Chapter 40: Foundations of Future Strength
After giving it some thought, Wei Yunxi decided to accept the proposal. She was also curious to see just how much the milk fruits could enhance her physical strength.
From the way the Tribal Warrior had described it, the milk fruit only worked for young ones. Once a person reached adulthood, the effect would likely become negligible.
Without hesitation, she replied, "Alright. I agree."
Thus, the three-way resource exchange began. Wei Yunxi traded the Thousand Shadows Riding the Wind manual to Survival is the Ultimate Truth in exchange for an energy shield and several energy cores. Then the Tribal Warrior traded his milk fruits with Wei Yunxi for the energy shield and energy cores. With that, the trade was complete and everyone got what they needed.
The others in the chat group had merely been observing and didn't participate, since none of the resources offered matched their needs.
Wei Yunxi looked at the five large vine baskets filled with milk fruits stacked in her spatial inventory. Humming cheerfully, she inspected the goods one by one. Once she was sure everything was in order, she said goodbye to the group and logged off.
Her consciousness returned to her body, but she didn't immediately resume cultivation. Instead, she took a moment to sort through her recent gains and mapped out her next steps.
First, she had already reached the fifth layer of Qi Refining. That meant she could start practicing the elemental techniques recorded in the jade slip gifted by her uncle. At the very least, it would give her some means of self-defense.
Second, the milk fruit was essentially an upgraded version of the Body-Tempering Pill, but without any pill toxicity. It would strengthen her physique and help her step into the path of body cultivation, laying a solid foundation for future progress.
Third, aside from Thousand Shadows Riding the Wind, she had no techniques suited for the lightning or ice elements. She would need to exchange for those through the sect later.
Fortunately, during the Qi Refining stage, the foundational technique she was practicing—Qi Refining Method—was more than enough. It was standard across cultivators, and switching to a technique aligned with one's spiritual roots upon reaching Foundation Establishment wouldn't cause conflict. She still had time to search for a better method.
Based on her understanding, the lightning spiritual root offered the strongest offense and immunity to all evils. She wanted to find a lightning-based sword technique as her main attack method. Ice, on the other hand, was excellent for wide-area attacks. An ice-based spell cultivation technique would complement the lightning sword art and make up for its weaknesses.
Fourth, she had to master at least one of the four foundational arts of cultivation. That would allow her to earn resources to support her path. Alchemy clearly suited her elemental roots, and the Feng family had already helped her lay the groundwork. She was confident she could pick it up quickly.
As for talisman crafting, it required the least initial investment, but achieving good results still demanded a lot of effort. She planned to attend a lecture at the Learning Hall to see if it was something she could pursue. It wouldn't hurt to try.
Array formation and artifact refining were skills she didn't intend to study in-depth for now, but she still wanted a basic understanding. With enough spirit stones, she could purchase ready-made formation plates and magic tools. Even so, she needed the discernment to tell quality from junk. Otherwise, she might end up wasting spirit stones.
Thinking about the unopened chests still sitting in her space, Wei Yunxi felt that reaching her goals wouldn't be too difficult after all.
She took inventory once more. The chat group in the wooden plaque was her hidden trump card. As her cultivation grew, the resources she could access through the group would also improve. She could continue using it to trade for what she needed.
There was also the silver ring from the Feng family, which could conceal her spiritual roots and help her stay under the radar. The ornamental mark on her forehead, an immortal-grade artifact, could mask her cultivation and even protect her in times of danger.
She already had two defensive artifacts on her body. For now, they were more than enough within the sect. Once she reached Foundation Establishment and went out for training, she could buy more gear.
As for the unopened chests she had received from the chat group, she didn't plan to touch them yet. She was afraid that once she saw what was inside, she might get too comfortable and lose her motivation. It was better to save them for a time of true desperation.
Wei Yunxi reviewed everything she currently had. It wasn't bad at all. At least she wasn't starting from nothing. Besides, she still had the items left behind by the Feng family and her mother. As long as nothing went wrong along the way, she was confident she could cultivate her way to the Spirit Realm.
But with Wei Yunqing, that troublemaker, constantly hovering nearby, she had to stay mentally prepared. Fortunately, she had already begun to shift the storyline. As long as she worked hard enough, she was sure she could break free from fate.
