Fire in Cartago:
Two deceased individuals were found in the aftermath of a fire in Oreamuno
The Fire Department responded to a house fire in the Oreamuno area at 3:33 a.m., where two deceased persons were discovered: a man and a woman.
Early this Friday, March 13th, the Cartago Emergency Dispatch Center received a call from a neighbor of the deceased reporting a smell of "hellish smoke" coming from the house to their left.
Upon arrival, the fire unit found the house almost completely consumed by flames; however, they were quickly extinguished as previously mentioned. Unfortunately, the two residents of this house could not be saved. Additionally, neighbors have mentioned that the smell of burnt flesh lingered for several hours.
The man was identified as Carlos Mora Rodríguez, 24 years old; however, the identity of the woman is still being investigated by authorities. According to the Fire Department report, most of the woman's body, except for bone fragments and her right foot, was completely consumed by the fire. The area around the victim was covered in greasy soot, and it is believed that the fire started when the woman's clothing caught fire from an external ignition source. Her skin was burned by this initial fire and began to melt her body fat, absorbed by the clothing, acting like a candle wick, continuously fueling the fire. The question remains: what started the fire in the first place?
