to be involved?"
Han Yu shook his head. "For now, I only wanted confirmation. My work isn't exploring and investigating tombs. It's investigating the corruption within the sect."
"Be careful," she warned. "Things will heat up very quickly. The tomb won't remain buried for long—and the moment it's breached, everything will change. Several of Elder Wei's faction members are making a move and intended to take part in this too.
We both will have to be wary."
The connection ended, the talisman dimming into silence once more.
Han Yu remained seated in the quiet of his pill hut, mind spinning.
So it really was true.
A tomb of a cultivator powerful enough to leave behind spirit realm remnants, possibly even artifacts of an Immortal Ascension realm expert, had been uncovered.
That wasn't just a rumor. That was a beacon—one that would draw wolves from every corner of the land.
Han Yu slowly stood up.
He looked around the hut that had become his sanctuary. The shelves of pill formulas, the sealed cauldrons, the racks of spirit herbs—his domain. But now… it might soon become a battleground.
Because if the sect was sending people again, then he would likely be next.
He had the qualifications now. Intermediate-ranked alchemist. Adept fighter. Talented cultivator. And a disciple whose rise had drawn enough attention—both admiration and envy.
The tomb might be ancient.
But for Han Yu… it would be a new beginning.
Or a bloody end.
A while later...
The air around the Twin Leaf Peak Sect had been tense for weeks, but now it turned solemn as every disciple was summoned to the Grand Martial Square.
The entire sect seemed to gather—thousands of white-robed figures, from Outer Court newcomers to Core-level elites. The plaza thrummed with hushed murmurs and speculation, though few were truly surprised.
The rumors had long since left the shadows.
This was merely the formal confirmation.
A thunderous chime echoed from the bell tower, followed by the appearance of several elders atop the dais. In the center stood Sect Master Mo Yunjian, robes swaying in the wind, expression firm and unwavering.
Behind him stood the Ten Peak Heads, flanking their master like celestial pillars, each one emanating vast and unique presences—sword intent, fire essence, spiritual resonance, and more.
Even among the higher-ranked disciples, the weight of these gathered powers made some tremble.
Sect Master Mo stepped forward, his voice booming with spiritual resonance that carried to every corner of the square:
"What many of you have heard… is true."
A hush fell across the crowd.
"An ancient tomb, likely belonging to a peak-stage Immortal Ascension Realm cultivator from the era before the great war, has been unearthed in the Marshes of the South. This tomb is not only vast and labyrinthine—it is warded, dangerous, and possibly still inhabited by formations or remnant souls."
