Chapter 374: Chapter 371
"Clip-clop, clip-clop…"
The carriage slowly made its way out of Pentos City. Lucas sat upright, enduring the bumps of the ride, but his mood was still quite cheerful. After all, selling two bottles of wine for the sky-high price of 1,400 gold coins far exceeded his expectations—he had originally anticipated three bottles going for just 600 gold coins.
The trip was definitely worth it. Earning over a thousand gold coins in one go, he wouldn't mind making a few more such trips. Of course, this time he had the wind at his back thanks to Amos's notes; without that, even with some hype, a bottle of wine would have fetched maybe 300 gold coins at most.
"Young master, will Mina be alright?" Nicole's eyes were full of worry as she tightly held Lucas's hands.
"Don't worry. With Mina's skills, there aren't many people who can stop her," Lucas said gently.
There were War Wolves waiting to pick her up outside the city. As long as they weren't ambushed by hundreds of knights, there wouldn't be any problem. Ordinary knights were no match for the War Wolves—just a volley of crossbow bolts could already cause significant trouble.
"Sir, someone is following us," Came No. 5's low voice from outside the carriage.
"Oh? How many people?" Lucas raised an eyebrow. Has someone set their sights on him?
"Just one," No. 5 replied in a hushed tone.
"Find an opportunity and take him out," Lucas said calmly, pondering which part of his plan had gone wrong to let someone tail him.
"Yes, sir," No. 5 replied respectfully.
"Clip-clop, clip-clop…"
The carriage continued forward. Once outside the city, the road became even bumpier. Fortunately, the port was nearby. Fifteen minutes later, the carriage came to a stop.
"Young master, we've arrived at the port," Came No. 6's voice from outside the carriage.
"Mm." Lucas nodded and pushed open the carriage door, immediately seeing No. 6 standing nearby with a lantern in hand. His blade was unsheathed, and his eyes were scanning the surroundings warily. No. 5 was nowhere to be seen—he had likely gone after the person who was following them.
"Clip-clop, clip-clop…"
Suddenly, a group of people rushed out from the darkness and surrounded the carriage. They were a dozen or so veteran soldiers stationed on the ship, part of the support team for the pickup.
"They're back?" Lucas asked calmly.
"City Lord, the War Wolves have returned," An old soldier immediately replied.
"Back to the ship," Lucas nodded and began walking toward the vessel, leaving behind one final instruction: "Clean up all the bloodstains."
"Yes, sir," The old soldier responded.
Under the lantern light just now, there had been quite a few bloody footprints on the wooden boards of the port. It seemed Mina and the War Wolves had killed quite a few people. The details needed to be taken care of properly—he had no intention of being besieged by people come morning.
"Clip-clop, clip-clop…"
Lucas held Nicole's small hand and stepped onto the ship, heading straight for the cabin. As soon as he entered, he saw Mina and the five members of the War Wolves standing there, covered in blood, grinning broadly.
"City Lord, mission accomplished," The War Wolves saluted.
"Good work," Lucas said seriously, his expression slightly tightening. "Seems like the situation was even more intense than I expected?"
"Whew…" Mina let out a breath, her voice hoarse. "Young Master, there were actually thirteen groups of knights lying in wait to backstab us. They were all hiding outside the city."
She had just left the city when she nearly didn't make it back. After narrowly avoiding an ambush from one group of knights, another immediately appeared.
Fortunately, they were all wary of each other. Plus, they weren't sure who she was or whether she had Amos's notes on her. They only knew she was the first one to leave the city—maybe they were hoping to intercept intelligence or something similar.
"Looks like most of the nobles got involved," A cold gleam flickered in Lucas's eyes.
Thankfully, Mina and the others were safe. Otherwise, he would have set fire to every ship in this port, trapping those nobles in Pentos City—and then taken his time settling accounts.
"Yes, it's as if they all knew they weren't going to get Amos's notes," Mina said with a raised brow.
"It's just... this time we took the hit and let the person who snatched Amos's notes get away with it," Lucas said, clearly displeased. Their original plan had been to intercept the person who won the bid for Amos's notes halfway.
"…" Mina's eyes flickered slightly. She glanced at the five members of the War Wolves and pursed her lips.
Lucas noticed the subtle change in her expression. He turned to Nicole and said, "Tell the kitchen to prepare a feast to reward everyone."
"Yes," Nicole replied and went to her room to change out of her dress, getting ready to cook something for Mina and the young master.
"You all go wash up. After dinner, get some rest—we're leaving Pentos City first thing in the morning," Lucas said to the five War Wolf members.
"Yes, sir," The five saluted and walked off.
Once they were gone, Lucas immediately stepped forward, reaching out to take the cat-eared girl's hand—but Mina avoided his touch.
"Young Master, I'm covered in blood," Mina shook her head repeatedly, her voice hoarse as she looked down at her bloodstained palms. "Let me wash up first."
"What's gotten into you today?" Lucas raised an eyebrow and pulled her small hand, drawing her into his arms. In a gentle voice, he said, "Did someone hit your head? What kind of nonsense are you saying?"
"I…" Mina froze for a moment, then slowly wrapped her stiff, bloodstained arms around Lucas's waist. Burying her head in his chest, she breathed in his fresh scent, and the restlessness in her heart finally began to settle.
After holding her for a while, Lucas let go of Mina and looked her over carefully. He asked with concern, "Are you hurt anywhere?"
"No," Mina shook her head. With the War Wolves covering her, all she had to do was focus on taking down enemies.
"Little tabby cat," Lucas said softly as he gazed at her smudged makeup. He gently stroked the cat-eared girl's cheek. "Your makeup's all ruined. You worked hard tonight."
"It wasn't hard," Mina tilted her head, her blue eyes curling into a soft smile. "I'm really happy I could be of help to you, Young Master."
She had always wanted to do something for Lucas. But all she really knew was how to fight—unlike Nicole, who managed household affairs, or Annie, who handled city matters… As for running an intelligence network, she was still a bit clumsy. Being able to contribute this time made her truly happy.
"Looks like you really did get knocked a little silly," Lucas raised an eyebrow and flicked the cat-eared girl's forehead with his index finger.
"I did not!" Mina covered her forehead, pouting as her cat ears twitched.
"Go wash up," Lucas said softly.
"Mm-hmm." Mina nodded and turned, walking away with a light spring in her step. But after just two steps, she suddenly stopped.
"What's wrong?" Lucas frowned slightly, concerned in his voice. "Are you feeling unwell?"
"N-no, it's not that," Mina said, patting her head. She reached into her clothes and pulled out a thick notebook, then turned around and held it up like a treasure. "I almost forgot this!" She exclaimed.
