Stealing Luck from the Heavenly Dao's Favorite

Chapter 27: Two Brats and a Spirit Beast

"Really? This kind of grass can do that?"

It was the first time Wei Zonghao had heard of it. He hadn't learned much about spiritual plants yet.

"Of course it's true. My uncle told me before. Actually, if you refine Weiwei Grass into Concealment Pills, the effect is even better. Unfortunately, I don't know how to make pills yet, so I can only use the raw material to disguise myself."

Wei Zonghao grew interested and stepped closer. "Then show me how to recognize Weiwei Grass. I'll pick some too."

"Sure, come here. See this? Weiwei Grass is shorter and thinner than ordinary grass. It's also lighter in color. It usually grows in places with lots of water and loves hiding between rocks. If you look carefully, you'll find it."

Wei Yunxi explained everything clearly, and before long, Wei Zonghao found a stalk and pulled it out to show her.

"Yes, that's Weiwei Grass. Let's gather more. This way, we'll be a little safer tonight, and you won't have to waste your concealment talismans."

Wei Zonghao nodded. His family hadn't given him many talismans, so he had to use them sparingly.

The two moved quickly. Before a water lizard could raise its head, they had already left the stream behind and resumed their journey.

Not long after, Wei Yunting's group also arrived at the stream, and Wei Yunqing was attacked by the water lizard while fetching water. Thankfully, her reflexes weren't slow. She threw the water gourd aside and scrambled back to Wei Yunting's side.

Wei Zonghan hastily formed a seal and barely cast a fireball, forcing the lizard back into the water."Go, now!" he shouted.

The six of them had no choice but to keep moving. This time, everyone else in the group subtly pulled away from Wei Yunqing. She seemed cursed, attracting disaster even while doing something as simple as collecting water.

Wei Yunqing felt wronged. How could she have known there was a spirit beast in the stream? Why did it have to attack her, of all people? She hadn't meant to cause trouble.

While their group moved in awkward silence, things were far more relaxed on Wei Yunxi's side. She and Wei Zonghao crushed the Weiwei Grass and rubbed it on themselves. The scent of fresh greenery now clung to their bodies, masking their presence. With their disguise in place, they continued on.

"Yunxi, this Weiwei Grass really works."

"Brother Zonghao, just because it works, don't let your guard down. Its effects are still weaker than concealment talismans or pills. To spirit beasts, we'll just seem like moving plants. If they get curious, they might still chase us."

"I get it, I get it."

The chubby boy nodded quickly.

At noon, they didn't stop by the stream to rest. That was the hottest part of the day, and spirit beasts liked to play in the water around that time. They didn't want to attract trouble. Instead, they climbed a tree to rest during the heat, just like they had the night before. After a short nap to recharge, they continued on.

In the shadows, Yufeng Zhēnjūn observed silently. He felt that the two Wei children had a solid sense of judgment. Even though they'd been separated from the main group, they kept moving forward, staying alert and adapting to their environment. That little girl, especially, seemed very familiar with spiritual plants.

Later, after they descended another slope, they decided to rest in place for fifteen minutes. Just then, a shrill neigh echoed through the air.

Wei Zonghao heard it too and quickly moved to stand beside Wei Yunxi. "Yunxi, that was a spirit beast's call."

"Yeah, I heard it. Not sure how many there are or if they're heading our way."

"Let's climb that tree and check it out first."

He pointed to a tall pine tree.

Wei Yunxi nodded, and the two of them scrambled up like monkeys. From the treetop, they looked in the direction of the sound.

"Oh! It's a Red-Maned Colt. Looks like a foal. What's it doing here?"

Wei Zonghao's eyes sparkled with excitement.

Wei Yunxi shook her head. "Not sure. Looks like it's tangled in Iron Thorns."

The young colt was trapped in the thorny vines and let out desperate cries. It was probably calling for its companions.

"Yunxi, should we try to claim the Red-Maned Colt?"

Wei Zonghao looked eager.

Wei Yunxi smiled and asked, "Brother Zonghao, did you bring a Spirit Beast Pouch?"

Zonghao immediately shook his head. "Nope. That thing costs more than a storage pouch."

Wei Yunxi continued, "This area is close to Haoran Sect. Is there a chance this colt belongs to the sect as a riding beast?"

"Possibly, but it's way too small to carry a person."

Wei Yunxi rubbed her chubby chin. "It's small, sure, but I think it could carry you."

"You want to ride it back?"

Zonghao thought she was getting a little too ambitious.

Wei Yunxi nodded and smiled. "Brother Zonghao, don't you want to be the first to reach the meeting point?"

"Of course I do."

"With our tiny legs, we'll need at least three days to walk there. If we ride the colt, we could save half a day. Want to give it a shot?"

Zonghao sighed and rubbed his face. "That only works if the Red-Maned Colt agrees."

"Don't worry. We'll free it first and talk nicely. I'm sure it'll be willing to carry us."

Wei Yunxi was confident.

They lowered their heads and whispered back and forth for a while longer, just to be sure there weren't any adult Red-Maned Horses nearby. If a grown one showed up, they wouldn't be able to handle it.

"Little Sister Yunxi, looks like it's alone."

"Yeah, if it had company, it wouldn't have gotten tangled in Iron Thorns."

With the plan confirmed, they climbed down and slowly approached the trapped colt.

The Red-Maned Colt spotted them and snorted. Its big black eyes filled with confusion. These were two-legged creatures, but they were small, and they didn't smell like the others.

Seeing the colt's hesitation, Wei Yunxi waved at Zonghao. He quickly pulled out a candy from his storage pouch, a treat his mother had packed for him.

"Brother Zonghao, hurry up!"

Wei Yunxi gave him a helpless reminder as she saw him gulp.

Thankfully, she had never liked sweets, even as a child. Now that she was back in a child's body, candy didn't tempt her.

Zonghao finally tossed the candy near the colt's mouth and said gently, "Here, little one. Eat this, and you'll feel stronger."

The Red-Maned Colt tilted its head, sniffed the candy, hesitated a moment, then stretched out its tongue to scoop it up. After a couple of chews, it swallowed and licked its lips, clearly enjoying the taste.

Once Wei Yunxi saw the colt was calm, she took the dagger Zonghao handed her and began cutting away the Iron Thorns tangled around one of its hind legs.

Meanwhile, Zonghao chatted non-stop, trying to "communicate" with the colt while offering it more candy to keep it relaxed and boost its strength.

Wei Yunxi didn't cut quickly. She carefully watched the colt's reaction. If it showed any sign of irritation or resistance, she would pause to let it adjust.

After half an hour, they finally freed the Red-Maned Colt.

Zonghao rubbed his hands together and asked in a hopeful tone, "Pretty little horse, would you take us to Haoran Sect?"