After silently cheering herself on, Wei Yunxi calmed her mind and resumed cultivation.
When she later reunited with the three other Wei sisters at the end of the day, Wei Yunting looked pleasantly surprised.
"Yunxi, you've already reached the second layer of Qi Refining?"
Her words stunned both Wei Yunyin and Wei Yunqing. None of them had expected their youngest sister to surpass them so soon.
Wei Yunyin's tone was tinged with jealousy as she said, "Yunxi, your luck is really something. You just broke through to the first layer not long ago, and now you've already hit the second."
Wei Yunqing, on the other hand, was shaken and envious. Her talent was supposed to be better, so why was her sister always right on her heels?
Wei Yunxi narrowed her almond-shaped eyes slightly and said, "Sister Yunyin, that's not fair of you to say. Ever since joining the sect, I've been using cultivation to replace sleep every night. On top of that, the spiritual energy here is abundant, and I also took a top-grade Nourishing Spirit Pill from my uncle. That's why I was able to break through so quickly.
I'm a triple spiritual root cultivator. If I want to become an alchemist, I have to raise my cultivation to the mid-stage of Qi Refining as soon as possible. Otherwise, when will I be able to refine Nourishing Spirit Pills to support everyone's cultivation?"
Wei Yunxi knew how to speak to people. Her explanation quickly dispelled any doubts. After all, she had taken a top-grade pill. If she still couldn't break through, it would be an insult to the medicine.
Her comment about refining pills for everyone was also planting the seeds for later.
Wei Yunting smiled. "Yunxi's efforts have not gone unnoticed. Her cultivation is the result of her own hard work. There's no need to be envious. Work hard yourselves and you'll catch up soon."
"You're right, Sister Yunting," Wei Yunyin said with a smile. She had already touched the threshold of the second layer and had been trying to break through these past two days. Tomorrow she would even skip lunch to focus entirely on pushing past that barrier.
Wei Yunqing silently vowed that she had to break through to the second layer soon, or she really would fall behind. That would not only be embarrassing but could hurt her chances of finding a master in the future.
When the four of them returned to their residence, each went to their own room. Except for Wei Yunxi, the other three resumed cultivation. Only she chose to lie down and sleep.
She had realized that using cultivation to replace sleep was harmful to her body's growth at her current stage. Back in the training hall, after relaxing for three hours and falling into deep sleep, she had naturally broken through to the fifth layer. The spiritual energy helped, but so did her positive state of mind.
Since then, she had decided that she must sleep at least three hours a day. Her cultivation needed to balance effort and rest. Blind pursuit of advancement would only backfire.
Now that she had reached the fifth layer, she felt it was time to settle down and consolidate her progress. She didn't plan to break through again anytime soon.
The next day, the eight members of the Wei family gathered for a rare reunion. Everyone was surprised to find that they had all made progress.
Wei Yunting had broken through to the fourth layer the night before. Wei Zonghan had already reached the fourth layer the day prior. The two of them remained the frontrunners in the family.
Spurred by Wei Yunxi's progress, Wei Zonghao had also broken through to the second layer. Wei Zongjin and Wei Zongyu were both on the verge of the same breakthrough.

In the first chapter, the Author mentioned about 4 worlds/realm:
修真界 (Xiūzhēn Jiè) - "Cultivation Realm"
仙界 (Xiān Jiè) - "Immortal Realm"
神界 (Shén Jiè) - "God Realm"
圣界 (Shèng Jiè) - "Saint Realm"
But in this chapter they suddenly mention about Spirit Realm. The original text is like this "供她修炼到灵界是绝对没问题的" that can be translated as "As long as nothing goes wrong along the way, it's absolutely sufficient for her cultivation to reach the Spirit Realm."
Of course in here I make slight adjustment in my translation. Let's back to the topic.
In that sentence the Author clearly write 灵界 (Líng Jiè) - "Spirit Realm" a new 'realm'. For now I am not sure about this realm, but I think it refer to the Weiling Realm, the upper realm of Weiyu Realm. And in my opinion the Weiyu and Weiling Realm are part of the Cultivation World.
