Chapter 7: Let's begin
Shortly after Luka ended his conversation, Myra woke up from her short nap with blurry vision due to a slight shift of Luka's position. From her point of view she could only see the busy looking Luka who stressed himself with work while she slept peacefully on his lap. On the other hand, Luka was wondering what to have for breakfast. "A break should do us good, let's head for breakfast,"she said trying to get him of his phone just to the shock of Luka responding with the locatin of small breakfast joint a block away that was fifteen minutes from the hospital. Her dazed yet astonished appearance made confused Luka as he thought she was still asleep. Having the same idea in mind they both agreed and soon left the hospital after consulting the exact period of the surgery's procedure that an approximate of four hours. Arriving at the place, they took a seat opposite to each other, their gazes else where, as if trying to pretend that they aren't acquainted. Luka signalled for her to order as he went out to answer a phone call.
"Hello?" Luka asked the unknown number.
"Me again and hers your first riddle,a place filled with wisdom, with a holy man and around your birth place young Dalton," the man answered instantly. ending the call
Luka, although stunned by the call just shrugged it off and before returning to his seat he sent the callers address in for analysis. He returned to see Myra ending the order as the waiter left. "You willing to talk now," Myra said as she pulled out her phone. "If by chance you mean clear my name, the gladly," Luka responded, taking his seat. Myra after confirming some information, placed down her phone and crossed her arms, ready to listen.
"Thought you'd said you ain't gonna ask," Luka said looking somehow disappointed. Myra simply asked if he was gonna talk on not adding that she's known him for years and sympathy isn't her type of business. Realizing that his trick didn't work he began his part of the story. According to his claims of just getting drank and entering a hotel room and claiming he woke up in the morning to find Aria in his bed without any recollection of anything. Myra leaned on the table starring coldly into his eyes. "The fact a detective lies so brasenly to a prosecutor is hilarious, don't you think?" She ended with a sigh showing how angered she is with his audacity. Luka just put the talk of as the meal arrived. " Pancakes, really?" Luka asked as Myra was served Belgium waffles. Myra smirked, only agreeing to switch meals with the truth. Luka not phased, poured maple syrup on his pancakes. "Come on, we've known each other for years, its the least u owe me," Myra said looking at him with a bite size piece of waffle on her fork. Luka annoyed simply ignored her and continued eating. Myra already given up, rolled her eyes continuing with her meal. Suddenly Luka looked up at her thanking Myra as he stood to leave. "Hey, where you going, your supposed to take it easy. Are you listening? Luka," she said leaving money on the counter and following him out. He saw him waiting for a cab and finishing a cab. " Where are you going now?" She asked not surprised as he got into a cab. He looked at her questionly as he asked if she was coming or not as he tapped to the seat next to him. Myra reluctantly entered asking for their destination as she closed the door. Luka with a grin simply said that he was going to catch his suspect in action. With that he directed the cab driver to drive to Toronto. Myra immediately complained that's it a four hour drive to Toronto. Luka simply said that the next crime is the bombing of CN tower. That seemed to be enough to shut the reluctant Myra as the cab driver sighed beginning the long drive to Toronto downtown.
Myra tapped Luka's shoulder telling him that if she has to do this then he is explaining everything at that moment. Luka sighed heavily as he vowed solemnly to never believe her when she says she doesn't want to hear about it. He began explaining the night he was in Vegas with the others and since her sister worked in the narcotics department at that time, he was partnered with her they worked together. The month long mission was later concluded after the arrest and the crew went to celebrate and being part of it he couldn't ignore it and went. He drank a little to much and approached Aria thinking it was someone else. At some point the scenerio moved from the bar to the bed and that's how. Even though he did sleep with her, Luka was sure he used protection so he didn't expect that anything would have happened and since he was later deployed to Europe he hasn't had time to even apologies as he recalled. The driver overhearing the hole story exclaimed how messed the situation was. Luka ended the entire conversation with the fact that was that.
The only question Myra had was the fact she wanted to know who he was thinking of during all that. Luka immediately ignored the question pointing out that she has work reviewing her next case.
He faced the window and covered his face feeling his face turn red realizing the person he thought of was Infront of him. Myra realized his thought but decided to ignore it as she opened her laptop to meet review some cases. "I think I've found your guy, Vance Reymond and..." she paused seeing the guy fall asleep facing the window. The driver noticed their vibe and began yapping about his experience in marriage comparing the two of them to him and his wife. Myra realized that the driver was a nice person but she secretly hoped he shut up or he'll wake Luka up.
