Chapter 246: Gunclub!
Central University 14:
The second-year student Billy received the news from the guard a few minutes earlier. He was shocked to the core. He didn't know that the university had put a travel ban on Jeremy Night.
He was shocked again to find that Jeremy Night was safe and sound. He thought that the mercenaries' actions might have exposed him.
Otherwise, the university wouldn't react this way. He was still not clear about the management's decision. He chose to find out the details first.
He feared that his name had been exposed. He wanted to confirm that this matter had nothing to do with him.
Meanwhile,
Department Head Derek and Instructor Jacob were yet to report to Dean Carolyn. They were thinking that Jeremy Night would eventually return.
As time passed, Instructor Jacob couldn't stay calm. He then called Jeremy back and found that he was with Captain Nathan.
Only then was he relaxed. Eventually, Department Head Derek allowed Jeremy Night to spend a little more time outside.
They were already cooperating with Captain Nathan, so they felt it was normal for Captain Nathan to speak with Jeremy Night.
...
Cafe:
"So, when do you want to practice?" Nathan asked.
"I would be happy if it's right away," Jeremy replied.
He had just gotten permission from Instructor Jacob, so he didn't want to waste the day.
Nathan's eyes flashed with a glint. They had yet to find any leads in this case. Clearly, Jeremy Night was targeted by someone.
According to the list, many mercenary teams failed to return to the city gate when Jeremy was attacked. He knew about the missing mercenary teams.
One of the teams had tried to kill Jeremy Night, but they were eliminated by a Tier-5 Beast, according to Jeremy Night's statement.
If he could have this kid around the police area, he could find out who was targeting him. He thought the people behind the attack could target the kid again.
"Okay. Let's leave. I'll take you to our gun club," Nathan said.
"Thank you, Captain Nathan," Jeremy said.
Then they exited the shop and went to the street. Jeremy entered the police car, and Nathan sat in the driver's seat. He then started driving toward the gun club.
About 20 minutes later,
They reached the private area. Only officials were allowed here. It's the safest place in City A. Not even the people of Goldcorp can come here.
Nathan parked the car in front of the building. It was the gun club building. Jeremy then stepped out of the car and started to look around.
He found that the place was enclosed on all four sides. The compound walls stretched over 10 feet high.
Jeremy sighed inwardly. There was no noise whatsoever. Hardly anyone could be seen walking on the street. The place was calm and serene.
"Jeremy, let's go inside," Nathan said.
Hearing that, he turned around and started following him from behind. Then they walked into the building.
What greeted them was a wide shooting range. With proper setups and safety arrangements, there were even noise-cancellation walls. No one could hear anything from outside.
Captain Nathan walked to the office. He then saw two staff members working there—one male and one female. They were police trainees. They had been posted here to look after the gun club.
Nathan looked at the staff before saying, "His name is Jeremy Night. He is a first-year student at Central University. He will be learning about firearms for a week."
Hearing that, both staff members were shocked. They hadn't seen anyone coming from the university before, as firearms skills were less sought after.
"Jessy, you can teach him how to use a handgun first, and then you can teach him other long-range weapons," Nathan instructed the female staff member.
Jessy, the brown-haired middle-aged woman, nodded her head.
Nathan then turned towards the male staff member. His name was Max. He was a short-haired middle-aged man.
"Max, I want you to monitor the gun club while the kid is training here. If anyone comes here during his training, you should inform me right away," Nathan said.
"Okay, Captain," Max replied.
He could tell that the identity of the young man was unusual. No one was allowed to come to their private area, especially civilians.
Since a university student had come for the first time, he thought that the kid's identity was extraordinary.
On the other hand, Jeremy walked around before coming to Captain Nathan.
"Jeremy Night, the two staff will help you learn about firearms. They are Max and Jessy. If I have any free time, I'll come by to see you."
"You don't have to wait for me here. I'll inform the guards. From tomorrow onwards, you can come here on your own," Nathan said to Jeremy.
Hearing that, Jeremy thanked him again. It was a great opportunity to learn new skills. Captain Nathan then left the place.
He was going to continue his investigation.
Jeremy then found the middle-aged woman guiding him to the shooting range. When they arrived, she started to explain to him about the different types of firearms.
A few minutes later,
She picked up a handgun and started to teach him about it. Jeremy's eyes turned serious. He couldn't be complacent, so he started to observe.
Like a sponge, he was absorbing the knowledge. Some of the information he had learned online, while some of it was new.
Finally, when she finished her explanation, she took a deep look at him.
Jessy said, "I don't know why you wanted to learn how to use firearms. It can only help you fight against lower-tier beasts."
"Since Captain Nathan has given me a task, I'll teach you now how to use it. But I won't be explaining the same thing again. It's up to you to grasp the knowledge," she added.
"Thank you," Jeremy replied.
Jessy nodded her head before picking up the handgun. Next, she raised her right hand and aimed at the shooting target. Her posture was correct, as if she had done it many times before.
Jeremy began to notice every detail.
Shortly afterwards,
Bang!
Jessy fired the shot at the target. A fast projectile was released from the handgun. It cut through the air before hitting the target over 10 meters away.
Gasp!
A low exclamation escaped from Jeremy's mouth because he saw her aim was accurate. The bullet pierced through the center black spot.
Jeremy thought if the small firearm had the power of the energy guns used by the Human Alliance, then people who were not Beast Tamers could learn to protect themselves.
"How is it?" Jessy asked.
"It was amazing," Jeremy didn't shy away from showing appreciation.
A hint of approval flashed in Jessy's eyes. She thought this kid was not arrogant, which improved her mood.
She then said, "First, let me teach you breath control. Once you can do it, then I'll teach you about the stance."
Hearing that, Jeremy replied, "Okay."
"I don't know how much you can learn in one week, but one week is not enough. There is breath control, stance, sliding, sights, and trigger control. Finally, you have to be distraction-free from the recoil effect."
"So it might take more than one week. Since you have only got one week's permission, try to learn it fast," Jessy said, sharing her honest opinion.
Hearing that, Jeremy was stunned. It was not that he didn't know about these concepts, but he was relying on his Supreme Combat Body Talent.
He could easily learn these things with the help of his talent, but he didn't think it was necessary to tell her.
"Okay, let's start with breath control," Jessy said.
Jeremy nodded to her. She then started to explain breath control, showing how to exhale and release the breath at the right time.
Meanwhile,
Max was monitoring the gun club. Even though it felt like a small task, he was taking it seriously. As a police trainee, it was already rare for anyone to get attention from a senior officer.
So Max didn't want to lose the chance. He started to pay attention to his surroundings.
Time passed,
Jeremy began to practice breath control as well. Thanks to his talent, he was able to learn and apply it quickly.
Jessy was shocked. She thought the kid would take a day or two to learn, but she didn't expect him to grasp it in just a few minutes.
Time passed
Seeing the kid's steady inhale and exhale, she was even more shocked. More importantly, she felt he was able to do the right pause at the end.
His grip on the handgun handle was firm from beginning to end. She was really impressed.
She thought if he continued to learn at this speed, then he could gain some expertise in using the handgun. But she didn't want to tell him.
She continued to maintain a stern attitude.
Shortly afterward,
She started to teach him about the slides, sights, and trigger control. It didn't take long for Jeremy Night to learn every concept, including aiming and withstanding the recoil effect.
Before he could practice with the live firearm, it was already nighttime, so he stopped and decided to come back the next day.
